Analysis of the quality of life after an endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy : a business intelligence approach
Primary hyperhidrosis, a disorder characterized by
an excessive sweating, has been treated by endoscopic thoracic
sympathectomy. As a consequence of the surgery, patients
improved their overall quality of life. Their day-by-day
activities are not affected, or are less affected, by this disorder,
and their emotional state verifies a significant improvement,
from a situation of shame and self-punishing to what we could
say a normal life. This paper presents the analysis of the
quality of life of 227 patients that were treated by an
endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy. The study was based on
the use of business intelligence technologies, which allowed the
storage, the analysis and the reporting of all the relevant
findings. In technological terms, this paper illustrates the
database and data analysis developments needed in a specific
healthcare application domain. For data storage, a data mart
was designed addressing the relevant attributes. For data
analysis, on-line analytical processing and data mining
technologies were used to show the evolution of the patients’
health condition and the incidence of complications or side
effects as consequence of the surgery.(undefined
Gender asymmetries in Portuguese trade unions: the case of the CGTP-IN
Gender imbalances persist throughout the world, particularly at leadership level, and equally also visible in the case of trade unions. This article focuses on CGTP-IN, the largest Portuguese trade union confederation, and sets out analysis incorporating both figures from this organisation and accounts by female members of CGTP-IN unions. Results confirm the existence of gender asymmetries, especially at the highest leadership levels. Analysis of the discourses of these women leaders reveals some awareness of the influence of gender on professional relations, placing women at a disadvantage, especially where leadership is concerned. Furthermore, four reasons driving the persistence of these gender asymmetries in trade union leadership/decision-making roles were identified: family responsibilities, gendered professional segregation, masculine trade union cultures and traditional gender stereotypes. Nevertheless, the interviewees resist to means of affirmative action such as gender quotas, and instead prefer to prioritise education and raising awareness around gender equality.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Quasinormal modes of a massive scalar field nonminimally coupled to gravity in the spacetime of Self-Dual Black Hole
In this work, we investigate the quasinormal modes for a massive scalar field
with a nonminimal coupling with gravity in the spacetime of a loop quantum
black hole, known as the Self-Dual Black Hole. In this way, we have calculated
the characteristic frequencies using the 3rd order WKB approach, where we can
verify a strong dependence with the mass of scalar field, the parameter of
nonminimal coupling with gravity, and parameters of the Loop Quantum Gravity.
From our results, we can check that the Self-Dual Black Hole is stable under
the scalar perturbations when assuming small values for the parameters. Also,
such results tell us that the quasinormal modes assume different values for the
cases where the mass of field is null and the nonminimal coupling assumes
and , i.e., a possible breaking of the conformal invariance
can be seen in the context of loop quantum black holes.Comment: 15 pages, 2 tables and 8 figures. arXiv admin note: text overlap with
