This study was carried out to investigate the fertility, milk production and body weight of ewes and the survival rates and growth characteristics for Kıvırcık, Gokceada and Sakız breeds of sheep kept as gene resources in western part of Turkiye. Kıvırcık, Gokceada and Sakız breeds of sheep are included in the project for conservation of indigenious breeds as genetic resources. Lambing rate, litter size, milk yield and live weight for Kıvırcık, Gökçeada and Sakız ewes were 79.8 %, 67.6 % and 74.5 %; 1.26, 1.24 and 1.83; 41.8, 51.1 and 58.0 kg; 62.60, 51.39, and 48.52 kg. respectively. The lambs produced by Kıvırcık, Gokceada and Sakız ewes had 97 %, 94.7 % and 92.2 % survival rates to weaning; 4.09, 3.52 and 3.93 kg. birth weights; 38.17, 29.25 and 30.82 kg. weaning weights; 43.14, 35.57 and 34.64 kg. sixth month weights; 49.13, 39.70 and 37.39 kg. yearling weights respectively

WOS: 000288250800001The objective of this study was to estimate the effect of inbreeding on birth weight (BW), weaning weight (WW90), and lamb survival rate (LSR) in Sakiz sheep. The effect of inbreeding on BW, WW90, and LSR traits was studied by analysis of variance technique and regression method. Inbreeding had a significant effect on BW and the regression coefficient of inbreeding on BW was -0.0245+/-0.0076 kg (P<0.01). The mean level of inbreeding (F) of all animals overall years was 2.25% for lambs. The inbred lambs rate was 17.7%. The coefficient of inbreeding ranged from 6.25% to 25.0% and average was 12.68% for birth weight in inbred lambs. Inbreeding weren't a significant effect on weaning weight at 90 days of age and lamb survival rate. It was concluded that inbreeding showed deleterious effects on birth weight and had a no effect on lamb's weaning weight and survival rate

This study was carried out to investigate some reproductive and lamb growth performance of Ramli{dotless}ç sheep in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 years. The effect of year was found significant on fecundity and litter size of the ewes. The average fecundity, litter size and lamb survival rate of Ramli{dotless}ç ewes were 0.79, 1.13 and, 94.9%, respectively. The birth weight (BW), weaning weight (WW) and six month live weight (SMLW) for male and female lambs were 4.63 kg and 4.20 kg, 30.92 and 26.94 kg, 37.40 and 33.21 kg, respectively. The effect of age of dam, year, birth type and sex were significant on BW, WW and ADWG of lambs. The average daily weight gain of lambs at weaning was 286.88 g and male and female lambs were 303.62 g and 270.13 g, respectively

WOS: 000297712300001This study was carried out on Kivircik, Sakiz and Gokceada sheep bred at Marmara Livestock Research Institute. A total of 156 heads sheep from different age groups were used in the study. The relationships between Body Condition Scores (BCS) and Body Weights (BW) have been investigated in three different physiological periods such as breeding, lambing and weaning period of indigenous sheep breeds in Turkey. As a result of the analyses conducted, the relationship between body condition score and body weight were found to be BW = 28.716+6.962* BCS; BW = 39.977+6.771* BCS; BW = 33.444+7.074* BCS for the breeding, lambing and weaning periods respectively. Similarly, correlations (r) between them were found to be 0.817, 0.731, 0.746 respectively (P<0.01). The regression coefficients of BCS on BW were 6.962 kg, 6.771 kg, 7.074 kg at breeding, lambing, weaning respectively and also significant (P<0.01). The findings demonstrate that body condition score is a good indicator of changes in body weights in Kivircik, Sakiz and Gokceada indigenous sheep breeds and will assist sheep breeders with regard to the feeding program to be applied particularly before the breeding season
