    Get PDF
The objective of the research covered by this paper is to describe the Guinean Maritime Safety Administration as it presently exists and to identify the particular process of development that may be needed. The paper will begin by outlining the geographical features of the Republic of Guinea as regards its water transport system, continue with a general description of the maritime administration, then describes the Maritime Safety Administration in more detail including related matters. Conclusions are then formulated and recommendations concerning future developments proposed

Physicochemical characterization of municipal wastewater slaughterhouse for the implementation of a suitable treatment (Maradi city -Niger Republic

The goal of this study is to determine physicochemical characteristics of the effluent of the municipal slaughter-house of the Maradi city and to recommend a suitable treatment allowing it’s recycling, thus reducing the harmful effect which undergoes the receiving environment. The experimental results obtained showed that average values of pH, temperature, turbidity and conductivity are respectively of 7.3, 26.6°C, 326 NTU and 4720 µs/cm. Average concentrations in phosphorus, phosphate, nitrite, nitrate, calcium, calcium carbonate, magnesium, iron, fluor and organic matter, in milligram per liter, are: 0.73, 2.23, 1.7, 211.64, 148.33, 8.53, 42, 9.24, 0.15, 32.08 and 426.67, respectively

An Assessment Of The Performance Of The Cameroon Water Corporation For The Period 1967 To 2013

This paper assesses the performance of the Cameroon Water Corporation (CWC) in delivering services after four decades of existence (1967-2013) and relates that performance to organization theories. It uses secondary data on services provision and primary data on users’ perceptions of the CWC’s performance. The assessment is conducted using descriptive as well as inferential methods of data analysis. The paper observes that despite political, technical, managerial, and financial constraints that impaired the efficient delivery of drinking water and sanitation services in the country over the years, the company registered modest successes that attracted the financial support of domestic and worldwide development partners. However, more than half of the population is sceptical about better future services delivery by the CWC. Classical organization theory (COT) explains most of the failure in the operating environment of the CWC, while the formulations in modern organization theory (MOT) are found to be relevant to the improvement of water services. As a policy recommendation, the CWC should focus on MOT, while maintaining some aspects of COT to improve performance

Recycling of organic residues in compost to improve coastal sandy soil properties and cabbage shoot yield in Benin

Recycling of municipal organic waste in compost is a potential approach to addressing waste disposal problems and soil fertility management. We studied during two years experiment whether composts of municipal organic waste improved with chicken dejection (MOW+Cdj), municipal organic waste improved with cottonseeds and chicken dejection (MOW+Cdj+Csd), and maize stover residues improved with chickendejection (MSR+Cdj) may be an alternative to chemical fertilizer to improve infertile littoral sandy soil and cabbage shoot yield. 20 t ha-1 of each type of compost were applied according to a completely randomized blocdesign with five replications. The C:N ratio of the composts ranged between 10.5 and 12.1 quite favourable for microbiological processes in the soil. The addition of cottonseeds to the compost has improved its physical and chemical properties. Soil available phosphorus, CEC and exchangeable cations were significantly (P (MSR+Cdj) > (MOW+Cdj) > Control. 6.42 tha-1 and 7.63 t/ha of cabbage shoot yield were obtained in 2002 and 2003 respectively with the compost MOW+Cdj+Csd which is significantly higher (

The contribution of human capital to the economic development of Cameroon, 1980-2018

Abstract. The paper examines the contribution of human capital to the economic development of Cameroon from 1980¬-2018. To achieve this objective, data were collected from World Bank Development Indicators, for Cameroon, covering the period of 1980-2018. The error correction mechanism model was used to analyse the data using STATA 14 econometric software package. The results show that human capital has a positive and significant relationship with economic development in Cameroon. The findings suggest that gross school enrolment and labour force participation had slowed down economic development in Cameroon. The study recommends that given a significant coefficient of human capital on economic development in Cameroon, the government should create an enabling environment to reinforce the implementation of gross school enrolment, health expenditure and labour force participation policies to accelerate the process of economic development in the country.Keywords. Abstract. Stock price prediction is one of the most relevant aspects in a stock market and world economies. Price is an important variable of concern where this sector since economic and market conditions vary over time. Efficient methods are needed to describe the trends and characteristics of stock prices. The performance of different time series models for analysis of stock prices is provided to determine the feasibility of techniques for the generation of results in the wake of economic decisions. Historical time series of monthly average price of stocks for Callon, Chesapeake, General Electric and Encana in the oil and gas sector of the New York Stock Exchange were analysed for the period 2012-2019. It was discovered that the New York Stock Exchange follows a random walk. A random walk implies uncertainty. Uncertainty implies high risk. Risk is directly related to profit. The fitted autoregressive integrated moving averages model used for forecasting shows that the predicted average stock price for the period 2021-2024 for Callon, Chesapeake, General Electric and Encana may reach United States Dollars 12.14, United States Dollars 7.34, United States Dollars 21.69 and United States Dollars 23.90, respectively. Therefore, cautious trading in the New York Stock Exchange was recommended for high profits to be achieved.Keywords. Convergence; Integration; Modelling; Stationarity; Variation.JEL. Health challenges in Africa and the way forward

Africa is confronted by a heavy burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases. Cost-effective interventions that can prevent the disease burden exist but coverage is too low due to health systems weaknesses. This editorial reviews the challenges related to leadership and governance; health workforce; medical products, vaccines and technologies; information; financing; and services delivery. It also provides an overview of the orientations provided by the WHO Regional Committee for Africa for overcoming those challenges. It cautions that it might not be possible to adequately implement those orientations without a concerted fight against corruption, sustained domestic and external investment in social sectors, and enabling macroeconomic and political (i.e. internally secure) environment
