Magnetic susceptibility of a number of sizeable organic molecules is calculated by using the model of additivity of localized molecular fragments. The results are in a good agreement with available experimental data

The modern city is a complex socio-economic organism. The state of the environment is one of the most pressing economic, scientific-technical and social problems. Architectural environment of the city residential structures is in continuous development. It is manifested in changes in population size, the shape, size and intensity of use of the mastered territories, to enhance the technical capacity and the complicating of the information field of the city. These factors of development, mobile and rapidly evolving, artificially created material environment, often come into conflict with the nature.Современный город — это сложный социально-экономический организм. Состояние окружающей среды является одной из наиболее актуальных экономических, научно-технических и социальных проблем. Архитектурная среда города находится в непрерывном развитии. Это проявляется в изменении численности населения, формы, размера и интенсивности использования освоенных территорий в целях повышения технического потенциала и усложнения информационного поля города. Факторы развития искусственно созданной материальной среды часто вступают в конфликт с природой

A brief survey on syntactical synonymy

    Get PDF
The issues of grammatical synonymy in general and syntactical synonymy specifically are timely in modern linguistics; they draw attention of many scientists. Grammatical studies of the past decade take a growing interest in the problem of synonymy. It should be noted that in linguistic literature the term 'synonymy' is increasingly frequently used in relation to different language elements: sounds, word forms, morphemes, syntactical constructions. The phenomenon of synonymy is multifold, it can be found in all aspects of the language, is closely related to problems of speech culture, stylistics, etc. Synonymy with ever increasing frequency is examined not only in vocabulary but also in syntax, which is explained by the possibilities provided by the studies of syntactical synonymy for onomasiological description of the language, transformational analysis. The aim of our study is to observe briefly approaches of different linguists to define 'syntactical synonym' and to find out main criteria of synonymity

Analysis of the basic properties of linguistic temporality

    Get PDF
© Medwell Journals, 2015. This study is devoted to revealing the nature of linguistic temporality. The interest in the subject of research is due to the ambiguity of the language phenomenon and the need to identify common characteristics of linguistic temporality as many researchers consider the temporality not as a complete system but as individual lexical, morphological, syntactic indicators. The identified properties of linguistic temporality (the orderliness of time, simultaneity/time difference, one-dimensionality/multi-dimensionality, duration) can serve as a basis for further research, both in lexical and grammatical planes

© 2016 Sadykova and Shelestova. The relevance of the present research stems from the need to consider the ways of preventing conflicts between the objective necessity of development of students’ creative activity in the learning process, and insufficient development of pedagogical conditions for its effective implementation in theoretical and methodological terms. The article is aimed at summarizing the study of creativity development by means of the foreign language. A set of methods was used in the paper: theoretical (analysis of the philosophical and methodological literature on the issue; projecting), empirical (questionnaires, interviews, testing, an experiment), methods of mathematical statistics. Experimental work covered in total 58 students and included three stages: summative, formative and controlling. The results of the experiment show that the system of exercises developed for boosting the student’s creativity proved out effective, and the selected indicators characterizing the creative activity of students reflect considerable growth. The authors also proved that the goal of foreign language teaching in higher education is both practical knowledge of the target language, and the development of the student personality. The practical significance of this research involves developing the complex of effective means, forms and methods of teaching and learning activities of students in the process of learning a foreign language in the framework of the theory of development training, and the use of the materials received in the course of study by teachers in the higher and secondary vocational schools

This article describes and analyzes students' perspective on the process of integrating online collaborative cross-cultural modules in the traditional (full-time) courses. Twenty-five US, Lithuanian and Russian students participated in a 6-week online international project The Power of Media. After the course, students completed the questionnaire that explored their learning experiences. The study showed a positive attitude of the students toward international online collaboration and illustrated beneficial impact of such cross-cultural projects on the development of linguistic and intercultural competences of learners. However, results revealed that while students learn from differences in peers' cultural and educational backgrounds, dissimilar communication and learning strategies, as well as varied ways of student-to-content and student-to-student interaction, may hinder successful learning experiences in collaborative online international learning (COIL) environments. The results speak for the need for similar cross-cultural projects to carefully plan content and activities, set clear deadlines, and use a range of online communication tools including synchronous

The semantic and cognitive characteristics of metaphorically redefined vocabulary (on the material of 'building' vocabulary)

    Get PDF
The study of metaphor is based on combining semantic and cognitive aspects of its functioning. Metaphor is viewed both as a semantic phenomenon, being special or derivative meanings of words, and as a cognitive phenomenon, being a method of perception of reality. In the framework of semantic and cognitive approach, the study of concepts is conducted by distinguishing and analysing the means of their linguistic objectivization. The modeling of the structure and the content of the concept implies its ordered, structured description with cognitive terms. A sphere of concepts is interpreted as an ordered set of concepts peculiar to a certain nation, information base of thinking, which is determined by a number of mental stereotypes in the consciousness of native speakers
