    Experimental observation of two-dimensional fluctuation magnetization in the vicinity of T_c for low values of the magnetic field in deoxygenated YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x}

    We measured isofield magnetization curves as a function of temperature in two single crystal of deoxygenated YBaCuO with T_c = 52 and 41.5 K. Isofield MvsT were obtained for fields running from 0.05 to 4 kOe. The reversible region of the magnetization curves was analyzed in terms of a scaling proposed by Prange, but searching for the best exponent Ï…\upsilon. The scaling analysis carried out for each data sample set with Ï…\upsilon=0.669, which corresponds to the 3D-xy exponent, did not produced a collapsing of curves when applied to MvsT curves data obtained for the lowest fields. The resulting analysis for the Y123 crystal with T_c = 41.5 K, shows that lower field curves collapse over the entire reversible region following the Prange's scaling with Ï…\upsilon=1, suggesting a two-dimensional behavior. It is shown that the same data obeying the Prange's scaling with Ï…\upsilon=1 for crystal with T_c = 41.5 K, as well low field data for crystal with TcT_c = 52 K, obey the known two-dimensional scaling law obtained in the lowest-Landau-level approximation.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure

    A comparative study of high-field diamagnetic fluctuations in deoxygenated YBa2Cu3O(7-x) and polycrystalline (Bi-Pb)2Sr2Ca3O(10)

    We studied three single crystals of YBa2Cu3O{7-x} with Tc= 62.5, 52, and 41 K, and a textured specimen of (Bi-Pb)2Sr2Ca2Cu3O10 with Tc=108 K, for H//c axis. The reversible data were interpreted in terms of 2D lowest-Landau-level fluctuation theory. The data were fit well by the 2D LLL expression for magnetization obtained by Tesanovic etal., producing reasonable values of kappa but larger values of dHc2/dT. Universality was studied by obtaining a simultaneous scaling of Y123 data and Bi2223. An expression for the 2D x-axis LLL scaling factor used to obtain the simultaneous scaling was extracted from theory, and compared with the experimental values. The comparison between the values of the x-axis produced a deviation of 40% which suggests that the hypothesis of universality of the 2D-LLL fluctuations is not supported by the studied samples. We finaly observe that Y123 magnetization data for temperatures above TcT_c obbey a universal scaling obtained for the diamagnetic fluctuation magnetization from a theory considering non-local field effects. The same scaling was not obbeyed by the corresponding magnetization calculated from the two-dimensional lowest-Landau-level theory.Comment: 7 pages 5 figures, accept in Journ. Low Temp. Phy

    We have performed a magnetic study of a bulk metallic sample of Nb with critical temperature Tc=8.5T_{c}=8.5 K. Magnetization versus temperature (M {\it vs} T) data obtained for fixed magnetic fields above 1 kOe show a superconducting transition which becomes broader as the field is increased. The data are interpreted in terms of the diamagnetic lowest Landau level (LLL) fluctuation theory. The scaling analysis gives values of the superconducting transition temperature Tc(H)T_{c}(H) consistent with Hc2(T)H_{c2}(T)% . We search for universal 3D LLL behavior by comparing scaling results for Nb and YBaCuO, but obtain no evidence for universality.Comment: 5 pages, 6 figures, Accepted for publication in Phys.Rev.

    Double Time Window Targeting Technique: Real time DMRG dynamics in the PPP model

    We present a generalized adaptive time-dependent density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) scheme, called the {\it double time window targeting} (DTWT) technique, which gives accurate results with nominal computational resources, within reasonable computational time. This procedure originates from the amalgamation of the features of pace keeping DMRG algorithm, first proposed by Luo {\it et. al}, [Phys.Rev. Lett. {\bf 91}, 049701 (2003)], and the time-step targeting (TST) algorithm by Feiguin and White [Phys. Rev. B {\bf 72}, 020404 (2005)]. Using the DTWT technique, we study the phenomena of spin-charge separation in conjugated polymers (materials for molecular electronics and spintronics), which have long-range electron-electron interactions and belong to the class of strongly correlated low-dimensional many-body systems. The issue of real time dynamics within the Pariser-Parr-Pople (PPP) model which includes long-range electron correlations has not been addressed in the literature so far. The present study on PPP chains has revealed that, (i) long-range electron correlations enable both the charge and spin degree of freedom of the electron, to propagate faster in the PPP model compared to Hubbard model, (ii) for standard parameters of the PPP model as applied to conjugated polymers, the charge velocity is almost twice that of the spin velocity and, (iii) the simplistic interpretation of long-range correlations by merely renormalizing the {\it U} value of the Hubbard model fails to explain the dynamics of doped holes/electrons in the PPP model.Comment: Final (published) version; 39 pages, 13 figures, 1 table; 2 new references adde

    Decomposition of Additive-Free Formic Acid Using a Pd/C Catalyst in Flow: Experimental and CFD Modelling Studies

    The use of hydrogen as a renewable fuel has gained increasing attention in recent years due to its abundance and efficiency. The decomposition of formic acid for hydrogen production under mild conditions of 30 °C has been investigated using a 5 wt.% Pd/C catalyst and a fixed bed microreactor. Furthermore, a comprehensive heterogeneous computational fluid dynamic (CFD) model has been developed to validate the experimental data. The results showed a very good agreement between the CFD studies and experimental work. Catalyst reusability studies have shown that after 10 reactivation processes, the activity of the catalyst can be restored to offer the same level of activity as the fresh sample of the catalyst. The CFD model was able to simulate the catalyst deactivation based on the production of the poisoning species CO, and a sound validation was obtained with the experimental data. Further studies demonstrated that the conversion of formic acid enhances with increasing temperature and decreasing liquid flow rate. Moreover, the CFD model established that the reaction system was devoid of any internal and external mass transfer limitations. The model developed can be used to successfully predict the decomposition of formic acid in microreactors for potential fuel cell applications

    Exploring Exchange Interactions in Two-Qubit System

    We studied the effect of magnetic field and interdot distance on the exchange interaction in two systems of double qubits, one made of Si and the other made of GaAs. We found that the effect is the same for both systems, but the exchange value for Si qubits is smaller due to the larger effective mass of electrons. This study provides insights into the exchange interaction, which is essential for the development of quantum computers

    Fungitoxicity of some fungicides against to pathogens responsible of olive trees decline in the Chebika’s area in Tunisia

    The incidence of the disease seems very important on young trees and tends to bemoderate with the aging of the tree. In fact, olive trees have a shallow root system and arestill vulnerable to pathogens especially the irrigated varieties. Chemical and biological control against Fusarium solani, Fusarium oxysporum, Rhizoctonia solani and Verticillium dahliae have revealed that the application in vitro of Prodazim and of Methyl-thiophanatehave showed a very good efficacy up to 100%. Ridomil and Tachigaren have indicated aregular efficiency, while the two bio-fungicides Fungstop and the compost juice havedemonstrated a low efficiency. The two bio-control agents Trichoderma harzianum and Gliocladium virens have showed a relatively high effectiveness in vitro. In vivo, obtainedresults have revealed that the nature of the product, the doses applied and the condition ofthe olive trees are highly correlated factors. The treatment doesn’t appear to have apositive effect on the beginning of stage 1 and on plots presented a good structured soil.Going beyond this stage, whatever the product and the doses used, the attack isirreversible
