Radiative Corrections to Double Dalitz Decays: Effects on Invariant Mass Distributions and Angular Correlations
We review the theory of meson decays to two lepton pairs, including the cases
of identical as well as non-identical leptons, as well as CP-conserving and
CP-violating couplings. A complete lowest-order calculation of QED radiative
corrections to these decays is discussed, and comparisons of predicted rates
and kinematic distributions between tree-level and one-loop-corrected
calculations are presented for both pi-zero and K-zero decays.Comment: 25 pages, 18 figures, added figures and commentar
Flavor Production in Pb(160AGeV) on Pb Collisions: Effect of Color Ropes and Hadronic Rescattering
Collective interactions in the preequilibrium quark matter and hadronic
resonance gas stage of ultrarelativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions are studied
in the framework of the the transport theoretical approach RQMD. The paper
reviews string fusion into color ropes and hadronic rescattering which serve as
models for these interactions. Hadron production in central Pb(160AGeV) on Pb
collisions has been calculated. The changes of the final flavor composition are
more pronounced than in previous RQMD studies of light ion induced reactions at
200AGeV. The ratio of created quark pairs /(+) is
enhanced by a factor of 2.4 in comparison to results. Color rope formation
increases the initially produced antibaryons to 3 times the value in the `NN
mode', but only one quarter of the produced antibaryons survives because of
subsequent strong absorption. The differences in the final particle composition
for Pb on Pb collisions compared to S induced reactions are attributed to the
hadronic resonance gas stage which is baryon-richer and lasts longer.Comment: 60 pages + 11 postscript figures (uuencoded and included

Neutrino production of ''new'' particles in bubble chambers
Some results from the study of neutrino interactions above 1 GeV are summarized which are relevant to the utility of such investigations for unearthing new phenomena. The variety of experimental searches and their relevance, bubble chamber techniques, review of the Glashow--Iliopoulos--Maiani model predictions for leptonic decay, and some experimental results for charmed and strange particle phenomena, di-lepton results, nonleptonic decay of charm, evidence for D/sup 0/ production, and heavy leptons are discussed. THE PARITY OF THE NEUTRAL PION AND THE DECAY pi{sup 0} Yields 2e{sup +} + 2e{sup -}
Two hundred and six electronic decays of the pi{sup 0}, pi{sup 0} yields e{sup +} + e{sup -} + e{sup +} + e{sup -}, were observed in a hydrogen bubble chamber. The decay distributions of the electron pairs and the total rate for this process are shown to be in good agreement with theory. An examination of correlations of the e{sup +}e{sup -} pair decay planes on the basis of electrodynamic predictions is in agreement with the hypothesis that the pi{sup 0} is pseudoscalar, but disagrees for scalar pions by 3.6 standard deviations. Limits on likesign dilepton production in nu/sub. mu. / interactions
We have searched for the production of likesign dilepton events (nu/sub ..mu../ + Ne ..-->.. ..mu../sup -/ + e/sup -/ + ...) in a wideband neutrino beam at FNAL using the 15' bubble chamber. We observe no signal above the background arising from conventional sources. We set 90% confidence level upper limits for the production rates of (nu/sub ..mu../ + Ne ..-->.. ..mu../sup -/ + e/sup -/ + ...)/(nu/sub ..mu../ + Ne ..-->.. ..mu../sup -/ + ...) less than or equal to 8 * 10/sup -5/ and (nu/sub ..mu../ + Ne ..-->.. ..mu../sup -/ + e/sup -/ + ...)/(nu/sub ..mu../ + Ne ..-->.. ..mu../sup -/ + e/sup +/ + ...) less than or equal to 6 * 10/sup -2/
