Morphological Image Processing GUI using MATLAB

    Get PDF
In this paper, we present an overview of Morphological Image Processing and edge detection using gradient based on different operators in MATLAB and developed its GUI (Graphical User Interface). This paper describes the basic technological aspects of Digital Image Processing with reference to Morphological techniques used in image processing. The word morphology commonly denotes a branch of biology that deals with the form and structure of animals and plants. Morphological processing refers to certain operations where an object is hit with a structuring element and thereby reduced to a more revealing shape [2]. Morphology is related to the shapes and digital morphology is a way to describe and analyze the shape of a digital object in image processing. Morphological image processing GUI deals with the detection of X-Ray images and its edge detection process. The complete image processing is done using MATLAB Graphical User Interface Development Environment (GUIDE)

Primary Non-Hodgkin's Malignant Lymphoma of the Sinonasal Tract

Primary non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas (NHL) of the sinonasal tract are rather uncommon entities. Morphologically and radiographically, sinonasal lymphomas are difficult to distinguish from other malignant neoplasms or non- neoplastic processes. They have a variable presentation from fulminant destructive manifestations to chronic indolent type of disease and may mimic as carcinomas and invasive fungal infection respectively. We report a case of primary NHL involving sinonasal tract in elderly female, which was clinically and radiologically mimicking as sinonasal malignany and was proven as NHL on histological examination and confirmed by immunohistochemistry. A high index of suspicion, appropriate histopathological examination and immunohistochemistry is necessary to differentiate sinonasal lymphomas from other possibilities. Failure to do so may miss the diagnosis and delay appropriate treatmen

Roads are the lifeline of the nation and hence a road must be of better quality which could make effective land access possible. According to a research conducted in Sri Lanka, if you want to rescue a village from poverty, 10-20 years of educational subsidy might not work, but if the same amount of money is funneled on road infrastructure development, you can see results within 2 years. An effective road network ensures efficient delivery of goods and transportation of people, directly contributing to the economic growth of the region. Due to economic reasons in developing nations like India, it is not possible to make paved roads especially in rural areas. These areas are mostly connected by the use of unpaved roads called as earth road or soil roads. But there are many problems associated in building these roads particularly like deterioration of the surface usually by rutting and formation of potholes, dusty in dry state and muddy during wet state. The basis of this report is to make aware about the non-traditional soil stabilization technique using Probase SH-85 Soil Hardener for hardening soil of any type and TX-85 Soil Stabilizer & Strengthener for stabilizing unstable soil and at last sealing it by spraying with Probase PB-65 Soil Sealant on soil surface. The Probase Road System ensures making soil road no longer dusty and muddy. These products are free from toxins and are environmental friendly unlike bitumen, soil-cement, lime and asphalt roads. Probase soil stabilizer will hence not only help in stabilizing the soil but will also reduce maintenance and construction cost, along with ensuring that the roads remain open and well operational in rainy season and dust-free in dry season that is to make it an all-weather road

Evaluation of functional outcome of metacarpal fractures managed by operative techniques: a hospital based study

Background: Metacarpal fractures comprise approximately 35.5% of cases in daily emergencies, mostly due to road traffic accidents, fall, and assault. The main goal of treatment is to achieve the strong bony union without any functional disability. Aim of the study was evaluation of functional outcome of metacarpal fractures managed by operative techniques and to compare the efficacy of different operative techniques. Methods: A total of 50 patients managed by various operative techniques by using k-wires, screws and plates. Functional outcome was assessed by using total active movement (TAM) and disabilities of the arm, shoulder and hand (DASH) scoring system at 6th week, 3rd month and at 6th month. Results: A total 47 fractures united and three fractures mal-united at the time of final assessment. Overall excellent and good results were achieved in 94% cases. Conclusions: Our finding suggests that open reduction and internal fixation with k-wire is most preferable method among all other operative techniques

We report here the corrected values for the step energies and the step interactions calculated in our paper for a large set of different step configurations. We have found that one parameter, i.e., the smearing parameter governing the band occupation around the Fermi level, was not converged enough to predict the step properties with sufficient accuracy. Since the surfaces are metallic a smearing function had to be used for the state occupation around the Fermi level. We used the smearing function proposed by Marzari and Vanderbilt. We found that the parameter entering this expression is a particularly sensitive one. The previous paper used a commonly chosen value of 0.02 Ry. However, we found that a much smaller value for this parameter was necessary to obtain well converged values for the surface energies. The convergence of the smearing parameter has been carefully checked. Figure presented
