    Optical pattern generator for efficient bio-data encoding in a photonic sequence comparison architecture.

    In this study, optical technology is considered as SA issues' solution with the potential ability to increase the speed, overcome memory-limitation, reduce power consumption, and increase output accuracy. So we examine the effect of bio-data encoding and the creation of input images on the pattern-recognition error-rate at the output of optical Vander-lugt correlator. Moreover, we present a genetic algorithm-based coding approach, named as GAC, to minimize output noises of cross-correlating data. As a case study, we adopt the proposed coding approach within a correlation-based optical architecture for counting k-mers in a DNA string. As verified by the simulations on Salmonella whole-genome, we can improve sensitivity and speed more than 86% and 81%, respectively, compared to BLAST by using coding set generated by GAC method fed to the proposed optical correlator system. Moreover, we present a comprehensive report on the impact of 1D and 2D cross-correlation approaches, as-well-as various coding parameters on the output noise, which motivate the system designers to customize the coding sets within the optical setup

    Hydraphiles: A Rigorously Studied Class of Synthetic Channel Compounds with In Vivo Activity

    Hydraphiles are a class of synthetic ion channels that now have a twenty-year history of analysis and success. In early studies, these compounds were rigorously validated in a wide range of in vitro assays including liposomal ion flow detected by NMR or ion-selective electrodes, as well as biophysical experiments in planar bilayers. During the past decade, biological activity was observed for these compounds including toxicity to bacteria, yeast, and mammalian cells due to stress caused by the disruption of ion homeostasis. The channel mechanism was verified in cells using membrane polarity sensitive dyes, as well as patch clamping studies. This body of work has provided a solid foundation with which hydraphiles have recently demonstrated acute biological toxicity in the muscle tissue of living mice, as measured by whole animal fluorescence imaging and histological studies. Here we review the critical structure-activity relationships in the hydraphile family of compounds and the in vitro and in cellulo experiments that have validated their channel behavior. This report culminates with a description of recently reported efforts in which these molecules have demonstrated activity in living mice

    Bis(Tryptophan) Amphiphiles Form Ion Conducting Pores and Enhance Antimicrobial Activity against Resistant Bacteria

    The compounds referred to as bis(tryptophan)s (BTs) have shown activity as antimicrobials. The hypothesis that the activity of these novel amphiphiles results from insertion in bilayer membranes and transport of cations is supported by planar bilayer voltage-clamp studies reported herein. In addition, fluorescence studies of propidium iodide penetration of vital bacteria confirmed enhanced permeability. It was also found that BTs having either meta-phenylene or n-dodecylene linkers function as effective adjuvants to enhance the properties of FDA-approved antimicrobials against organisms such as S. aureus. In one example, a BT-mediated synergistic effect enhanced the potency of norfloxacin against S. aureus by 128-fold. In order to determine if related compounds in which tryptophan was replaced by other common amino acids (H2N-Aaa-linker-Aaa-NH2) we active, a family of analogs have been prepared, characterized, and tested as controls for both antimicrobial activity and as adjuvants for other antimicrobials against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. The most active of the compounds surveyed remain the bis(tryptophan) derivatives

New Journal Of Chemistry. 2013;37(1):105-111.Two resorcinarenes and one cavitand having 10-(decylthio)decyl side chains were studied by using both a planar bilayer conductance voltage clamp device and a Langmuir trough. The former detects the presence of pore formation in a phospholipid bilayer and the latter probes the aggregation behavior of the amphiphiles as a monolayer. The Langmuir trough behavior of these amphiphiles showed that higher polarity head groups dominated organization, but as the head group polarity decreased, monolayer organization was dominated by the four side chains. Among the three, i.e., resorcinarene, octamethyl resorcinarene, and cavitand, only the methylated head group derivative formed ion-conducting pores in bilayers

    Evaluation of the relationship between ovarian reserve with congenital anomalies and intramural uterine leiomyoma among infertile women: a cross-sectional study

    Abstract Background Ovarian reserve is a crucial indicator of a woman’s fertility potential, which is determined by the quality and quantity of antral follicles and oocytes. However, certain factors such as endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, myoma, and the natural process of aging can lead to a poor ovarian response to stimulation, reducing a woman’s chances of conceiving. Objective To evaluate the effect of uterus congenital anomalies and uterine leiomyoma are associated on ovarian reserve. Methods The present cross-sectional study was performed on 321 infertile women in three groups consisted of 97 infertile women with intramural uterine leiomyoma and 81 infertile women with uterine anomalies and 143 infertile women without uterine anomalies and uterine leiomyoma during 2017–2019 in Royan Center. Sampling method was continuous and available. Data collection tool in this study was a questionnaire which was in two parts of individual variables and the second part was related to ultrasound results (number of antral follicles and ovarian volume) and laboratory tests (Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH) and Follicle-stimulating Hormone (FSH)). Ovarian reserve parameters were measured in three groups on the third day of the cycle in both groups. Data analysis was performed using SPSS software version 21. Quantitative variables were analyzed using t-test, qualitative variables were analyzed using chi-square test. Results The results of in laboratory parameters showed that there was no statistically significant difference between the three groups in FSH (2.35 ± 1.55, 2.07 ± 1.81, 2.31 ± 1.93) and AMH (6.84 ± 2.75,7.52 ± 3.14,6.93 ± 3.04), respectively (P > 0.05). The results of sonographic variables also showed that the variables include number of antral follicles in right ovarian, number of antral follicles in left ovarian have statistically significant between the three groups (5.73 ± 2.69,4.84 ± 3.14,6.66 ± 3.13), respectively (P < 0.05). Conclusion The results of the present study showed that uterine abnormalities and uterine leiomyoma with different mechanisms such as reduce of antral follicle numbers and the effect on uterine and ovarian blood flow lead to a decrease in ovarian reserve and infertility. Therefore, treatment and surgery can reduce these effects and improve the fertility of the affected women
