Whiteness 101: Racial Identity Work for White Educators to Advance Antiracist Pedagogy

Whiteness, White privilege, and racial inequality are pervasive in K-12 schools and universities. Recognizing that race is a human invented classification construct that has had and continues to have a direct causal effect on the historical and present inequality of the United States, White educators must reckon with their own racial identities as White people in a White supremacist society. White educators are complicit in reproducing White supremacist societal structures through K-12 schooling and in universities, thus bearing responsibility to disrupt, dismantle and rebuild a more just and equitable education system. This field project incorporates my experiences as facilitator of a learning community on Whiteness for White-identified faculty and staff at a private university in the San Francisco Bay Area. The dialogue-based series was offered to White identified faculty and staff to establish a deeper understanding of White identity in relation to BIPOC and to develop skills to confront and disrupt the impacts of Whiteness personally and professionally, and to critically examine our relationship to Whiteness while reimagining what White allyship and co-conspiracy looks like through an equity-minded framework. As an educator outside of the university, my intended goal is to modify and adapt this resource for use across a variety of educational settings including in elementary education, community organizations, and even corporate settings; everywhere where Whiteness operates and White Supremacy is enacted

This study developed an assistive system for the severe physical disabilities, named “code-maker translator assistive input device” which utilizes a contest fuzzy recognition algorithm and Morse codes encoding to provide the keyboard and mouse functions for users to access a standard personal computer, smartphone, and tablet PC. This assistive input device has seven features that are small size, easy installing, modular design, simple maintenance, functionality, very flexible input interface selection, and scalability of system functions, when this device combined with the computer applications software or APP programs. The users with severe physical disabilities can use this device to operate the various functions of computer, smartphone, and tablet PCs, such as sending e-mail, Internet browsing, playing games, and controlling home appliances. A patient with a brain artery malformation participated in this study. The analysis result showed that the subject could make himself familiar with operating of the long/short tone of Morse code in one month. In the future, we hope this system can help more people in need

Plant-based products widely growth in food and pharmaceutical industry in order to reduce prevalence ailment as it is become resilience to existing medicines. Sesamum radiatum is one of the traditional medicinal plant used in Africa and can be found Malaysia. Qualitative analysis of S.radiatum seeds revealed the presence of flavonoids, saponins, terpenoids and steroids in ethanolic extract. The aqueous extract simultaneously inhibits the presence of saponins and steroids. The results on quantitative analysis show S.radiatum seeds contain alkaloids and saponins with percentage content 36.70 % and 12.04 % respectively. However, UV Visible spectrophotometer was used to obtain a standard calibration curve to determine the concentration of tannins content (4.475 mg GAE/g), ascorbic acid (15.171 mg AAE/g), total phenolic content (9.187 mg GAE/g) and total flavonoid content (4.585 mg QE/g). For DPPH scavenging activity test, ascorbic acid act as positive control to compare with the S.radiatum seeds. The sample extracts inhibit 32 % of scavenging activity with IC50 value is 11.47 mg/L. S.radiatum seeds are suggested as a good sources of supplement based on phytochemicals presence in it
