Correlators of Vertex Operators for Circular Strings with Winding Numbers in AdS5xS5

We compute semiclassically the two-point correlator of the marginal vertex operators describing the rigid circular spinning string state with one large spin and one windining number in AdS_5 and three large spins and three winding numbers in S^5. The marginality condition and the conformal invariant expression for the two-point correlator obtained by using an appropriate vertex operator are shown to be associated with the diagonal and off-diagonal Virasoro constraints respectively. We evaluate semiclassically the three-point correlator of two heavy circular string vertex operators and one zero-momentum dilaton vertex operator and discuss its relation with the derivative of the dimension of the heavy circular string state with respect to the string tension.Comment: 16 pages, LaTeX, no figure

Gauge gravity duality for d-wave superconductors: prospects and challenges

We write down an action for a charged, massive spin two field in a fixed Einstein background. Despite some technical problems, we argue that in an effective field theory framework and in the context of the AdS/CFT correspondence, this action can be used to study the properties of a superfluid phase transition with a d-wave order parameter in a dual strongly interacting field theory. We investigate the phase diagram and the charge conductivity of the superfluid phase. We also explain how possible couplings between the spin two field and bulk fermions affect the fermion spectral function.Comment: 42 pages, 6 figure

Holographic Correlation Functions for Open Strings and Branes

In this paper, we compute holographically the two-point and three-point functions of giant gravitons with open strings. We consider the maximal giant graviton in S5S^5 and the string configurations corresponding to the ground states of Z=0 and Y=0 open spin chain, and the spinning string in AdS5_5 corresponding to the derivative type impurities in Y=0 or Z=0 open spin chain as well. We treat the D-brane and open string contribution separately and find the corresponding D3-brane and string configurations in bulk which connect the composite operators at the AdS5_5 boundary. We apply a new prescription to treat the string state contribution and find agreements for the two-point functions. For the three-point functions of two giant gravitons with open strings and one certain half-BPS chiral primary operator, we find that the D-brane contributions to structure constant are always vanishing and the open string contribution for the Y=0 ground state is in perfect match with the prediction in the free field limit.Comment: 25 page

    d+idd+id Holographic Superconductors

A holographic model of d+idd+id superconductors based on the action proposed by Benini, Herzog, and Yarom [arXiv:1006.0731] is studied. This model has a charged spin two field in an AdS black hole spacetime. Working in the probe limit, the normalizable solution of the spin two field in the bulk gives rise to a d+idd+id superconducting order parameter at the boundary of the AdS. We calculate the fermion spectral function in this\ superconducting background and confirm the existence of fermi arcs for non-vanishing Majorana couplings. By changing the relative strength Îł\gamma of the dd and idid condensations, the position and the size of the fermi arcs are changed. When Îł=1\gamma =1, the spectrum becomes isotropic and the spectral function is s-wave like. By changing the fermion mass, the fermi momentum is changed. We also calculate the conductivity for these holographic d+idd+id superconductors where time reversal symmetry has been broken spontaneously. A non-vanishing Hall conductivity is obtained even without an external magnetic field.Comment: 24 pages,17 figures, Add more discussions on hall conductivity, two new figures, Matched with published versio

On semiclassical approximation for correlators of closed string vertex operators in AdS/CFT

We consider the 2-point function of string vertex operators representing string state with large spin in AdS_5. We compute this correlator in the semiclassical approximation and show that it has the expected (on the basis of state-operator correspondence) form of the strong-coupling limit of the 2-point function of single trace minimal twist operators in gauge theory. The semiclassical solution representing the stationary point of the path integral with two vertex operator insertions is found to be related to the large spin limit of the folded spinning string solution by a euclidean continuation, transformation to Poincare coordinates and conformal map from cylinder to complex plane. The role of the source terms coming from the vertex operator insertions is to specify the parameters of the solution in terms of quantum numbers (dimension and spin) of the corresponding string state. Understanding further how similar semiclassical methods may work for 3-point functions may shed light on strong-coupling limit of the corresponding correlators in gauge theory as was recently suggested by Janik et al in arXiv:1002.4613.Comment: 19 pages, 1 figure; minor corrections, references added, footnote below eq. Correlation function of null polygonal Wilson loops with local operators

We consider the correlator of a light-like polygonal Wilson loop with n cusps with a local operator (like the dilaton or the chiral primary scalar) in planar N =4 super Yang-Mills theory. As a consequence of conformal symmetry, the main part of such correlator is a function F of 3n-11 conformal ratios. The first non-trivial case is n=4 when F depends on just one conformal ratio \zeta. This makes the corresponding correlator one of the simplest non-trivial observables that one would like to compute for generic values of the `t Hooft coupling \lambda. We compute F(\zeta,\lambda) at leading order in both the strong coupling regime (using semiclassical AdS5 x S5 string theory) and the weak coupling regime (using perturbative gauge theory). Some results are also obtained for polygonal Wilson loops with more than four edges. Furthermore, we also discuss a connection to the relation between a correlator of local operators at null-separated positions and cusped Wilson loop suggested in arXiv:1007.3243.Comment: 36 pages, 2 figure

Energy-Spin Trajectories in AdS_5 x S^5 from Semiclassical Vertex Operators

We study the relation between vertex operators in AdS_5 x S^5 and classical spinning string solutions. In the limit of large quantum numbers the treatment of vertex operators becomes semiclassical. In this regime, a given vertex operator carrying a certain set of quantum numbers defines a singular solution. We show in a number of examples that this solution coincides with the classical string solution with the same quantum numbers but written in a different two-dimensional coordinate system. The marginality condition imposed on an operator yields a relation between the energy and the other quantum numbers which is shown to coincide with that of the corresponding classical string solution. We also argue that in some cases vertex operators in AdS_5 x S^5 cannot be given by expressions similar to the ones in flat space and a more involved consideration is required.Comment: 23 pages, 1 Figur

Correlation functions of three heavy operators - the AdS contribution

    Get PDF
We consider operators in N=4 SYM theory which are dual, at strong coupling, to classical strings rotating in S^5. Three point correlation functions of such operators factorize into a universal contribution coming from the AdS part of the string sigma model and a state-dependent S^5 contribution. Consequently a similar factorization arises for the OPE coefficients. In this paper we evaluate the AdS universal factor of the OPE coefficients which is explicitly expressed just in terms of the anomalous dimensions of the three operators.Comment: 49 pages, 3 figures; v.2 references corrected; v3: corrected discussion in section 5, results unchange

Holographic three-point functions of semiclassical states

We calculate the holographic three-point functions in N = 4 super-Yang-Mills theory in the case when two of the operators are semiclassical and one is dual to a supergravity mode. We further discuss the transition to the regime when all three operators are semiclassical.Comment: 17 pages, 3 figures; v2: refs. added, discussion in sec. 2.1 expanded; v3: misprint in (2.28) corrected, published versio

    Three-point correlators for giant magnons

    Get PDF
Three-point correlation functions in the strong-coupling regime of the AdS/CFT correspondence can be analyzed within a semiclassical approximation when two of the vertex operators correspond to heavy string states having large quantum numbers while the third vertex corresponds to a light state with fixed charges. We consider the case where the heavy string states are chosen to be giant magnon solitons with either a single or two different angular momenta, for various different choices of light string states.Comment: 15 pages.
