Remaking Selves, Repositioning Selves, or Remaking Space: An Examination of Asian American College Students\u27 Processes of Belonging

Only a few studies have examined Asian American students’ sense of belonging (Hsia, 1988; Lee & Davis, 2000; Museus & Maramba, 2010). Scholars who study Asian American college students have suggested that Asian Americans are awkwardly positioned as separate from other students of color vis-à-vis the model minority stereotype (Hsia, 1988; Lee & Davis, 2000). Furthermore, Asian Americans often are viewed as overrepresented on college campuses, yet they remain under-served by campus support programs and resources and overlooked by researchers. Many Asian Americans have gained access to higher education, but the ways in which they belong on campuses is unclear. Given their positionality, a focus on Asian American students’ experiences can provide greater insight into the complexities of college student belonging. In this article, I aim to rethink belonging—what it looks like and how students understand it—by examining how Asian American college students navigate and negotiate the campus. Wrestling With Expectations: An Examination of How Asian American College Students Negotiate Personal, Parental, and Societal Expectations

This research draws on a broader study that situates Asian American college students within larger sociohistorical and political contexts. I examined Asian American college students’ experiences and what it means to be “Asian American” in and through these experiences. Two types of expectations emerged from the data: students’ internal expectations—the expectations that they have for themselves as well as their college and postcollege experiences, and external expectations from family and society. The various ways that students negotiate internal and external expectations translate into particular understandings of freedom and possibility they carry into college. I also discuss students’ precollege racial awareness since the combined meanings of Asian American racial identity and higher education with which students enter college subsequently influence their college experiences and impacts racial identity formation during their college years

FAKTOR-FAKTOR YANG MEMPENGARUHI PERILAKU MEROKOK SISWA KELAS VII MTS TPI SILAU DUNIA KECAMATAN SILAU KAHEAN KABUPATEN SIMALUNGUN

Abstract Smoking behavior is a common phenomenon in Indonesian society. Currently smoking has penetrated into the lives of school children starting from high school, junior high school and even some elementary school children have smoked. The prevalence rate of adolescent smokers in North Sumatra Province at the age of 10-19 years is 27.28% of the total population. There are many factors that influence smoking habits among students, including the influence of the parents' environment, the influence of friends, personality factors and because of advertising. This research was conducted at MTS TPI Silau Dunia, Silau Kahean District, Simalungun Regency. This type of research is a quantitative study using a cross sectional. The population determined in this study were all seventh grade students of MTS TPI Silau Dunia. The number of available samples is 58 samples taken by purposive sampling from the population. The results of the bivariate analysis of the influence of knowledge, attitudes, parental control, and peers on smoking behavior obtained p-values of 0.002, 0.001, 0.001, and 0.002, respectively. From the results of the bivariate analysis of p value < (0.05), it can be concluded that there is an influence of knowledge, attitudes, parental control, and peers on the smoking behavior of seventh grade students of MTS TPI Silau Dunia, Silau Kahean District, Simalungun Regency. PEMBERIAN REBUSAN DAUN SIRIH MERAH TERHADAP PENYEMBUHAN LUKA PERINEUM PADA IBU NIFAS DI KLINIK BIDAN FINA SEMBIRING KECAMATAN MEDAN POLONIA

Every mother who has completed childbirth and received services that are in accordance with postpartum maternal service standards is called postpartum maternal health services. The standard that must be followed by postpartum mothers to get these services is at least 3 (three) times, ie six hours after delivery until three days later. After that, on the fourth day until the 28th day, then on the 29th day until the 42nd day after the labor period is over. So it can be interpreted that the postpartum period is the period after six hours of delivery until the 42nd day after delivery  The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of red betel leaf decoction on perineal wound healing in postpartum mothers at the Fina Sembiring Midwife Clinic, Medan Polonia District. This study used a quasi-experimental design with the Pre-Post Test Two Group Design, which was to see the difference between the intervention group and the control group. The population in this study were 10 respondents. In this study using the Independen Sample T Test. The results showed that there was a difference between before and after being given boiled betel water, namely 1,300 with Std. Deviation 1.031 with 95% CI = 817-1.783 with p value = 0.000. The conclusion of this study is that there is an effect of red betel leaf decoction on perineal wound healing in postpartum mothers at the Fina Sembiring Midwife Clinic, Medan Polonia District

ANALISIS REGRESI BERGANDA DENGAN VARIABEL DUMMY PADA FAKTOR KEJADIAN INFEKSI SALURAN PERNAFASAN AKUT REMAJA TERHADAP KONDISI FISIK RUMAH

Tujuan penelitian yaitu memprediksi dan mendeteksi faktor kejadian ISPA terhadap kondisi fisik rumah seperti ventilasi rumah, kelembapan udara, dinding rumah, lantai rumah, atap rumah, kepadatan hunian, dan pencahayaan alami. Penelitian ini sangat penting untuk dilakukan di wilayah kerja Puskesmas Berastagi dan Puskesmas Kabanjahe Kabupaten Karo sehingga diperoleh faktor yang mempengaruhi terjadinya ISPA berdasarkan kondisi fisik rumah. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan desain penelitian cross sectional. Pengambilan sampel dengan teknik non-probability sampling yaitu purposive sampling yaitu remaja awal berusia 12-15 tahun dan remaja menengah 16-18 tahun di wilayah kerja Puskesmas Berastagi dan Puskesmas Kabanjahe Kabupaten Karo sebanyak 150 orang. Analisis data menggunakan regresi berganda dengan variabel dummy, variabel dummy pada variabel independen yaitu ventilasi rumah, kelembapan udara, dan pencahayaan alami, dilakukan dengan uji t untuk mengetahui variabel yang terikat dan uji F untuk mengecek ketepatan model prediksi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan dari tujuh variabel independen dengan hasil uji t diperoleh empat variabel yang terikat yaitu ventilasi (sig.=0,003), kelembapan udara (sig.=0,009), dinding rumah (sig.=0,007) dan pencahayaan alami (sig.=0,016). Model regresi berganda yang diperoleh Y = 2,422  - 0,373 X1  - 0,338  X2 – 0,356 X3 - 0,350 X4, dengan hasil uji F (sig.=0,00) yang berarti persamaan model regresi dinyatakan baik (Good of Fit)
