An entirely analytical cosmological model
The purpose of the present study is to show that in a particular cosmological
model, with an affine equation of state, one can obtain, besides the background
given by the scale factor, Hubble and deceleration parameters, a representation
in terms of scalar fields and, more important, explicit mathematical
expressions for the density contrast and the power spectrum. Although the model
so obtained is not realistic, it reproduces features observed in some previous
numerical studies and, therefore, it may be useful in the testing of numerical

Some integrals ocurring in a topology change problem
In a paper presented a few years ago, De Lorenci et al. showed, in the
context of canonical quantum cosmology, a model which allowed space topology
changes (Phys. Rev. D 56, 3329 (1997)). The purpose of this present work is to
go a step further in that model, by performing some calculations only estimated
there for several compact manifolds of constant negative curvature, such as the

Background Thermal Contributions in Testing the Unruh Effect
We consider inertial and accelerated Unruh-DeWitt detectors moving in a
background thermal bath and calculate their excitation rates. It is shown that
for fast moving detectors such a thermal bath does not affect substantially the
excitation probability. Our results are discussed in connection with a possible

A mathematical analysis of the evolution of perturbations in a modified Chaplygin gas model
One approach in modern cosmology consists in supposing that dark matter and
dark energy are different manifestations of a single `quartessential' fluid.
Following such idea, this work presents a study of the evolution of
perturbations of density in a flat cosmological model with a modified Chaplygin
gas acting as a single component. Our goal is to obtain properties of the model
which can be used to distinguish it from another cosmological models which have
the same solutions for the general evolution of the scale factor of the
universe, without the construction of the power spectrum. Our analytical
results, which alone can be used to uniquely characterize the specific model
studied in our work, show that the evolution of the density contrast can be
seen, at least in one particular case, as composed by a spheroidal wave
function. We also present a numerical analysis which clearly indicates as one
interesting feature of the model the appearence of peaks in the evolution of

The effect of water molecules on paraquat salts: from physicochemical properties to environmental impact in the Brazilian Cerrado
Introduction: The green revolution model that is followed in the Brazilian Cerrado is dependent on mechanization, chemical fertilization for soil dressing and correction, and the use of herbicides. Paraquat is a methyl viologen herbicide marketed as bipyridylium dichloride salts and used (in low doses) to combat weeds in their post-emergence stage. It is a non-selective pesticide that causes the peroxidation of the lipids that make up the cell membrane, and when it comes into contact with foliage, it results in the death of the plant.Methods: The effect of water molecules co-crystallized in Paraquat salt structures was analyzed in anhydrous, dihydrate, and trihydrate forms to understand those physicochemical properties in its redox activity. The frontier molecular orbitals were also carried out using DFT to obtain the chemical reactivity of the bipyridylium cation. Finally, the supramolecular arrangements were evaluated to analyze the physicochemical stability and acquire insights on superoxide anions.Results and discussion: The electronic structure indicated that the BP cation presents an acidic character due to its low ELUMO value, while the salt has a more basic character due to its high EHOMO value. For this reason, the BP ion is more susceptible to reduction during the weedsâ photosynthesis process. During the process of plant photosynthesis, PQ is reduced to form a stable radical cation. In the supramolecular arrangement, the presence of water molecules increases the number of strong H-bonds, while the weak/moderate H-bonds are stabilized. PQâs toxic effects are observed in wildlife, domesticated animals, human populations, and ecosystems. The influence of PQ on the terrestrial environment is limited because of the soil adsorption capacity associated with good agricultural practices. The current use of good agricultural practices in the Cerrado seems not to prevent the environmental impacts of herbicides like PQ because it aims for the expansion and profitability of large-scale farming based on input-intensive practices instead of sustainable agriculture processes
AGILE TGFS AND GLOBAL LIGHTNING ACTIVITY
[1] The AGILE satellite detects Terrestrial Gamma-ray Flashes (TGFs) in the 0.35â100 MeV energy range using its Mini-Calorimeter (MCAL) instrument with an average detection rate of 10 TGFs/month. Thanks to its Low Earth Orbit with only 2.5 degree of inclination, AGILE guarantees an unprecedented exposure above the equator, where both lightning activity and TGF detection peak. Here we report the comparison between the AGILE TGFs detected between March 2009 and February 2010 and full climatology lightning worldwide distribution based on satellite optical observations from LIS (Lightning Imaging Sensor) and OTD (Optical Transient Detector) instruments. This approach is complementary to the one-to-one TGF/lightning correlations by ground-based sferics measurements. Based on mono and bi-dimensional Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests, we show that the AGILE TGFs and time-averaged global lightning in the equatorial area are not drawn from the same distribution. However, we find significant regional differences in the degree of correlation as well as in the TGF/lightning ratio. In the case of south east Asia we find a 87% probability for the TGF and lightning being samples of the same distribution. This result supports the idea that the physical conditions at play in TGF generation can have strong geographical and climatological modulation. Based on the assumption that the observed range of TGF/flash ratio holds at all latitudes we can estimate a global rate of â 220 Ă· 570 TGFs per day. The observed TGF/flash geographical modulation as well as the TGF global rate estimate are in agreement with previous observations
