Delocalization and wave-packet dynamics in one-dimensional diluted Anderson models
We study the nature of one-electron eigen-states in a one-dimensional diluted
Anderson model where every Anderson impurity is diluted by a periodic function
. Using renormalization group and transfer matrix techniques, we provide
accurate estimates of the extended states which appear in this model, whose
number depends on the symmetry of the diluting function . The density of
states (DOS) for this model is also numerically obtained and its main features
are related to the symmetries of the diluting function . Further, we show
that the emergence of extended states promotes a sub-diffusive spread of an

Disorder Induced Localized States in Graphene
We consider the electronic structure near vacancies in the half-filled
honeycomb lattice. It is shown that vacancies induce the formation of localized
states. When particle-hole symmetry is broken, localized states become
resonances close to the Fermi level. We also study the problem of a finite
density of vacancies, obtaining the electronic density of states, and
discussing the issue of electronic localization in these systems. Our results

Localized states at zigzag edges of bilayer graphene
We report the existence of zero energy surface states localized at zigzag
edges of bilayer graphene. Working within the tight-binding approximation we
derive the analytic solution for the wavefunctions of these peculiar surface
states. It is shown that zero energy edge states in bilayer graphene can be
divided into two families: (i) states living only on a single plane, equivalent
to surface states in monolayer graphene; (ii) states with finite amplitude over
the two layers, with an enhanced penetration into the bulk. The bulk and
surface (edge) electronic structure of bilayer graphene nanoribbons is also
studied, both in the absence and in the presence of a bias voltage between

Dynamical control of electron spin coherence in a quantum dot
We investigate the performance of dynamical decoupling methods at suppressing
electron spin decoherence from a low-temperature nuclear spin reservoir in a
quantum dot. The controlled dynamics is studied through exact numerical
simulation, with emphasis on realistic pulse delays and long-time limit. Our
results show that optimal performance for this system is attained by a periodic
protocol exploiting concatenated design, with control rates substantially
slower than expected from the upper spectral cutoff of the bath. For a known
initial electron spin state, coherence can saturate at long times, signaling
the creation of a stable ``spin-locked'' decoherence-free subspace. Analytical
insight on saturation is obtained for a simple echo protocol, in good agreement

Photonic superdiffusive motion in resonance line radiation trapping - partial frequency redistribution effects
The relation between the jump length probability distribution function and
the spectral line profile in resonance atomic radiation trapping is considered
for Partial Frequency Redistribution (PFR) between absorbed and reemitted
radiation. The single line Opacity Distribution Function [M.N. Berberan-Santos
et.al. J.Chem.Phys. 125, 174308 (2006)] is generalized for PFR and used to
discuss several possible redistribution mechanisms (pure Doppler broadening,
combined natural and Doppler broadening and combined Doppler, natural and
collisional broadening). It is shown that there are two coexisting scales with
a different behavior: the small scale is controlled by the intricate PFR
details while the large scale is essentially given by the atom rest frame
redistribution asymptotic. The pure Doppler and combined natural, Doppler and
collisional broadening are characterized by both small and large scale
superdiffusive Levy flight behaviors while the combined natural and Doppler
case has an anomalous small scale behavior but a diffusive large scale
asymptotic. The common practice of assuming complete redistribution in core
radiation and frequency coherence in the wings of the spectral distribution is
incompatible with the breakdown of superdiffusion in combined natural and
Doppler broadening conditions

A model of maxilla resection to test new hybrid implants:macroporous titanium and tissue engineering elements
Maxillary bone loss in commonly found in humans, due to bone ageing, tooth loos, periodontal disease and, more severely, to trauma, radiotherapy and tumor resection. Masillofacial reconstructive surgery is a still unmet clinical demand, available therapies include grafting of autologous or heterologous bone tissue and/or the implantation of metallic plates, buy these treatments are still unable to resume form and function. The emrgence of 3D-printing technology applied to metal alloys now allows the manufacturing of customized, patient-tailored prosthetic implants. However, poor bone quiality at the implant site due to ageing or disease still hamper proper osseointegration. By combining Electron Beam Melting metal sintering and tissue engineering, we are developing hybrid maxillofacial implants, wher a metal framework of Ti6Al4V alloy confers both and appropiaate shape and mechanical stabilty, while stem cells and osteogenic molecules stimulate bone growth into the metal framework, thus pormoting osseointegration. We hereby present the in vitro work driving to the development of our hybrid maxillofacial prostheses, as well as the setting up of an in vivo model of complete maxilla full resection, created in order to test the prostheses in a preclinical studyUniversidad de Málaga.
