Engaging consumers with environmental sustainability initiatives : consumer global-local identity and global brand messaging

Environmental sustainability is a common practice of global brands, with 90% of the top 100 Interbrand global brands making statements about environmental efforts on their websites. In this research, the authors explore how a consumer’s global–local identity can affect consumer engagement with a global brand’s environmental sustainability initiative. Specifically, they examine consumer engagement in response to environmental messaging based on regulatory focus, spatial construal, and temporal construal. They theorize and find, across six experimental studies, that consumers with a strong global identity are more engaged with environmental sustainability initiatives when messaging includes frames congruent with their global identity, specifically promotion frames coupled with distant spatial frames and with proximal temporal frames. For consumers with a local identity, these regulatory and construal messaging frames do not impact consumer engagement with environmental sustainability initiatives. Consumer environmental mindset mediates the effect of global–local identity on consumer engagement with environmental sustainability initiatives when such congruent frames are used, and consumer eagerness to act provides additional process explanation for the asymmetric spatial (distant) and temporal (proximal) construal effects. The findings have significant implications for the design of global brand and environmental policy messaging, particularly for consumers with a strong global identity.Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University and School of Business – Camden, Rutgers University.https://journals.sagepub.com/home/MRJhj2023Marketing Managemen

Grice’s Theory of Implicature in the Philosophy of the Cosmos

The article is devoted to the problem of communication between the earthly and unearthly mind. The authors contrasted Grice’s theory of implicature with the Philosophy of the Cosmos. As a result, it has been found that the use of Grice’s theory of implication at the scale of space exploration changes the meanings of the theory of implicature significantly. The opposition between Grice’s theory of implicature and the Philosophy of the Cosmos updates the question “How acceptable are the similarities of the histories of cosmic civilizations at admissibility of similarity of the key phases of the physical, chemical, biological, and neurobiological evolution?” The study has shown that in the scope of space exploration, the meanings of the key term “the history of the cosmic civilization” are changing, in the question posed. They are formalized. The formalization of the term “history of the cosmic civilization” means the concentration of information in it, which is limited by the stages of neuroevolution and its external manifestations — “techne” (in the initial, antique senses). Based on the results obtained, the authors examined Grice’s four maxims in space exploration and found their weak practical effect. It was proved that the basic Cooperative Principle, which was complemented by the Q and R Principles of Horn, effectively manifested itself in communication between space civilizations. The authors have concluded that 1) Grice’s theory of implicature confirms the truth of the Philosophy of the Cosmos; 2) the main provisions of the theory of implicature are not refuted, however, they are specifie

AbstractIn the article, authors study the trend in the development of research in economics and management within the application of natural science and engineering methods. It is found that the most widely used natural science and engineering methods, when solving researching and applied tasks, are related to the following groups: econophysics, thermodynamics, informational value theory, economic genetics, cenoses theory methods and also methods based on chemical kinetics and stoichiometry approaches. It is defined that the number of publications related to the use of each group methods increases due to the activity of authors founded the scientific school and their disciples, then it stabilizes or slows down, after, in case of concept efficiency (which is a base for the research) the number of publications increases again but now due to the application of the concept in different scientific and applied fields
