Medical management of ovarian ectopic pregnancy- a case report

    Get PDF
Primary ovarian ectopic pregnancy is a rare type of ectopic pregnancy which has an estimated prevalence ranging from 1:7000 to 1:70,000 accounting for almost 3 % of all ectopic cases. A 37-year-old woman was referred to our hospital intermittent vaginal spotting, recurrent abdominal pain that was getting worse, and 3 days of vaginal bleeding with clot passage. Her general condition was good and her vital signs were normal. She felt tenderness in an abdominal examination and had a small amount of vaginal bleeding. Transvaginal ultrasonography showed an ectopic gestational sac, in her right ovary. Our final diagnosis was ectopic ovarian pregnancy and we successfully treated her with methotrexate. After 3 doses of methotrexate administration her beta human chorionic gonadotropin was negative and a sonographic examination was completely normal. Approximately 3% of all ectopic pregnancies are located in the ovaries. Preoperative diagnosis of this extremely rare condition is challenging, because the ectopic pregnancy often resembles cysts of the corpus luteum

The present investigation was conducted to determine the variability, heritability, genetic advance and correlation of fruit yield and ten different yield contributing characters in bottle gourd. Wide range of variation was observed for most of the characters like fruit yield/vine, fruit number/vine, fruit weight, fruit yield/ha and node number for first female flower appearance. Phenotypic coefficient of variation was higher than genotypic coefficient of variation for all the traits studied, indicating environmental influence on expression of these characters. However, high heritability (broad sense) along with high genetic advance was recorded by vinelength, branch number, fruit length, fruit width, fruit yield/vine and yield/ha indicating the presence of additive gene effects, hence selection can be employed for the improvement of these parameters. Fruit yield/ ha was significantly and positively associated with fruit number/vine and fruit yield/vine both at genotypic as well as phenotypic levels. Fruit number had maximum direct effect (0.812) on fruit yield/ha followed by fruit weight (0.407), fruit length (0.339), fruit width (0.310), fruit yield/vine (0.249), days taken for first female flower appearance (0.224) and vine length (0.173). Therefore for the yield improvement in bottle gourd, emphasismay be given for indirect selection through fruit parameters like fruit weight, fruit length, fruit number and fruit yield/vine

A database management system for selection of steel

    Get PDF
Selection of an ideal material for a given application will be a relatively simple matter, if perfect or near perfect materials are available. Such a material will have high strength, high toughness, good ductility and good fabricability. These properties would not necessarily be compatible in an existing material. Compromises and trade-offs among various properties become inevitable. On the other hand, infinite number of possible materials in various forms and its usage are so intertwined in all industries that a person can have no real comprehension of the characteristics of all the materials. A computer assistance either in the form of a software or a database is therefore unavoidable. A database is developed to assist in the selection of steels for scientific and engineering applications. A program is written in Foxpro to identify the ideal steel based on its tensile strength, elongation, toughness and hardness. The program can select the suitable steels and can generate the forging temper-ature, heat treatment procedure, etc. The input data are obtained from various handbooks and textbooks. A Pentium-586 with FOXPRO is used to build the prototype database management system in DOS environment. Human interface with the system is enhanced by the user-friendly menus. The database can be made compatible easily to a wide variety of micro, mini and mainframe computers

Epithelioid trophoblastic tumor: a case report of a rare trophoblastic neoplasm

    Get PDF
Epithelioid Trophoblastic Tumor (ETT) is a rare neoplasm of the chorionic type intermediate trophoblastic cells. It is a neoplasm of reproductive age women and usually follows a gestational event. ETT can occur at both intra uterine and extra uterine sites and can be confused with other entities such as squamous cell carcinoma, placental site nodule, placental site trophoblastic tumor etc. Hence, proper diagnosis of this tumor is necessary to avoid unnecessary, excessive treatment as surgical treatment is considered sufficient for ETT. We present a case of ETT in a 36 year old female, who came with symptoms of pain abdomen, white discharge per vaginum and a cervical mass

Identification of paleosols in the Precambrian metapelitic assemblages of peninsular Indi - a major element geochemical approach

AI2O3 greater than 20%, positive correlation between AI2O3 and Ti02, plot towards the AI2O3 corner in the Al203-K20-Fe2O3 (T) diagram and high chemical indices of alteration and weathering (CIA, CIW) distinguish the paleosols (fossil residual soils) from transported and deposited pelitic rocks like shales. Submarine weathering products are characterized by high MgO whereas the subaerial ones are not. Application of these criteria shows that majority of the khondalites of Orissa, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala are metamorphosed paleosols. They were probably formed from bauxite type lateritic soils. The protoliths of khondalites of Madras were, however, shales. Except for the biotite schists, other high alumina metapelites of Holenarasipur greenstone belt could also have been formed from paleosols. These latter being characterized by higher MgO content could represent metamorphosed submarine weathering products. The metapelites occurring at the base of the Aravalli Supergroup in Rajasthan also have chemical characters similar to residual soils. The Dharwar and Cuddapah shales stand apart from such metamorphosed probable paleosols

Serous carcinoma cervix: a rare and aggressive carcinoma mimicking ovarian malignancy

    Get PDF
Cervical cancers are the most common gynaecological cancers affecting women in India. Only rarely it is seen that cervical cancers metastasize to the ovaries. Serous carcinoma of cervix is a rare histological variant of adenocarcinoma of cervix, which is an aggressive tumour which usually presents in advanced stages and with metastasis to local and distant organs. Its abnormal and metastatic presentation disguising as ovarian malignancy often deceits the clinical and surgical decisions. Here we reported a rare presentation of primary endocervical cancer masquerading as ovarian carcinoma, which was treated with staging laparotomy followed by chemotherapy and patient had a good response with resolution of tumour masses

Unravelling Seasonal Shifts: Exploring Carbon and Nitrogen Stable Isotope Signatures in Zooplankton of Kakinada Bay, Andhra Pradesh, India.

The present study focused on the seasonal variability of carbon and nitrogen stable isotopic signatures in zooplankton collected from Kakinada Bay. Physiochemical parameters of the bay, such as temperature, salinity, nitrates, nitrites, dissolved nutrients, phosphates, and chlorophyll a, were evaluated. The isotopic ratios of carbon and nitrogen in zooplankton and POM were determined using an isotope-ratio mass spectrophotometer. The δ13C values of zooplankton and POM were higher in Kakinada Bay, indicating enrichment of δ13C in primary production. The δ15N values of zooplankton ranged from 8.17 to 9.58, with the highest values observed during the monsoon season. The study provides insights into the trophic structure and anthropogenic influences on the marine ecosystem in Kakinada Ba

The present investigation was made to determine variability, heritability, genetic advance and correlation of fruit yield with 10 yield-contributing traits in ridge gourd. A wide variability was observed for days taken to first female flower appearance, fruit length, fruit number/plant, fruit weight and fruit yield/ha. Phenotypic coefficient of variation was higher than genotypic coefficient of variation for all the traits studied, indicating environmental influence on the expression of these traits. However, high heritability (broad-sense), along with high genetic advance, was recorded in node number at which first female-flower appeared, number of branches, fruit length, number of fruits/plant and fruit weight, indicating presence of additive gene effects. Fruit yield/ha was significantly and positively associated with peduncle length, fruit length, number of fruits/plant (at the phenotypic level), fruit weight and fruit yield/plant. Fruit weight had the highest direct effect (0.847) on fruit yield/ha, followed by fruit yield/plant (0.793), fruit number (0.344), peduncle length (0.237) and number of branches (0.216). Therefore, for yield improvement in ridge gourd, emphasis may be laid on indirect selection using fruit parameters like fruit weight, number of fruits/plant and fruit yield/plant. &nbsp

Energy management is a vital tool for reducing significant supply-side deficits and increasing the efficiency of power generation. The present energy system standard emphasizes lowering the total cost of power without limiting consumption by opting to lower electricity use during peak hours. The previous problem necessitates the development and growth of a flexible and mobile technology that meets the needs of a wide variety of customers while preserving the general energy balance. In order to replace a partial load decrease in a controlled manner, smart energy management systems are designed, according to the preferences of the user, for the situation of a full power loss in a particular region. Smart Energy Management Systems incorporate cost-optimization methods based on human satisfaction with sense input features and time of utilization. In addition to developing an Internet of Things (IoT) for data storage and analytics, reliable LoRa connectivity for residential area networks is also developed. The proposed method is named as LoRa_bidirectional gated recurrent neural network (LoRa_ BiGNN) model which achieves 0.11 and 0.13 of MAE, 0.21 and 0.23 of RMSE, 0.34 and 0.23 of MAPE for heating and cooling loads
