The hierarchy problem, radion mass, localization of gravity and 4D effective Newtonian potential in string theory on S1/Z2S^{1}/Z_{2}

We present a systematical study of brane worlds in string theory on $S^{1}/Z_{2}$. Starting with the toroidal compactification of the NS/NS sector in (D+d) dimensions, we first obtain an effective $D$-dimensional action, and then compactify one of the $(D-1)$ spatial dimensions by introducing two orbifold branes as its boundaries. By combining the Gauss-Codacci and Lanczos equations, we write down explicitly the general gravitational field equations on each of the two branes, while using distribution theory we express the matter field equations on the branes in terms of the discontinuities of the first derivatives of the matter fields. Afterwards, we address three important issues: (i) the hierarchy problem; (ii) the radion mass; and (iii) the localization of gravity, the 4-dimensional Newtonian effective potential and the Yukawa corrections due to the gravitational high-order Kaluza-Klein (KK) modes. With a very conservative estimation, we find that the radion mass is of the order of $10^{-2} GeV$. The gravity is localized on the visible brane, and the spectrum of the gravitational KK modes is discrete and can be of the order of TeV. The corrections to the 4-dimensional Newtonian potential from the higher order of gravitational KK modes are exponentially suppressed and can be safely neglected in current experiments. Comportamento de Panicum maximum cv. Tanzânia sob diferentes graus de estresse híbrico.

A água é um dos principais fatores limitantes ao desenvolvrmento de plantas forrageiras em pastagens. O objetivo desse trabalho foi avaliar a resposta do capim-tanzânia ao estresse hídrico. O experimento foi conduzido em casa-de-vegetação na Embrapa Pecuária Sudeste. Foram avaliados três níveis de disponibilidade de água (100, 60 e 30% do total de água disponível do solo) e três períodos de estresse (5, 10 e 15 dias) em uma delineamento em blocos completos ao acaso com arranjo fato ria! e três repetições. O capim-tanzânia apresenta mecanismos de adaptação ao estresse hídrico moderado em curtos períodos de tempo, reduzindo principalmente o desenvolvimento de folhas. A cultura sofre redução acentuada da massa seca quando submetida a estresse hídrico severo e prolongado. Length-weight relationships of four freshwater ornamental fish species from the Brazilian Negro River basin.

The present work reports the length?weight relationships (LWR) for four ornamental fish species from the middle Negro River basin, Amazonas, Brazil. The r2 value ranged from 0.810 to 0.941 and values of b varied from 2.346 to 3.442. These results represent the first reference on LWR for all four species, based on FishBase

Incompatibilidade de laranjeira doce 'Pera CNPMF D-6' enxertada em 11 porta-enxertos.

O Estado da Bahia é o 2º produtor nacional de laranja, com 55.755 ha e 906 mil toneladas de frutos. Praticamente toda a produção corresponde à laranjeira 'Pera' clone CNPMF D-6 [Citrus sinensis (L.)
