An Epidemiologic Study of Maternal Deaths in the Population Covered by Kerman University of Medical Sciences, 2010-2012
Background: Pregnancy is a physiological process in any women's life, but in some cases it might be ended in maternal death tragedy. However, most cases of maternal deaths are preventable. Reviewing maternal death cases, for the purpose of identifying the related factors is beneficial for future planning. The aim of this study was to assess the current statuses of maternal death and its causing factors in hospitals affiliated to Kerman University of Medical Sciences.
Methods: In this cross-sectional study, all cases of maternal deaths during 2010 to 2012 were studied and a designed data entry form was completed for each case. Data analysis was done through SPSS17.
Results: During the 3 years of study, 28 maternal deaths had occurred and the ratio of maternal death was calculated as 23.57 per 100000 live births. Preeclampsia was the most common direct cause and heart disease was the most common indirect cause of maternal deaths. Maternal deaths were related to shortcomings in all stages of before pregnancy, during pregnancy and post partum period.
Conclusion: In order to minimize the number of maternal deaths, more attention should be paid to the quality of maternal care before pregnancy, during pregnancy and in post partum period.

Natural Frequency Analysis Of All Edges Clamped Flexible Thin Plate
In this paper, the analysis of natural frequencies for all clamped edges rectangular flexible thin plate is carried out using Finite Difference (FD) and Finite Element (FE) approaches. According to the literatures, the differential equation of plate was obtained by considering the Kirchhoff hypotheses and Newton’s law. The dynamic differential model is developed by using the FD to obtain the natural frequencies of given plate; for this purpose, a displacement model is converted to combination of sine and cosine functions in form of Fast Fourier Series. In second method, modes of vibration are driven by FE method using the ABAQUS software. The obtained natural frequencies of both methods are evaluated and compared with previous literatures; the outcomes can explain that the improved FD method’s results are more accurate in compare with FE method’s
Monitoring deposit properties and passivation of impure copper anodes by electrochemical noise measurements
The Dynamics of Ethnic Identity in Iranian Azerbaijan
Today out of the seventy million population of Iran nearly twenty-five million are Turkish speakers. At least two thirds of this population lives in the provinces of East-West Azerbaijan, Ardabil, and the rest in and around the cities of Zanjan, Qazvin, Karaj and Tehran. Generally, the people in these areas refer to themselves as Turks, and they are Shia’ Muslims. This paper explores from an anthropological and ethnographic perspective the relationship of Azeri-Turkish speaking and Persian-speaking Iranians in the present and everyday spheres of social life. The objective is for a fine grained examination of this minority-majority encounter and what underlies the construction of a Turkish, Azeri and Azerbaijani identity in Iran. It is argued that the nature and the quality of Turkish and Persian speakers interaction have important bearing on how a minority population formulates a sense of self and based on it behaves socially, politically and nationally. The dynamics of identity construction is probed with reference to cultural sensibilities, language and boundary crossings that give reality and meaning to the historical affinity and national covenant in Iran

Maintaining ISO 7144 Standards and Research Elements in Dissertations of Different Schools from 1999 to 2004, Kerman University of Medical Sciences
Background & Objective: Maintaining the international standards and research elements in dissertations leads to clearly showing the results in a scientific way. It also facilitates indexing, abstracting and easily using them in information sources. This study aimed to assess ISO 7144 standards and research elements in dissertations of different schools from 1999 to 2004 in Kerman University of Medical Sciences.
Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 602 dissertations in schools of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and nursing (master’s degree) were evaluated. Data was collected using a checklist.
Results: Results of this study showed that there was a general ascending trend in maintaining ISO standards and research elements in the dissertations. The mean rate of maintaining ISO standard and research elements in references (90.81%), results (77.87%), figures and tables (77.29%) were higher than the other parts. In literature review (48.4%), thesis statement (50.2%) and abstract (55.18%), it was lower than other parts. This score was the highest in the dissertations of the School of Nursing (70.9%) in comparison with the other three schools.
Conclusion: Our results suggest that although an ascending trend in maintaining ISO standards and research elements in the dissertations is met, but the general status is not satisfactory. Hence, it is suggested that maintaining international standards become obligatory so internal dissertations would be applicable and documented in international spectrum together with improvement in quality.

The Knowledge of interns of Kerman Medical Sciences University Regarding Child Maltreatment
Background: Child maltreatment is not a new phenomenon and all communities have always been involved with various types of this problem. Physicians , being in the front line of diagnosis of child maltreatment, should have adequate knowledge in this regard.
Objective: To determine knowledge of interns in Kerman Medical Sciences University about child maltreatment.
Methods: A total of 86 interns participated in this cross- sectional study and data gathering was done by a semi- structured questionnaire developed according to valid sources of child maltreatment in the literature. The questionnaire’s reliability and validity were assessed (a=0.85). Based on the percentage of correct answers, the level of knowledge was classified as good (>75%) moderate (50-75%) and poor (< 50%). Chi- square test was used to determine the relationship between knowledge and considered variables.
Results: Mean knowledge score was 28.3 (SD=±4.8). Half of the interns had good knowledge and the other half had not adequate knowledge. Interns’ knowledge about risk factors of child maltreatment was moderate. In regard to the symptoms of child maltreatment, observable physical signs such as burning or fractures were being considered as the evidence of child maltreatment, while psychological signs or those related to sexual abuse were not taken serious. None of the demographic features had significant relation with knowledge level of interns. Half of the participants had obtained their knowledge during their medical courses.
Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that interns do not have adequate knowledge toward child maltreatment and considering the similarity of medical education in our country; planning educational programs to improve knowledge of Medical students and other health care providers in regard to child maltreatment seems to be highly required.

Quality of Life in Iranian Patients with Acne
Acne is a chronic inflammatory disease of pilosebaceous units. Although the acne isnot a life threatening disease, studies have revealed that it has significant effect on self-image and quality of life. The purpose of this paper was to investigate the health-related quality of life in patients with acne in an Iranian context. Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) and Cardiff Acne Disability Index (CADI) were used for measuring quality of life, and severity of acne was measured by Global Acne Grading System (GAGS). The mean (±SD) of DLQI and CADI scores was 6.42 (±4.77) and 5.97 (±2.97), respectively. Acne influenced the quality of life in 51.8% of patients from moderate to very much, and the quality of life was affected by the severity of acne (P < 0.01). Since acne has significant effects on patient's quality of life, the management of patients with acne requires more attention to different aspects of quality of life
