Existential Loneliness and end-of-life care: A Systematic Review

Contains fulltext : 88662.pdf (publisher's version ) (Closed access)Patients with a life-threatening illness can be confronted with various types of loneliness, one of which is existential loneliness (EL). Since the experience of EL is extremely disruptive, the issue of EL is relevant for the practice of end-of-life care. Still, the literature on EL has generated little discussion and empirical substantiation and has never been systematically reviewed. In order to systematically review the literature, we (1) identified the existential loneliness literature; (2) established an organising framework for the review; (3) conducted a conceptual analysis of existential loneliness; and (4) discussed its relevance for end-of-life care. We found that the EL concept is profoundly unclear. Distinguishing between three dimensions of EL-as a condition, as an experience, and as a process of inner growth-leads to some conceptual clarification. Analysis of these dimensions on the basis of their respective key notions-everpresent, feeling, defence; death, awareness, difficult communication; and inner growth, giving meaning, authenticity-further clarifies the concept. Although none of the key notions are unambiguous, they may function as a starting point for the development of care strategies on EL at the end of life.1 april 201

The OpenMolcas Web: A Community-Driven Approach to Advancing Computational Chemistry

    Get PDF
The developments of the open-source OpenMolcas chemistry software environment since spring 2020 are described, with a focus on novel functionalities accessible in the stable branch of the package or via interfaces with other packages. These developments span a wide range of topics in computational chemistry and are presented in thematic sections: electronic structure theory, electronic spectroscopy simulations, analytic gradients and molecular structure optimizations, ab initio molecular dynamics, and other new features. This report offers an overview of the chemical phenomena and processes OpenMolcas can address, while showing that OpenMolcas is an attractive platform for state-of-the-art atomistic computer simulations

The public health school was instituted on March 1st, 1963. The author sketches statutes and administrative organisation, laboratory facilities and teaching activities. At present the school offers a degree of hygiene, a bachelor's degree in hospital sciences, a course in statistics for medicine and epidemiology, a special degree in occupational medicine, complementary teaching in radiological protection, a complementary course for school physicians, a special bachelor's degree in public health and a doctorate in public health. Future projects are announced.SCOPUS: NotDefined.jinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe

Étude sur la consommation de boissons alcoolisées dans un échantillon d'écoliers et étudiants de la ville de Bruxelles

The increasing consumption of alcoholic beverages, and beer in particular, and the early age at which it starts, was revealed by an inquiry carried out on 3,000 pupils of secondary and technical schools of the city of Brussels. A definite relation was established between tobacco consumption and the consumption of alcoholic drinks. A preventive campaign should be undertaken with boys and girls under the age of 11.SCOPUS: ar.jinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe

Violence et agressivite chez les adolescents et les jeunes adultes. Revue critique de la litterature recente

A highly topical subject, violence, its consequences as well as its causes, deserve more attention on behalf of the public health authorities. On the one hand, nowadays, the concepts in this field tend to become more global than before; however, on the other hand the epidemiological, etiological and therapeutic approaches benefit also from considering more limited behavior categories and age groups. In this review of the international litereture, the authors focus their attention on intentional (excluding accidents) and interpersonal (excluding self-destructive behavior) violence. They consider by priority adolescents (10 to 19) and young adults (15 to 24). After a general introduction to the theme and the presentation of the relevant concepts and definitions, the authors, as a complement to their earlier publication on violence, develop epidemiological aspects concerning mortality, morbidity and the sources of information about these two topics. Their view is partly a critical one, including considerations on risk factors and risk predictors. The etiological aspects are developed along three axes: biomedical components, mainly of neuro-psychiatric and neurological nature; family violence; the broader social environment. The following part is devoted to care and prevention. In the discussion, several of the main issues considered in the conceptual, epidemiological, etiological as well as curative and preventive approaches are brought up again, with a perspective on presenting new proposals for further consideration and developments as well as on broadening the initial debate of the introduction.SCOPUS: re.jinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe
