(Causal Model of Personal Values and Audit Professional Skepticism in Thai Accounting Students) Abstract The objective of this research is to investigate the relationship among personal values and audit professional skepticism of Thai accounting students. Based on the questionnaire of Schwarts (1992) and Hurtt (2010), data were collected from 480 accounting students of universities in the northern region of Thailand. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and structural equation modeling. The results revealed that the personal value of benevolence had a significant positive relationship with skeptical judgment, while conformity has a significant negative relationship with skeptical judgment. Furthermore, skeptical judgment has a significant positive relationship with skeptical action. This research enables to gain better understanding of the relationship between personal value, attitude of skepticism and skeptical behavior in Thai accounting students. In addition, the results reveal the empirically consensus between academic research and professional standards of Federation of Accounting Profession. The result may provide guidelines for the development of accounting program that promote appropriate values among the accounting professionals. Keywords: personal value, audit professional skepticism, skeptical judgment, skeptical action
The Effectiveness of Hypertensive Management Programs and Social Support in Primary Health Care Systems: Preliminary Study
This quasi-experimental study used inclusion criteria obtaining samples taken from high-risk and grade
I hypertensive patients aged 35 to 59 without hypertensive complications. The two related groups comprised 36
individuals. Both were enrolled in a hypertensive management program comprising health education strategies,
respiratory training, advice on limiting salt and fat intake, exercise, group discussion with social support, telephon
counseling, and home visits. Three perception and preventive behavior questionnaires and home behavior
records collected data according to individual hypertension risk factors. The study was carried out for four months.
Descriptive statistics and a paired t-test were used.
Results showed a statistical significance difference with increased total mean scores with the following
variances:healthstatus,self-efficacyanddecreasedbarrierperception(p=.000, .008and.022, respectively). There
was noticeable improvement in exercise and stress management, but no significant change in overall preventive
behavior for hypertension (p >.05). Systolic and diastolic blood pressure and heart rate were lower (p <.001).
Waistandhipcircumferencealsodecreased(p=.002and.001). Bloodchemistryshowedastatisticallysignificant
decreaseoffingerbloodsugar, andincrease inbloodureanitrogenandcreatinine (p=.000, .00, and.004) andno
statistical significance for increase in blood cholesterol (p>.05).
Primary healthcare services should also be a strategic development, especially focus socially-supported
on mental wellbeing whichis beneficial for riskandhypertensive groups
The prevalence and risk factors of metabolic syndrome a suburban community in Pathum Thani province, Thailand
This study investigated prevalence and risk factors of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in a suburban community in
Pathum Thani province, Thailand. Anthropometric data, blood pressure, blood glucose and lipid levels were recorded from
222 participants, 35-65 years old. Identification of MetS was based on guidelines of the National Cholesterol Education
Program III. The study found the prevalence of MetS was 36.49% with no significant differences between male and female
participants. An advancing body mass index (BMI) emerged as one of the most significant risk factors. Participants with BMI
> 23 kg*m
-2 had an increased risk of MetS (OR 3.17). Furthermore, participants in the age group 55-65 years had an increased
risk of MetS (OR 2.28). Lack of exercise and high waist to height ratio were also important risk factors (OR 2.38 and 3.37,
respectively). Therefore, increased physical activity or exercise and weight control are advised to reduce the prevalence of
MetS
Increasing walking steps daily can reduce blood pressure and diabetes in overweight participants
Effects of mindfulness-based health education practice on health behaviors and quality of life among hypertensive patients
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of mindfulness practice on health behaviors and quality of life (QOL) among hypertensive patients.
Design/methodology/approach
A quasi-experimental research was designed by before, after and a follow-up phase (i.e. on the 0th, 6th and 12th weeks). Two primary health care units (PCU) were selected as control and experiment groups. Samples included patients 35–59 years old who had been diagnosed with stage I hypertension. Both groups received treatment according to standard hypertension guidelines. The experimental group was added as a drill for the purpose of a mindfulness-based health education (MBHE) practice that would emphasize behavior skills (in diet, exercise and mental function) and instill a feeling of adaptation to everyday life.
Findings
The total mean score of the prevention and promotional hypertension behaviors (PPHB), QOL, perceived in mindfulness (MF) and self-efficacy (SE) in the experiment group showed a significant statistical difference when compared to the control group in the 6th week in PPHB and SE (p<0.001), QOL and MF (p=0.001). Similar results were found in the 12th week in PPHB, QOL, SE (p<0.001) and MF (p=0.023), respectively.
Research limitations/implications
However, finished implementation in experiment group, during the follow-up phase on the 12th week, ten participants in the control group were excluded (Figure 1). It may be no active intervention or as usual in the control group. Thus, the authors controlled missing data using intention-to-treat analysis comparison and the data distribution was successfully tested by a normality plot before the use of statistical data. Based on the results of this study, the following recommendations can be made: patients should practice in mindfulness in lifestyle modification continued for intensive skill practice over the long term in order to promote sustainability in behavior and in QOL.
Practical implications
Mindfulness trainer should drill and faith in the value of mindfulness corporation owner with patients learning all of the times; and for health practitioner, it should add MBHE for patients.
Social implications
Education institution should add mindfulness in educational programs all of graduates.
Originality/value
The mindfulness practice-based health education training should be in counterpart with modern medicine in order to promote sound health behaviors and an improved QOL for stage I hypertensive patients and to forestall cardiovascular and blood-pressure diseases.

Effects of occlusal conditions on masseter and temporalis muscle activity: An electromyographic evaluation
Introduction: Dental occlusion contributes to the development of temporomandibular disorder. Objective: This case control study examined the influence of different occlusal conditions on the surface electromyography (sEMG) of the superficial part of the masseter muscle (MM) and anterior part of the temporalis muscle (TA) during clenching in the maximum intercuspal position (MIP). Materials and methods: Twelve healthy subjects had their anterior, right posterior, or left posterior teeth added by composite resin to generate the bilateral posterior, unilateral left, or unilateral right posterior tooth losses, respectively. Muscle activity in the resting stage, MM’s and TA’s maximum voluntary clenching (MVC; µV) in MIP, each muscle activity’s symmetry (%), and ipsilateral MM and TA synergy (%) were measured by sEMG. All parameters were analyzed by SPSS version 23.0, and the significance level was set at p < 0.05. Results: The MM’s and TA’s sEMG activity at the resting stage significantly differed from those at the other occlusal conditions (p < 0.05). Both muscles’ MVC were highest at the MIP during clenching but lowest during anterior clenching. During unilateral posterior clenching, such MVC was higher at the occluding than at the non-occluding sides. The TA’s symmetry during clenching at the anterior and unilateral posterior teeth was lower than that at the MIP during clenching. No significant difference was seen in the ipsilateral MM and TA synergy. Conclusion: Different occlusal conditions influenced the MM’s and TA’s sEMG activity. Each masticatory muscle responded differently to the same occlusal conditions
Epoxy Resin Surface Functionalization Using Atmospheric Pressure Plasma Jet Treatment
Atmospheric pressure plasma jet (APPJ) of N2 has been applied to promote adhesion between the epoxy resin post and composite core material due to the chemical active functional groups created. The APPJ was proved to be able to improve adhesive ability of the epoxy resin through the polar groups such as carbonyl group on its surface revealed by decreasing contact angle. The jet was generated from N2/Ar and N2/He gas mixture with ratio as low as 0.40–0.44 vol %, respectively. The optical emission spectrometry showed that the active species which could react with the substrate surface are nitrogen molecules and nitrogen molecules ion. The radial distribution functions (RDFs) calculations indicated that the most probable position of nitrogen active species reacting on the epoxy surface is at hydroxyl group with hydrogen bonding distance less than 35 nm.
