All-Order Corrections and Multi-Jet Rates
We discuss results from a recently proposed all-order description of hard,
radiative corrections to certain multi-jet processes at hadron colliders. The
description is based on obtaining an all-order estimate of the t-channel
singularities of scattering amplitudes. As a simple example, we illustrate the
similarities between qQ and qg-scattering. In particular, we discuss how at
tree-level, all non-suppressed helicity-amplitudes for these processes consist
of a pure t-channel pole. This structure is used in the construction of
all-order approximations.Comment: 6 pages. Talk given at RADCOR 2009 - 9th International Symposium on

Resummation of the transverse-energy distribution in Higgs boson production at the Large Hadron Collider
We compute the resummed hadronic transverse-energy () distribution due
to initial-state QCD radiation in the production of a Standard Model Higgs
boson of mass 126 GeV by gluon fusion at the Large Hadron Collider, with
matching to next-to-leading order calculations at large . Effects of
hadronization, underlying event and limited detector acceptance are estimated
using aMC@NLO with the Herwig++ and Pythia 8 event generators.Comment: 26 pages, 13 figures. Version to appear in JHE

Distribution of periodic points of polynomial diffeomorphisms of C^2
This paper deals with the dynamics of a simple family of holomorphic
diffeomorphisms of \C^2: the polynomial automorphisms. This family of maps
has been studied by a number of authors. We refer to [BLS] for a general
introduction to this class of dynamical systems. An interesting object from the
point of view of potential theory is the equilibrium measure of the set
of points with bounded orbits. In [BLS] is also characterized
dynamically as the unique measure of maximal entropy. Thus is also an
equilibrium measure from the point of view of the thermodynamical formalism. In
the present paper we give another dynamical interpretation of as the
limit distribution of the periodic points of
Using lean methodologies for economically and environmentally sustainable foundries
Lean manufacturing is often seen as a set of tools that reduce the total cost and improve the quality of manufactured products. The lean management philosophy is one which targets waste reduction in every facet of the manufacturing business; however, only recently have studies linked lean management philosophies with improving environmental sustainability. These studies suggest that lean manufacturing is more than a set of lean tools that can optimize manufacturing efficiencies; it is a process and mindset that needs to be integrated into daily manufacturing systems to achieve sustainability. The foundry industry, as well as manufacturing in general, has significant challenges in the current regulatory and political climate with developing an economically and environmentally sustainable business model. Lean manufacturing has proven itself as a model for both economic sustainability and environmental stewardship. Several recent studies have shown that both lean and green techniques and “zero-waste” policies also lead to reductions in overall cost. While these strategies have been examined for general manufacturing, they have not been investigated in detail for the foundry industry. This paper will review the current literature and describe how lean and green can provide a relevant framework for environmentally and economically sustainable foundries. Examples of lean and green technologies and techniques which can be applied to foundries in a global context will be described
Next-to-leading order multi-leg processes for the Large Hadron Collider
In this talk we discuss recent progress concerning precise predictions for
the LHC. We give a status report of three applications of our method to deal
with multi-leg one-loop amplitudes: The interference term of Higgs production
by gluon- and weak boson fusion to order O(alpha^2 alpha_s^3) and the
next-to-leading order corrections to the two processes pp -> ZZ jet and u ubar
-> d dbar s sbar. The latter is a subprocess of the four jet cross section at
the LHC.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures. Talk given at the 8th international Symposium on

HEJ 2: High energy resummation for hadron colliders
We present HEJ 2, a new implementation of the High Energy Jets formalism for high-energy resummation in hadron-collider processes as a flexible Monte Carlo event generator. In combination with a conventional fixed-order event generator, HEJ 2 can be used to obtain greatly improved predictions for a number of phenomenologically important processes by adding all-order logarithmic corrections in . A prime example for such a process is the gluon-fusion production of a Higgs boson in association with widely separated jets, which constitutes the dominant background to Higgs boson production in weak-boson fusion
