Fine Arts in Solow Model
Applying some built-in functions of Mathematica, this note provides some graphics derived from convergent paths in "Solow Model." The main aim is to attarct other economists and introduces alternative analyzing tools but I also expect that this material helps teaching economics (programming codes are all shown in the appendix).Mathematica
Managerial Strategies of the Cotton South
Relative efficiencies of antebellum slave farms are suggested by many empirical studies. This paper considers a theoretical aspect of those results using a repeated principal-agent problem. Within its theoretical analysis, with relevance to profitability of slave farms, it will be shown that when inter-temporal punishments are necessary and when they can perform efficiently in production. Applying those theoretical results, some empirical studies on relative profitability and relative efficiencies are discussed. In the empirical study, relative efficiencies of each farm scale—free farms, task farms, and gang farms—are estimated region by region by a stochastic profit frontier model.Relative efficiency of antebellum slave farms; repeated principal-agent problem; profit maximizing contracts; stick and carrot on plantations
Military Expenditures of Dictatorial Regimes: A Strategic Theory
Unlike usual approaches to military expenditures that concentrate on foreign affairs, this paper analyzes a strategic structure for a dictatorialgovernment to plan military expenditures concenrrating on domestic affairs. Then we find two dilemmas: The dictatorial government may spend less on military equipment if they have some destructive devices and then citizens may have relatively larger disposable incomes in exchange for military oppressions; and the dictatorial government increases military expenditures as their economy grows to sap revolutionary interests. Based on these results, I also make some closing discussions.Strategic military expenditure; dictatorial government; revolutionary pressure; destructive devices; economic growth
Shipping the Good Apples Out: Another Proof with A Graphical Representation
This paper provides a proof of Alchian and Allen’s thesis—superior good is relatively more consumed in distant market—with some restrictions on the utility function. Comparing to the proof by Borcherding and Silberberg (1978), those assumptions may restrict the model in some sense but we will find the Alchian-Allen theorem is independent of the third law of Hicks (Hicks 1946, pp. 309-311). The theorem is given by natural characteristics of relative demand curves.Fixed transportation cost; quality of goods; relative demand; Alchian-Allen theorem
Hyperons in neutron stars
Using the Dirac-Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approach, the properties of
neutron-star matter including hyperons are investigated. In the calculation, we
consider both time and space components of the vector self-energies of baryons
as well as the scalar ones. Furthermore, the effect of negative-energy states
of baryons is partly taken into account. We obtain the maximum neutron-star
mass of , which is consistent with the recently observed,
massive neutron stars. We discuss a universal, repulsive three-body force for
hyperons in matter.Comment: 13 pages, 3 figures, 2 tables. arXiv admin note: text overlap with

Equation of state for neutron star matter with NJL model and Dirac-Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approximation
As the interior density of a neutron star can become very high, it has been
expected and discussed that quark matter may exist inside it. To describe the
transition from hadron to quark phases (and vice versa), there are mainly two
methods; one is the first-order phase transition, and the other is the
crossover phenomenon. In the present study, using the flavor-SU (3) NJL model
with the vector coupling interaction, we have calculated the equation of state
for the quark phase at high density. Furthermore, for the hadron phase at low
density, we have used two kinds of the equations of state; one is a relatively
soft one by the QHD model, and the other is a stiff one calculated with
relativistic Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approximation. Using those equations of
state for the two phases, we have investigated the influence of various choices
of parameters concerning the crossover region on the mass and radius of a
neutron star.Comment: 3 pages, 2 figures, conference proceedings: NIC Symposium, 19-24 June
