Fuzzy Technology Design for Early Detection of Diseases in Tobacco Plants
Tobacco is an agricultural product that uses leaves to be processed into pesticides, medicines and cigarettes. Tobacco quality is determined by plant maintenance and reduced pest and disease attacks. To avoid these disturbances, control is needed quickly, precisely and accurately so that the tobacco plant disease cannot spread throughout agricultural land. In making fuzzy, diseases and symptoms in tobacco plants are used as a rule base in making a fuzzy expert system. The expert system created in this research is an expert system using the concept of fuzzy logic to diagnose tobacco plant diseases, using the Mamdani inference method and the defuzzification process using the centroid method (firmness value) to get the right conclusions in diagnosing tobacco plant diseases. From the results of Mamdani's design and manual fuzzy calculations, it can be concluded that the design is ready to be further implemented into the required programming language. From the sample calculation results, it was found that damping off disease has a moderate degree of risk with a value of 41.54. With the construction of this system, it will provide easy information for farmers to carry out and find out what symptoms are contracting diseases in tobacco plants
Integration of Time-Frequency Analysis and Regularization Technique for Improved Identification of Fetal Electrocardiogram
This research article presents a novel methodology for effectively extracting the fetal electrocardiogram (FECG) from a single-channel signal acquired on the maternal abdomen. The signal comprises a mixture of the FECG, maternal electrocardiogram (MECG), and ambient noise. The central concept involves projecting the signal into higher-dimensional spaces and leveraging the assumption of statistical independence among the constituent components to achieve their separation from the mixture. To accomplish this, singular value decomposition (SVD) is initially applied to the spectrogram, followed by an iterative application of independent component analysis (ICA) on the principal components. The SVD technique contributes to the enhanced separability of each individual component, while ICA facilitates the promotion of statistical independence between the fetal and maternal ECGs. Furthermore, we refine and customize the aforementioned approach specifically for ECG signals by incorporating knowledge of the frequency distribution of the MECG and other inherent ECG characteristics. The effectiveness of the proposed methodology is validated through comprehensive experimental studies, demonstrating its superior accuracy and performance compared to existing techniques
Pan African Medical Journal 2016; 2
A non-linear backstepping control of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM)
In the industry, the permanent magnet synchronous motors are one of the most widely used motors and have superior performance compared to the other types of motors. The principal objective of this paper is to ameliorate the performance of PMSMs by implementing a robust non-linear backstepping control. The first part deals with the vector control of mechanical sensors using PI controller. In the second part, we shed the light on the non-linear backstepping control, using Lyapunov function, of PMSM from the point of view of stability and robustness. The results are validated by MALTAB/SIMULINK. The results obtained show the good stability and good dynamic of PMSM’s control by backstepping controller, also the PI is very sensitive to parameter’s machine variation compared with the backstepping controller

Improved Methods for Automatic Facial Expression Recognition
Facial expressions constitute one of the most effective and instinctive methods that allow people to communicate their emotions and intentions. In this context, the both Machine Learning (ML) and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have been used for emotion recognition. Efficient recognition systems are required for good human-computer interaction. However, facial expression recognition is related to several methods that impact the performance of facial recognition systems. In this paper, we demonstrate a state-of-the-art of 65% accuracy on the FER2013 dataset by leveraging numerous techniques from recent research and we also proposed some new methods for improving accuracy by combining CNN architectures such as VGG-16 and Resnet-50 with auxiliary datasets such as JAFFE and CK. To predict emotions, we used a second approach based on geometric features and facial landmarks to calculate and transmit the feature vector to the SVM model. The results show that the ResNet50 model outperforms all other emotion prediction models in real time by maximizing
An Energy and Latency Trade-off for Resources Allocation in a MEC System
This paper addresses the issue of efficient resource allocation in a Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) system, taking into account the trade-off between energy consumption and operation latency. The increasing deployment of connected devices and data-intensive services in the Internet of Things (IoT) poses significant challenges in terms of managing computational resources. In this study, we propose a MEC system model that considers energy constraints and the need to minimize latency to ensure optimal performance. We formulate the resource allocation problem in terms of a trade-off between energy consumption and latency, and explore solutions based on heuristic task offloading techniques. Our experiments demonstrate that our approach achieves improved latency performance while reducing energy consumption. We also evaluate the impact of various parameters, such as workload and resource availability, on the energy-latency trade-off

The Pan African Medical Journal 2016;2
