Traditional Kinulung Craft Weaving of the Dusun Tindal of Kota Belud, Sabah
Arts and cultural heritage is a potent reflection of the identity of a community. The art of traditional handicraft weaving in any society is dependent on the resources available in his environment and the needs of the particular community. The Dusun Tindal of Kota Belud is rich in weaving craft traditions with kinulung as one of its distinctive products. Kinulung is unique with its own specific purpose and simple design, and has been able to withstand modernisation and change. However, the factors of adaptation, environmental change, and modern technological transformation could pose as threats to the traditional and heritage elements in the production of the kinulung. This study is important as a platform for the promotion of continuity and resilience of the Dusun Tindal heritage. Kinulung documentaton will clarify various aspects of the design and purpose elements of this traditional craft. The study focuses on the design and meaning presented in the kinulung weaving tradition as an object of culture in the community. Material for this study was derived from field work through observations, interviews and notations. The findings of the study indicate that the design and motif of the kinulung reflect the cultural values and local knowledge of the Dusun Tindal

The practice of showcasing their traditional costume during festivals and ceremonies reflect the Dusun Tindal community’s commitment towards preserving their culture and heritage. This study explores the culture related to the designs of Dusun Tindal traditional costumes with specific focus on the community residing at the id Nuluhon (hill land area), a village located close to the foothill of Mount Kinabalu. Strategi Pengurusan Produk Kraf Tempatan Etnik Dusun Tindal di Sabah
Penulisan tesis ini memperlihatkan satu penyelidikan tentang strategi pengurusan warisan produk kraf tempatan yang dihasilkan oleh etnik Dusun Tindal di Kota Belud, Sabah. Warisan kraf tangan yang terdapat di Sabah mempunyai keunikan reka bentuk dan motif yang menampilkan nilai keindahan yang amat menarik untuk diselidik. Fokus penyelidikan kraf tangan terbahagi kepada tiga jenis, iaitu kraf sulaman pakaian tradisional, kraf anyaman bambu dan kraf tembikar tradisional. Kaedah penulisan merangkumi analisis strategi pengurusan mengenai warisan kraf tangan etnik Dusun Tindal. Analisis strategi pengurusan menggunakan pendekatan teori oleh Jofre, iaitu strategi perancangan yang bersesuaian dengan pengurusan dalam industri kraf. Strategi perancangan melibatkan perbincangan tentang analisis isu dan masalah kraf tangan, analisis matlamat kraf tangan, analisis objektif jangka pendek dan jangka panjang kraf tangan dan analisis strategi untuk menangani isu dan masalah kraf tangan. Terdapat empat strategi yang telah dibincangkan, iaitu pelan strategi, strategi penghasilan, strategi pemasaran dan strategi inovasi. Analisis strategi pengurusan kraf tangan diberikan tumpuan sebagai satu cadangan baharu khususnya bagaimana sistem pengurusan yang sistematik dapat diwujudkan dalam membantu perkembangan kraf tangan dan budaya etnik Dusun Tindal. Selain itu, kaedah pembuatan kraf tangan seperti bahan dan proses penghasilan, reka bentuk dan motif kraf tangan serta interpetasi konsep dan falsafah mendasari data penting dalam strategi pengurusan. Analisis ini penting sebagai ilmu pengetahuan baharu oleh generasi muda etnik Dusun Tindal agar mereka mengetahui kearifan dan nilai keindahan seni ciptaan yang diwarisi oleh nenek moyang mereka. Pengetahuan ini boleh ditanamkan dalam jati diri etnik Dusun Tindal untuk terus mewarisi penghasilan kraf tangan dan budaya hidup yang ditonjolkan melalui makna dan falsafah penghasilan kraf tersebut. Oleh itu, penyelidikan ini penting dalam perkongsian ilmu mengenai pengurusan, kearifan tempatan dan hala tuju produk kraf tempatan dalam industri perniagaan. Kaedah yang digunakan adalah eksploratori penyelidikan dan menggunakan kaedah kerja lapangan melalui pemerhatian, temu bual dan catatan untuk mengumpul data dan maklumat penyelidikan. Secara kesimpulannya, penyelidikan ini akan menghasilkan sistem pengurusan yang sistematik dalam membantu perkembangan teknik pemasaran produk kraf tangan etnik Dusun Tindal yang patut dikekalkan serta menjadi rujukan ilmiah yang berguna kepada masyarakat dan negara.

Sinipak Costume Of The Dusun Tindal Women Folk Of Sabah
The sinipak traditional costumery is a centuriesold
heritage inherited by the Dusun Tindal ethnic
community located mainly in the flatlands of
Kampung Bangkahak, Kampung Tempasuk and
Kampung Piasau in the Kota Belud district of
Sabah, Malaysia. The designs and accessories
exhibited in the sinipak costume of the Dusun
Tindal womenfolk are representative of natural
materials and elements integrated with human
creativity, and are traditionally perceived as
symbols of wealth and social status within the
