Scaling of the 3P0 strength in heavy meson strong decays
The phenomenological 3P0 decay model has been extensively applied to
calculate meson strong decays. The strength \gamma\ of the decay interaction is
regarded as a free flavor independent constant and is fitted to the data. We
calculate through the 3P0 model the total strong decay widths of the mesons
which belong to charmed, charmed-strange, hidden charm and hidden bottom
sectors. The wave function of the mesons involved in the strong decays are
given by a constituent quark model that describes well the meson phenomenology
from the light to the heavy quark sector. A global fit of the experimental data
shows that, contrarily to the usual wisdom, the \gamma\ depends on the reduced
mass of the quark-antiquark pair in the decaying meson. With this
scale-dependent strength \gamma, we are able to predict the decay width of
orbitally excited B mesons not included in the fit.Comment: 7 pages, 5 tables, 2 figure
Diseño de una rectena de onda completa de triple frecuencia
Modern communication systems use multifrequency or broadband antennas in order to provide multiple communication services. One of the biggest problems associated to all these systems comes from their batteries life cycle. Nowadays, great efforts are being undertaken in order to harvest energy from as many places as possible. In addition, if the two cycles of the corresponding wave could be used, it would be good in order to increase the RF-DC power conversion. This paper presents a multifrequency and full wave-rectifying antenna for microwave applicatio

Upregulation of NKG2D ligands impairs hematopoietic stem cell function in Fanconi anemia
Altres ajuts: Fondo Europeo de Desarrollo Regional (FEDER); Next Generation EU; EUROFANCOLEN); Comunidad de Madrid (AvanCell, B2017/BMD-3692); ICREA-Academia program.Fanconi anemia (FA) is the most prevalent inherited bone marrow failure (BMF) syndrome. Nevertheless, the pathophysiological mechanisms of BMF in FA have not been fully elucidated. Since FA cells are defective in DNA repair, we hypothesized that FA hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) might express DNA damage-associated stress molecules such as natural killer group 2 member D ligands (NKG2D-Ls). These ligands could then interact with the activating NKG2D receptor expressed in cytotoxic NK or CD8+ T cells, which may result in progressive HSPC depletion. Our results indeed demonstrated upregulated levels of NKG2D-Ls in cultured FA fibroblasts and T cells, and these levels were further exacerbated by mitomycin C or formaldehyde. Notably, a high proportion of BM CD34+ HSPCs from patients with FA also expressed increased levels of NKG2D-Ls, which correlated inversely with the percentage of CD34+ cells in BM. Remarkably, the reduced clonogenic potential characteristic of FA HSPCs was improved by blocking NKG2D-NKG2D-L interactions. Moreover, the in vivo blockage of these interactions in a BMF FA mouse model ameliorated the anemia in these animals. Our study demonstrates the involvement of NKG2D-NKG2D-L interactions in FA HSPC functionality, suggesting an unexpected role of the immune system in the progressive BMF that is characteristic of FA
Electron transport through monovalent atomic wires
Using a first-principles density-functional method we model electron transport through linear chains of monovalent atoms between two bulk electrodes. For noble-metal chains the transport resembles that for free electrons over a potential barrier whereas for alkali-metal chains resonance states at the chain determine the conductance. As a result, the conductance for noble-metal chains is close to one quantum of conductance, and it oscillates moderately so that an even number of chain atoms yields a higher value than an odd number. The conductance oscillations are large for alkali-metal chains and their phase is opposite to that of noble-metal chainsPeer reviewe

Generation of a High Number of Healthy Erythroid Cells from Gene-Edited Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency Patient-Specific Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells
Pyruvate kinase deficiency (PKD) is a rare erythroid metabolic disease caused by mutations in the PKLR gene. Erythrocytes from PKD patients show an energetic imbalance causing chronic non-spherocytic hemolytic anemia, as pyruvate kinase defects impair ATP production in erythrocytes. We generated PKD induced pluripotent stem cells (PKDiPSCs) from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PB-MNCs) of PKD patients by non-integrative Sendai viral vectors. PKDiPSCs were gene edited to integrate a partial codon-optimized R-type pyruvate kinase cDNA in the second intron of the PKLR gene by TALEN-mediated homologous recombination (HR). Notably, we found allele specificity of HR led by the presence of a single-nucleotide polymorphism. High numbers of erythroid cells derived from gene-edited PKDiPSCs showed correction of the energetic imbalance, providing an approach to correct metabolic erythroid diseases and demonstrating the practicality of this approach to generate the large cell numbers required for comprehensive biochemical and metabolic erythroid analyses.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
ECOS-LINCE:A high-intensity heavy-ion facility for nuclear structure and reactions
During the last years, the ECOS working group has been considering the construction of a new high-intensity accelerator of stable ion beams for the next Long-Range Plan of the nuclear physics community in Europe. The new facility (LINCE) will be a multi-user facility dedicated to ECOS science: fundamental physics, astrophysics, nuclear structure and reaction dynamics. In this paper, we summarize preliminary design studies of the low-energy part of this facility based on the use of a multi-ion superconducting linac. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR
