THE CONCEPT OF INTELLECTUAL CAPITAL IN DEVELOPMENT SYSTEMS

The human capital and structural capital constitute the primary assets of every organisation and more and more every territory: on urban, local, regional, national and global levels. Restructuring technique, technology, organisation of production and work (means of production, subjects of work, power factors and economic factors) necessitates great knowledge, competence and skills, as well as the right organisational culture and philosophy. These factors constitute the basic elements of human capital. Mutual dependency of these factors results in the need of proper management of planning, organisation and motivation as well as of controlling human capital. Business practice confirms the need of developing basic organisational features that would result in creating a unique corporate image. It turns out that an individual character of a company facilitates its winning competitive advantage. Shaping the basic variables in corporate resources enables one to identify technical, organisational, economic and social features. Creating an individual character of a company on the basis of primary material resources rarely brings the desired effect. The material character of technical, organisational and economic resources is a feature that may be easily copied by competitors. Among the distinguished features, only human capital may thus decide on the individual character of a company.human capital, intellectual capital

Nowadays cost reduction is a fundamental strategy used in companies during fighting for survival, keeping or increase in sales levels and profits. More and more often observed tendency to concentrate commercial and production companies leads to rise of demand for outsourcing in a reverse logistics chain. In the paper Authors present concept of outsourcing in logistics processes, advantages of outsourcing in reverse logistics and types of relations between outsourcing partners as well as areas and stages of collaboration: engagement, improvement and communication

Facility layout redesign for efficiency improvement and cost reduction

In a competitive market the manufacturing companies have to produce cost effective products which can be realized by minimized production cost and higher effectiveness. The effective facility planning can significantly reduce the operational costs of companies. An adequate facility layout can result in the improvement of the performance of the production line. The Facility Layout Problem (FLP) is relating to location of objects (departments, workstations, machines, etc.) on a given site and the material flow between these objects. The goal of this study is to show the reasons, objectives and steps of a layout redesign process. The minimization of the workflow realized on the shop floor is an often applied an objective function during the layout redesign. Material flow efficiency is a commonly used term for the determination of the amount of workflow, which is the multiplication of material flow data and distance data. In this study, this mathematical method for workflow calculation is introduced. The described case study shows how the efficiency and reduced manufacturing cost of a real manufacturing system can be improved by re-layout design, while smaller floor space is needed for the production

Environmental Sustainability and Freight Transport Performance in the EU – An Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity (ARCH) Model Analysis

Transportation, which is a significant facilitator of global trade and development, faces a serious problem with respect to sustainability. Firstly, there is the need to minimise greenhouse gas emissions while maintaining profitability and social responsibility. Transportation will be totally decarbonised by consistently moving towards a more sustainable, diverse and resilient range of transportation modes with advanced vehicle technologies. However, what impact this will have on the economic performance of transport service providers remains a big question. The aim of this study is to examine the short-run relationship between environmental sustainability in road freight transportation and the economic performance of the road freight transport sector in the European Union using an autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity (ARCH) model. The analysis was conducted using annual data spanning from 2008 to 2021. The results indicate that energy taxes on transport and storage, biodiesel consumption and vehicle capacity utilisation have a positive and significant impact on freight transport performance (FTP). The findings suggest that policymakers could use energy taxes and incentives to promote the use of biodiesel in the transportation sector to increase FTP. Additionally, efforts to improve vehicle capacity utilisation could significantly increase FTP and have positive environmental implications such as reducing traffic congestion and emissions

Cost Structure in Relation to the Size of Road Transport Enterprises

The problem of cost management in road transport enterprises is one of the most crucial ones for their efficient functioning. The enterprises functioning on the market are very different so it is important to analyse their costs structure in relation to their size. The author provides a discussion on road transport costs identification and problems related to it. The considerations are based on the background of road transport importance in transport services in Poland and chosen European Union countries. Then, the research methodology consisting of elaborated questionnaire and the research sample are defined with special attention to the company size. The author provides research results on the costs structure in road transport enterprises in southern Poland and presents their components and differences. The author noticed the differences in costs structure in relation to the company size with domination of employment costs in micro and small road transport enterprises and costs of fuel in larger companies that result from better resource management

Platform Entrepreneurship: An Interpretative Structural Modeling

    Get PDF
Purpose: Popularity of social media and their power to connect media enterprises to wide range of audiences have made platforms as a popular business models for media entrepreneurs’ activities. Due to increasing number of entrepreneurial activities in platforms, this study aims to identify the critical factors of platform entrepreneurship. Methodology: This study followed a qualitative approach and used ISM methodology for comparing the variables that are extracted from the literature and confirmed by the experts. A questionnaire developed and distributed to a limited sample of experts in platform business and social networks to compare nine identified factors. Findings/Contribution: The findings showed that eight factors of opportunity, influencers, UX/UI, Strategic partners, resource control, platform governance, technical features and target audiences are the strategic factors in development of media entrepreneurship. Regulatory environment recognized as dependent variable that determine the success of media entrepreneurship in platforms. Implications: This study provides a foundation for future research in the subject of media entrepreneurship on social media as well as media platform businesses. Policy makers can use the results of this study to understand the determining role of regulatory environment in promotion of media entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurs and owners of platform can use this research to use the identified factors in design and development of their media platform businesses
