Observational consequences of an interacting multiverse

    Get PDF
The observability of the multiverse is at the very root of its physical significance as a scientific proposal. In this conference we present, within the third quantization formalism, an interacting scheme between the wave functions of different universes and analyze the effects of some particular values of the coupling function. One of the main consequences of the interaction between universes can be the appearance of a pre-inflationary stage in the evolution of the universes that might leave observable consequences in the properties of the CMB.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures. I-V characteristics of in-plane and out-of-plane strained edge-hydrogenated armchair graphene nanoribbons

The effects of tensile strain on the current-voltage (I-V) characteristics of hydrogenated-edge armchair graphene nanoribbons (HAGNRs) are investigated by using DFT theory. The strain is introduced in two different ways related to the two types of systems studied in this work: in-plane strained systems (A), and out-of-plane strained systems due to bending (B). These two kinds of strain lead to make a distinction among three cases: in-plane strained systems with strained electrodes (A1) and with unstrained electrodes (A2), and out-of-plane homogeneously strained systems with unstrained, fixed electrodes (B). The systematic simulations to calculate the electronic transmission between two electrodes were focused on systems of 8 and 11 dimers in width. The results show that the differences between cases A2 and B are negligible, even though the strain mechanisms are different: in the plane case, the strain is uniaxial along its length, while in the bent case the strain is caused by the arc deformation. Based on the study, a new type of NEMS-solid state switching device is proposed.Comment: 22 pages, 7 figure

Dynamic Discrete Choice and Dynamic Treatment Effects

    Get PDF
This paper considers semiparametric identification of structural dynamic discrete choice models and models for dynamic treatment effects. Time to treatment and counterfactual outcomes associated with treatment times are jointly analyzed. We examine the implicit assumptions of the dynamic treatment model using the structural model as a benchmark. For the structural model we show the gains from using cross equation restrictions connecting choices to associated measurements and outcomes. In the dynamic discrete choice model, we identify both subjective and objective outcomes, distinguishing ex post and ex ante outcomes. We show how to identify agent information sets.

Solvability of the Dirichlet, Neumann and the regularity problems for parabolic equations with H\"older continuous coefficients

We establish the L2L^2-solvability of Dirichlet, Neumann and regularity problems for divergence-form heat (or diffusion) equations with H\"older-continuous diffusion coefficients, on bounded Lipschitz domains in Rn\mathbb{R}^n. This is achieved through the demonstration of invertibility of the relevant layer-potentials which is in turn based on Fredholm theory and a new systematic approach which yields suitable parabolic Rellich-type estimates

Transference of local to global L2L^2 maximal estimates for dispersive partial differential equations

In this paper we give an elementary proof for transference of local to global maximal estimates for dispersive PDEs. This is done by transferring local L2L^2 estimates for certain oscillatory integrals with rough phase functions, to the corresponding global estimates. The elementary feature of our approach is that it entirely avoids the use of the wave packet techniques which are quite common in this context, and instead is based on scalings and classical oscillatory integral estimates.Comment: 10 page
