Aims and Objectives: To alert the clinician about this seemingly innocuous lesion which has a spectrum of clinical and histopathological stages and a malignant transformation rate of 100%.  Case description: We present a case of Proliferative Verrucous Leukoplakia (PVL) of a 58 year old female patient which progressed to carcinoma despite therapy.Discussion: PVL is a unique type of oral leukoplakia which has an enigmatic etiology, aggressive behavior, high recurrence rate, with relentless progression and is refractory to therapy. Unlike other types of leukoplakia, it is minimally associated with the use of tobacco

Hypocholesterolemic Effect of Flaxseed and Its Oil in the Ovariectomized Golden Syrian Hamsters

The health benefits of functional foods, such as flaxseed in lowering cholesterol and lowering the risks of atherosclerosis have already been discovered. Our earlier findings indicate that flaxseed reduced plasma cholesterol induced by ovarian hormone deficiency in Golden Syrian hamsters. This study was designed to investigate whether flaxseed oil (FO) exerts the same hypocholesterolemic effect as whole flaxseed (WF) and to gain insights into the hypocholesterolemic mechanism of action. Forty eight, 6-month-old female, Golden Syrian hamsters were either sham-operated (sham) or ovariectomized (OVX) and randomly assigned to four groups: sham, ovx, ovx plus either WF [15% diet] or FO [equivalent oil content to that of WF diet] and fed for 90 days. OVX elevated plasma total cholesterol concentrations in Golden Syrian Hamsters and WF was more effective than FO in reducing the increase in circulating cholesterol. To elucidate the hypocholesterolemic action, we quantified some key regulators of cholesterol metabolism in the liver microsomes using western blot analysis. Results indicate that flaxseed and its oil upregulated 7-? hydroxylase, an enzyme involved in bile acid synthesis, leading to cholesterol lowering effect.Department of Nutritional Science

Facile Rapid Synthesis of Polyaniline (PANI) Nanofibers

    Get PDF
A Polyaniline (PANI) nanofibers have been successfully synthesized by a facile rapid oxidative polymerization of aniline hydrochloride and ammonium persulfate at high temperature (60 C). The structural and optical properties of PANI nanofibers are investigated by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV-VIS Spectroscopy and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). The XRD analysis ascertains formation of PANI with nanocrystalline nature with average crystallite size 30 nm. Further, FTIR pattern confirmed the formation of PANI. SEM analysis has revealed homogeneous fibrous morphology of PANI nanofibers, a well formed mesh of interconnected and entangled PANI nano-fibers over the scanned area. The UV-VIS spectroscopic analysis shows three major absorption peaks at 256.73, 361.17 and 480.95 nm confirmed the PANI formation with conducting state

Synthesis of Cuprous Oxide (Cu2O) Nanoparticles – a Review

    Get PDF
Cuprous Oxide (Cu2O) a semiconductor material oxide; with unique optoelectronic properties; gains significant importance for its synthesis in view of its various technological and industrial applications. A few liquid phase methods for the synthesis of Cu2O nanoparticles are reviewed on the basis of materials, methodology, synthesis conditions and key findings. A comparative study of these methods is also performed following criteria of repeatability, safety, cost, time span and simplicity. Contextual to the above mentioned criteria, three liquid phase synthesis techniques were shortlisted and actually experimented (as reported) to synthesize the Cu2O nanoparticles. This was done to investigate the effectiveness, repeatability and stability of the synthesized Cu2O product as a function of ageing time. The synthesized Cu2O using all these techniques are prone to be unstable and undergo the rapid phase change to CuO phase which was ascertained from the shift of absorbance peak in UV-VIS spectra. The results have highlighted the urgent need to develop a facile, economical, scalable and safe method to synthesize stable Cu2O nanoparticles at room temperature

Objective: Hypertension an important global health challenge is the prevalent cause of cardiovascular disease. Natural products are emerging as new therapeutic tools in the management of hypertension due to side effects and the patient's adherence of the existing treatments. In the present study, we investigated the antihypertensive effect of the Punica granatum juice in deoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA)–salt model of hypertension in rats. Methods: Antihypertensive activity was evaluated in P. granatum juice extract (PGJ) (PJ-100 mg/kg and 300 mg/kg; p.o.) for 4 weeks in DOCA treated rats. Blood pressure by non-invasive (indirect) method and invasive method was measured. Further, vascular reactivity to noradrenaline (1 μg/kg), adrenaline (1 μg/kg), phenylephrine (1 μg/kg), serotonin (1 μg/kg), and angiotensin II (25 ng/kg) was recorded. Antioxidant studies such as thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS); while enzyme activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione reductase (GSH) in kidney tissue was also carried out. Results: Administration of PGJ (PJ-100 mg/kg and 300 mg/kg; p.o.) for 4 weeks in DOCA treated rats significantly (p<0.05) reduced the mean arterial blood pressure and vascular reactivity changes to various catecholamines. PJ treatment significantly (p<0.05) decreased the levels of TBARS; while enzyme activity of SOD, CAT, and GSH in kidney tissue was significantly increased. Conclusion: Results of the present work suggest that PGJ has an antihypertensive action in unilateral nephrectomized DOCA-salt hypertensive rats and could be possible starting point for treatment of hypertension with increased patient adherence

Analysis of Computer Network Security Storage System Based on Cloud Computing Environment

A fundamental component of cloud computers from a business perspective is that users are allowed to use any desire and pay with a product that desire. Its cloud services were accessible anytime and anywhere consumers needed them. As a result, consumers are free to purchase whatever IT services they want, and they don't have to worry about how easy things can be managed. The remote server is used in a new information storage computing architecture that is considered an Internet generation. Ensuring security, material at resource providers' sites is a challenge that must be addressed in cloud technology. Thus, rather than reliance on a single provider for knowledge storing, this research implies developing construction for protection of knowledge stockpiling with a variation of operations, in which knowledge is scrambled and divided into numerous cipher frames and distributed across a large number of provider places. This support was applied to provide greater security, scalability, or reliability that was suggested according to the new structure. This paper, presented an encoded model for the cloud environment to improve security. The proposed model comprises the parity metadata for the database management provision to the provider. In the developed encoder chunks parity is not stored within the single resources with the provision of the available information chunks. The constructed security architecture in the RAID layer increases the dependability of the data with the deployment of the RAID 10 deployment. The developed RAID-based encoder chunks exhibit improved efficiency for the higher uptime at a minimal cost
