A logarithmic-depth quantum carry-lookahead adder
We present an efficient addition circuit, borrowing techniques from the
classical carry-lookahead arithmetic circuit. Our quantum carry-lookahead
(QCLA) adder accepts two n-bit numbers and adds them in O(log n) depth using
O(n) ancillary qubits. We present both in-place and out-of-place versions, as
well as versions that add modulo 2^n and modulo 2^n - 1.
Previously, the linear-depth ripple-carry addition circuit has been the
method of choice. Our work reduces the cost of addition dramatically with only
a slight increase in the number of required qubits. The QCLA adder can be used
within current modular multiplication circuits to reduce substantially the
run-time of Shor's algorithm.Comment: 21 pages, 4 color figure
On Fractional Helmholtz Equations
MSC 2010: 26A33, 33E12, 33C60, 35R11In this paper we derive an analytic solution for the fractional Helmholtz equation in terms of the Mittag-Leffler function. The solutions to the fractional Poisson and the Laplace equations of the same kind are obtained, again represented by means of the Mittag-Leffler function. In all three cases the solutions are represented also in terms of Fox's H-function
Glacial cycles promote greater dispersal, which can help explain larger clutch sizes, in north temperate birds
Earth’s glacial history and patterns in the life history traits of the planet’s avifauna suggest the following interpretations of how recent geological history has affected these key characteristics of the biota: 1) Increased colonizing ability has been an important advantage of increased dispersal, and life history strategies are better categorized by dispersive colonizing ability than by their intrinsic growth rates; 2) Birds of the North Temperate Zone show a greater tendency to disperse, and they disperse farther, than tropical or south temperate birds; 3) Habitat changes associated with glacial advance and retreat selected for high dispersal ability, particularly in the North; and 4) Selection for greater dispersal throughout the unstable Pleistocene has also resulted in other well-recognized life history contrasts, especially larger clutch sizes in birds of North Temperate areas
PRODUCER ACCEPTANCE OF A NEW PEANUT MARKETING COOPERATIVE: A SURVEY OF GEORGIA PEANUT PRODUCERS
Market conduct has become an important issue for peanut farmers. Consolidation in the first buyer market, increased imports, and political uncertainty have increased peanut producers' marketing risks. The purpose of this paper was to examine demographic differences in peanut producers' perceptions of the current marketing environment as well as their attitudes towards new marketing institutions. A standard t-test revealed that producers growing more than 250 acres of peanuts, irrigating at least 50 percent of their peanuts, and producers located in Southwest Georgia were statistically more dissatisfied with the current marketing environment and significantly more receptive to forming a new generation peanut cooperative.Agribusiness, Crop Production/Industries,
A NEW GENERATION PEANUT COOPERATIVE IN GEORGIA: A BENEFIT-COST ANALYSIS
A survey of Georgia peanut producers revealed that the Southwest corner of Georgia could be targeted for a new generation peanut cooperative (FS 01-07). The objective of this study was to examine the feasibility of this option. Preliminary results revealed that this might be an economically feasible solution to peanut producers' marketing problems.
