Kinetic theory for dilute cohesive granular gases with a square well potential
We develop the kinetic theory of dilute cohesive granular gases in which the
attractive part is described by a square well potential. We derive the
hydrodynamic equations from the kinetic theory with the microscopic expressions
for the dissipation rate and the transport coefficients. We check the validity
of our theory by performing the direct simulation Monte Carlo.Comment: 22 pages, 11 figure
A Three-Dimensional FRET Analysis to Construct an Atomic Model of the Actin–Tropomyosin–Troponin Core Domain Complex on a Muscle Thin Filament
It is essential to knowthe detailed structure of the thin filament to understand
the regulation mechanism of striated muscle contraction. Fluorescence
resonance energy transfer (FRET) was used to construct an atomic model of
the actin–tropomyosin (Tm)–troponin (Tn) core domain complex. We
generated single-cysteine mutants in the 167–195 region of Tm and in TnC,
TnI, and the β-TnT 25-kDa fragment, and each was attached with an energy
donor probe. An energy acceptor probe was located at actin Gln41, actin
Cys374, or the actin nucleotide-binding site. From these donor–acceptor pairs,
FRET efficiencies were determined with and without Ca2+. Using the atomic
coordinates for F-actin, Tm, and the Tn core domain, we searched all possible
arrangements for Tm or the Tn core domain on F-actin to calculate the FRET
efficiency for each donor–acceptor pair in each arrangement. By minimizing
the squared sum of deviations for the calculated FRET efficiencies from the
observed FRET efficiencies, we determined the location of Tm segment 167–
195 and the Tn core domain on F-actin with andwithout Ca2+. The bulk of the
Tn core domain is located near actin subdomains 3 and 4. The central helix of
TnC is nearly perpendicular to the F-actin axis, directing the N-terminal
domain of TnC toward the actin outer domain. The C-terminal region in the
I–T arm forms a four-helix-bundle structure with the Tm 175–185 region.
After Ca2+ release, the Tn core domainmoves toward the actin outer domain
and closer to the center of the F-actin axis
Reconfigurable Logic Gates Using Single-Electron Spin Transistors
We propose and numerically analyze novel reconfigurable logic gates using
"single-electron spin transistors" (SESTs), which are single-electron
transistors (SETs) with ferromagnetic electrodes and islands. The output
characteristics of a SEST depend on the relative magnetization configuration of
the ferromagnetic island with respect to the magnetization of the source and
the drain, i.e., high current drive capability in parallel magnetization and
low current drive capability in antiparallel magnetization. The summation of
multiple input signals can be achieved by directly coupling multiple input gate
electrodes to the SEST island, without using a floating gate. A Tucker-type
inverter with a variable threshold voltage, a reconfigurable AND/OR logic gate,
and a reconfigurable logic gate for all symmetric Boolean functions are
proposed and simulated using the Monte Carlo method
An attempt of dissemination of potential fishing zones prediction map of Japanese common squid in the coastal water, southwestern Hokkaido, Japan
Accurate prediction of potential fishing zones is regarded as one of the most immediate and effective approaches in operational fisheries. It helps fishermen reduce their cost on fuel and also decrease the uncertainty of their fish catches. To predict potential fishing zones of Japanese common squid, we derived fishing positions from the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) Operational Linescan System (OLS), combine with bathymetry and model-derived environmental factors from the 4D-VAR data assimilation system and fitted using habitat suitability index (HSI) model. Validations with an independent DMSP/OLS dataset showed better performance of the model in figuring out the squid aggregations than our previous model established with satellite-derived environmental data. Nighttime visible images during June and early July of 2013 derived from Day/Night band (DNB) of Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) sensor with a better resolution and quality compared to DMSP/OLS, were also applied for validation and results showed differences of fitness between actual fishing activities and predictions in Japan Sea and Tsugaru Strait
