A retrospective study was carried on 35 cases with Cerebral Palsy, obtained at random, attended at the Hospital of Clinics of School Medicine of São Paulo University, Campus Ribeirão Preto, from 1982 to 1998, with the scope to verify the aetiologic factors. Among 25 patients with identified aetiology, the Congenital infections (36%) and hypoxic-schemic cerebral lesions (28%) were the major causes. These results could be used for regional strategies of deficiencies prevention. Comments about the cases without aetiology identified points to the need to consider the inherited cerebral palsies and the differential diagnosis with degenerative diseases.

This article focuses on the socialization of children and youth with respect to gender and sexuality, from a socio-anthropological perspective. The work is based on ethnographic research in a group of 5-14-year-old boys and girls in a community in Baia de Todos os Santos, Bahia, Brazil. Despite the strong influence of family and school in primary socialization, the children reproduced and re-elaborated norms and practices on appropriate gender and sexual conduct, especially among their peers, and primarily in the context of play. The research analyzes the children’s representations and practices in this socializing process, showing how gender and sexuality are socially constructed according to the contexts in which the different social interactions take place

Quick and reliable mass testing of infected people is an effective tool for the contingency of SARS-CoV-2. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Point-of-Care (POC) tests using Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP) arose as a useful diagnostic tool. LAMP tests are a robust and fast alternative to Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), and their isothermal property allows easy incorporation into POC platforms. The main drawback of using colorimetric LAMP is the reported short-term stability of the pre-mixed reagents, as well as the relatively high rate of false-positive results. Also, low-magnitude amplification can produce a subtle color change, making it difficult to discern a positive reaction. This paper presents Hilab Molecular, a portable device that uses the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence to pre-analyze colorimetric data. In addition, we established manufacturing procedures to increase the stability of colorimetric RT-LAMP tests. We show that ready-to-use reactions can be stored for up to 120 days at −20 °C. Furthermore, we validated both the Hilab Molecular device and the Hilab RT-LAMP test for SARS-CoV-2 using 581 patient samples without any purification steps. We achieved a sensitivity of 92.93% and specificity of 99.42% (samples with CT ≤ 30) when compared to RT-qPCR
