Analytic study of properties of holographic p-wave superconductors
In this paper, we analytically investigate the properties of p-wave
holographic superconductors in -Schwarzschild background by two
approaches, one based on the Sturm-Liouville eigenvalue problem and the other
based on the matching of the solutions to the field equations near the horizon
and near the asymptotic region. The relation between the critical
temperature and the charge density has been obtained and the dependence of the
expectation value of the condensation operator on the temperature has been
found. Our results are in very good agreement with the existing numerical
results. The critical exponent of the condensation also comes out to be 1/2
which is the universal value in the mean field theory.Comment: Latex, To appear in JHE
Growth effects on mixed culture of Dunaliella salina and Phaeodactylum tricornutum under different inoculation densities and nitrogen concentrations
Dunaliella salina and Phaeodactylum tricornutum are two important marine microalgae rich in bioactive substances and other high-value constituents. In this study, growth effects on mixed culture of these two microalgae were studied under different inoculation proportions (10:0, 7:3, 5:5, 3:7, 0:10) and low, medium and high nitrogen concentrations of 1.4, 14 and 140 mg/l, respectively. By evaluating cell density, OD680, biomass, chlorophyll a and protein content in the culture, it was found that colony cell growth of D. salina and P. tricornutum was increased with the increasing of nitrogen concentrations. Additionally, mixed culture of D. salina and P. tricornutum under high and medium nitrogen concentrations increased the growth of cell colonies (especially when the inoculation proportion was 7:3) and chlorophyll a content by as much as 96.7 and 132.8%. Protein content was also increased by 1.3 and 2.8 folds when compared with that obtained with monoculture of D. salina and P. tricornutum. In contrast, when the mixed culture was done under low concentration of nitrogen, cell colonies growth was restricted due to limitation of nitrogen.Key words: Dunaliella salina, Phaeodactylum tricornutum, inoculation density, mixed-culture, nitrogen concentration
Holographic Superconductors from Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton Gravity
We construct holographic superconductors from Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton
gravity in 3+1 dimensions with two adjustable couplings and the charge
carried by the scalar field. For the values of and we
consider, there is always a critical temperature at which a second order phase
transition occurs between a hairy black hole and the AdS RN black hole in the
canonical ensemble, which can be identified with the superconducting phase
transition of the dual field theory. We calculate the electric conductivity of
the dual superconductor and find that for the values of and where
is small the dual superconductor has similar properties to the
minimal model, while for the values of and where is
large enough, the electric conductivity of the dual superconductor exhibits
novel properties at low frequencies where it shows a "Drude Peak" in the real
part of the conductivity.Comment: 25 pages, 13 figures; v2, typos corrected; v3, refs added, to appear

Holographic Entanglement Entropy in P-wave Superconductor Phase Transition
We investigate the behavior of entanglement entropy across the holographic
p-wave superconductor phase transition in an Einstein-Yang-Mills theory with a
negative cosmological constant. The holographic entanglement entropy is
calculated for a strip geometry at AdS boundary. It is found that the
entanglement entropy undergoes a dramatic change as we tune the ratio of the
gravitational constant to the Yang-Mills coupling, and that the entanglement
entropy does behave as the thermal entropy of the background black holes. That
is, the entanglement entropy will show the feature of the second order or first
order phase transition when the ratio is changed. It indicates that the
entanglement entropy is a good probe to investigate the properties of the
holographic phase transition.Comment: 19 pages,15 figures, extended discussion in Sec.5, references adde
Analytic study of Gauss-Bonnet holographic superconductors in Born-Infeld electrodynamics
Using Sturm-Liouville (SL) eigenvalue problem, we investigate several
properties of holographic s-wave superconductors in Gauss-Bonnet gravity with
Born-Infeld electrodynamics in the probe limit. Our analytic scheme has been
found to be in good agreement with the numerical results. From our analysis it
is quite evident that the scalar hair formation at low temperatures is indeed
affected by both the Gauss-Bonnet as well as the Born-Infeld coupling
parameters. We also compute the critical exponent associated with the
condensation near the critical temperature. The value of the critical exponent
thus obtained indeed suggests a universal mean field behavior.Comment: 9 pages, Latex, minor modifications, To appear in JHE
The Rich Structure of Gauss-Bonnet Holographic Superconductors
We study fully backreacting, Gauss-Bonnet (GB) holographic superconductors in
5 bulk spacetime dimensions. We explore the system's dependence on the scalar
mass for both positive and negative GB coupling, . We find that when
the mass approaches the Breitenlohner-Freedman (BF) bound and
the effect of backreaction is to increase the
critical temperature, , of the system: the opposite of its effect in the
rest of parameter space. We also find that reducing below zero
increases and that the effect of backreaction is diminished. We study the
zero temperature limit, proving that this system does not permit regular
solutions for a non-trivial, tachyonic scalar field and constrain possible
solutions for fields with positive masses. We investigate singular, zero
temperature solutions in the Einstein limit but find them to be incompatible
with the concept of GB gravity being a perturbative expansion of Einstein
gravity. We study the conductivity of the system, finding that the inclusion of
backreaction hinders the development of poles in the conductivity that are
associated with quasi-normal modes approaching the real axis from elsewhere in
the complex plane.Comment: 26 pages, 11 figures, V3, Added discussion of non-tachyonic scalars,

Holography of Charged Dilaton Black Holes
We study charged dilaton black branes in . Our system involves a
dilaton coupled to a Maxwell field with dilaton-dependent
gauge coupling, . First, we find the solutions for
extremal and near extremal branes through a combination of analytical and
numerical techniques. The near horizon geometries in the simplest cases, where
, are Lifshitz-like, with a dynamical exponent
determined by . The black hole thermodynamics varies in an interesting
way with , but in all cases the entropy is vanishing and the specific
heat is positive for the near extremal solutions. We then compute conductivity
in these backgrounds. We find that somewhat surprisingly, the AC conductivity
vanishes like at T=0 independent of . We also explore the
charged black brane physics of several other classes of gauge-coupling
functions . In addition to possible applications in AdS/CMT, the
extremal black branes are of interest from the point of view of the attractor
mechanism. The near horizon geometries for these branes are universal,
independent of the asymptotic values of the moduli, and describe generic
classes of endpoints for attractor flows which are different from .Comment: 33 pages, 3 figures, LaTex; v2, references added; v3, more refs

Hydrodynamics of a 5D Einstein-dilaton black hole solution and the corresponding BPS state
We apply the potential reconstruction approach to generate a series of
asymptotically AdS (aAdS) black hole solutions, with a self-interacting bulk
scalar field. Based on the method, we reproduce the pure AdS solution as a
consistency check and we also generate a simple analytic 5D black hole
solution. We then study various aspects of this solution, such as temperature,
entropy density and conserved charges. Furthermore, we study the hydrodynamics
of this black hole solution in the framework of fluid/gravity duality, e.g. the
ratio of the shear viscosity to the entropy density. In a degenerate case of
the 5D black hole solution, we find that the c function decreases monotonically
from UV to IR as expected. Finally, we investigate the stability of the
degenerate solution by studying the bosonic functional energy of the gravity
and the Witten-Nester energy . We confirm that the degenerate solution
is a BPS domain wall solution. The corresponding superpotential and the
solution of the killing spinor equation are found explicitly.Comment: V2: 23 pages, no figure, minor changes, typos corrected, new

Emergent Quantum Near-Criticality from Baryonic Black Branes
We find new black 3-brane solutions describing the "conifold gauge theory" at
nonzero temperature and baryonic chemical potential. Of particular interest is
the low-temperature limit where we find a new kind of weakly curved
near-horizon geometry; it is a warped product AdS_2 x R^3 x T^{1,1} with warp
factors that are powers of the logarithm of the AdS radius. Thus, our solution
encodes a new type of emergent quantum near-criticality. We carry out some
stability checks for our solutions. We also set up a consistent ansatz for
baryonic black 2-branes of M-theory that are asymptotic to AdS_4 x Q^{1,1,1}.Comment: 29 pages, 4 figures; v2 discussion of entropy revised, minor changes;

Entanglement Entropy and Wilson Loop in St\"{u}ckelberg Holographic Insulator/Superconductor Model
We study the behaviors of entanglement entropy and vacuum expectation value
of Wilson loop in the St\"{u}ckelberg holographic insulator/superconductor
model. This model has rich phase structures depending on model parameters. Both
the entanglement entropy for a strip geometry and the heavy quark potential
from the Wilson loop show that there exists a "confinement/deconfinement" phase
transition. In addition, we find that the non-monotonic behavior of the
entanglement entropy with respect to chemical potential is universal in this
model. The pseudo potential from the spatial Wilson loop also has a similar
non-monotonic behavior. It turns out that the entanglement entropy and Wilson
loop are good probes to study the properties of the holographic superconductor
phase transition.Comment: 23 pages,12 figures. v2: typos corrected, accepted in JHE
