Sastav i antimikrobno djelovanje eteriÄnog ulja iz plodova biljke Amomum cannicarpum
Essential oil from the fruits of Amomum cannicarpum (Wight) Bentham ex Baker (Zingiberaceae), was hydrodistilled and characterized by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The major constituents in the oil were betha-pinene (14.00%), elemol (10.45%) and alpha-cadinol (8.50%). Thirty-three (91.48%) out of forty-one constituents were identified by GC-MS and subsequent data analysis. The antimicrobial activity of the oil against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and some fungi were determined by the disc diffusion assay. The oil showed good antibacterial activity against Salmonella typhi, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Proteus vulgaris and very good antifungal activity against Candida albicans and C. glabrata.EteriÄno ulje iz plodova biljke Amomum cannicarpum (Wight) Bentham ex Baker (Zingiberaceae) dobiveno je destilacijom vodenom parom, a zatim je pomoÄu plinske kromatografije i masene spektrometrije (GC-MS) odreÄen njegov sastav. Najvažniji sastojci u ulju bili su -pinen (14.00%), elemol (10.45%) i -kadinol (8.50%). Ukupno je od 41 sastojka identificirano 33 sastojka (91.48%). Citostatsko i protuupalno djelovanje polisaharida biljke Ganoderma lucidum
In this study, polysaccharides were isolated from Ganoderma lucidum (Polyporaceae) and their antitumor and anti-inflammatory activities were investigated using in vivo models. Potential antitumor activity was shown by G. lucidum polysaccharides (GLP) against solid tumor induced by Ehrlichās ascites carcinoma cells. GLP at 100 mg kgā1 body mass showed 80.8 and 77.6 % reduction in tumour volume and tumour mass, respectively, when administered 24 h after tumour implantation. Again, GLP at the same dose but when administered prior to tumour inoculation, showed 79.5 and 81.2 % inhibition of tumour volume and tumour mass, respectively. GLP showed significant dose-dependent activity in carrageenean-induced (acute) and formalin-induced (chronic) inflammation assays. At 100 mg kgā1, GLP exhibited 57.6 and 58.2 % inhibition in carrageenean-induced and formalin-induced assays, respectively.U radu je ispitano in vivo citostatsko i protuupalno djelovanje polisaharida (GLP) izoliranih iz biljke Ganoderma lucidum (Polyporaceae).

<p>A new pentacyclic triterpenoid fatty acid ester, lupan-20-ol-3(Ī²)-yl hexadecanoate (<b>1</b>), together with lupan-20-ol-3(Ī²)-yl acetate (<b>2</b>), olean-18-en-3(Ī²)-yl hexadecanoate (<b>3</b>), dotriacontanoic acid (<b>4</b>), stigmasterol (<b>5</b>), rubiadin (<b>6</b>), nonadecanoic acid (<b>7</b>), palmitic acid (<b>8</b>) and camptothecin (<b>9</b>) were isolated from the hexane and chloroform extracts of <i>Ophiorrhiza shendurunii</i> from South India. Structures of the isolates were determined by 1H, 13C, 13C DEPT, 1Hā1H COSY, HMBC, HSQC, NOESY NMR, FT-IR, DART-MS, ESI-MS, alkaline hydrolysis, derivatisation, GCāMS and HPTLC analyses. <i>O. shendurunii</i> hexane and chloroform extracts showed significant activities against <i>Candida albicans</i> and <i>Fusarium oxysporum</i>. Compounds <b>1</b> to <b>3</b> showed only moderate antiyeast/antifungal activities.</p

Antioxidative and Antiinflammatory Activities of the Chloroform Extract of Ganoderma lucidum Found in South India
Antioxidative and anti-inflammatory activities of Ganoderma lucidum (Curt.: Fr.) P. Karst. (Aphyllophoromycetideae) from tropical South India were investigated. The chloroform extract of the mushroom showed marked free radical scavenging activities. The anti-inflammatory activity of the extract at concentrations of 100 and 50 mg/kg was evaluated in carrageenan induced acute and formalin induced chronic inflammatory models in mice. The extract showed remarkable antiinflammatory activity in both models, comparable to the standard reference drug diclofenac. The results suggest that anti-inflammatory activity of the chloroform extract of G. lucidum is possibly attributed to its free radical scavenging properties. This study also reveals the potent therapeutic uses of G. lucidum from South India
Chemical composition, antibacterial and anticancer activities of volatile oil of <i>Melicope denhamii</i> leaves
<div><p><i>Melicope denhamii</i> leaf volatile oil was isolated by hydrodistillation, and twenty-six constituents comprising 95.95% of the leaf oil were characterised by gas chromatographic techniques. Sesquiterpenes, zierone (22.49%) and Ī±-gurjunene (19.96%), were identified as the major components. <i>M. denhamii</i> leaf oil tested against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria showed significant activity against <i>Bacillus subtilis</i> and <i>Escherichia coli</i>. Anticancer activity of <i>M. denhamii</i> leaf oil against Dalton's lymphoma ascites cells was assessed by trypan blue exclusion and MTT assays, and the oil showed significant cytotoxicity at CD50 of 12.2Ā Ī¼g/mL. Induction of apoptosis on DLA cells by <i>M. denhamii</i> leaf oil was confirmed by morphological observation, nuclear damage and comet assays.</p></div
