Entangled Coherent State Qubits in an Ion Trap
We show how entangled qubits can be encoded as entangled coherent states of
two-dimensional centre-of-mass vibrational motion for two ions in an ion trap.
The entangled qubit state is equivalent to the canonical Bell state, and we
introduce a proposal for entanglement transfer from the two vibrational modes
to the electronic states of the two ions in order for the Bell state to be
detected by resonance fluorescence shelving methods.Comment: 4 pages, No figures, accepted to PRA, minor chang
Is dark matter an extra-dimensional effect?
We investigate the possibility that the observed behavior of test particles
outside galaxies, which is usually explained by assuming the presence of dark
matter, is the result of the dynamical evolution of particles in higher
dimensional space-times. Hence, dark matter may be a direct consequence of the
presence of an extra force, generated by the presence of extra-dimensions,
which modifies the dynamic law of motion, but does not change the intrinsic
properties of the particles, like, for example, the mass (inertia). We discuss
in some detail several possible particular forms for the extra force, and the
acceleration law of the particles is derived. Therefore, the constancy of the
galactic rotation curves may be considered as an empirical evidence for the
existence of the extra dimensions.Comment: 11 pages, no figures, accepted for publication in MPLA; references

Review of Recent Searches for Rare and Forbidden Dilepton Decays of Charmed Mesons
I briefly review the results of recent searches for flavor-changing neutral
current and lepton-flavor and lepton-number violating decays of D+, Ds, and D0
mesons (and their antiparticles) into modes containing muons and electrons. The
primary focus is the results from Fermilab charm hadroproduction experiment
E791. E791 examined 24 pi,l,l and K,l,l decay modes of D+ and Ds and l+l- decay
modes of D0. Limits presented by E791 for 22 rare and forbidden dilepton decays
of D mesons were more stringent than those obtained from previous searches, or
else were the first reported.Comment: 8 pages, 1 figure, uses psfig.sty and RevTeX, submitted to Modern

Magnetic Fields in the Center of the Perseus Cluster
We present Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) observations of the nucleus of NGC
1275, the central, dominant galaxy in the Perseus cluster of galaxies. These
are the first observations to resolve the linearly polarized emission from
3C84, and from them we determine a Faraday rotation measure (RM) ranging from
6500 to 7500 rad/m^2 across the tip of the bright southern jet component. At 22
GHz some polarization is also detected from the central parsec of 3C84,
indicating the presence of even more extreme RMs that depolarize the core at
lower frequencies. The nature of the Faraday screen is most consistent with
being produced by magnetic fields associated with the optical filaments of
ionized gas in the Perseus Cluster.Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRA
Nonclassical Fields and the Nonlinear Interferometer
We demonstrate several new results for the nonlinear interferometer, which
emerge from a formalism which describes in an elegant way the output field of
the nonlinear interferometer as two-mode entangled coherent states. We clarify
the relationship between squeezing and entangled coherent states, since a weak
nonlinear evolution produces a squeezed output, while a strong nonlinear
evolution produces a two-mode, two-state entangled coherent state. In between
these two extremes exist superpositions of two-mode coherent states manifesting
varying degrees of entanglement for arbitrary values of the nonlinearity. The
cardinality of the basis set of the entangled coherent states is finite when
the ratio is rational, where is the nonlinear strength. We
also show that entangled coherent states can be produced from product coherent
states via a nonlinear medium without the need for the interferometric
configuration. This provides an important experimental simplification in the
process of creating entangled coherent states.Comment: 21 pages, 2 figure
Unified entropy, entanglement measures and monogamy of multi-party entanglement
We show that restricted shareability of multi-qubit entanglement can be fully
characterized by unified- entropy. We provide a two-parameter class of
bipartite entanglement measures, namely unified- entanglement with its
analytic formula in two-qubit systems for , and
. Using unified- entanglement, we establish a broad class of
the monogamy inequalities of multi-qubit entanglement for , and .Comment: 17 pages, 1 figur
