Survey of Seepage Through Heightened Earthfill Dam With High-density Electrical Prospecting Method
High-density electrical prospecting was conducted on a heightened earthfill darn during the first filling of the reservoir to study the possibility of applying this prospecting method to examination of zoned structures inside an embankment darn and monitoring of seepage through the dam body. Visual Inspection and measurement with the measuring devices were also conducted to control the safety of the dam. As a result, it was found that zoned structures inside the dam such as a newly built embankment, an existing embankment, and drain are zones each having a different resistivity value. In addition, since the area where the resistivity inside the darn body changed with the impounding almost coincided with the area where pore water pressure changed, the seepage area is an area where the resistivity changed
Consideration of morality concerning "communication of the heart" : Effects of Presentation Software in Teacher Training Course Effects of Morality on Conversation Students' Conversation Form
Remarkable Weight Reduction for Low Carbohydrate Diet (LCD) : Case Report
Background: There have been discussion for years concerning Calorie Restriction (CR) and low carbohydrate diet (LCD). As to LCD, we have reported clinical experience and research for glucose variability and ketone bodies.
Case and results: The patient was 41 yo man with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). His data includes height 186 cm, BMI 31.2, fasting blood glucose 151 mg/dL, HbA1c 9.4%. He was on super LCD diet with 12% of carbohydrate, and has continued aerobics exercise and muscle training. Average glucose level on day 2,4 and 10 was 161 mg/dL, 117 mg/dL and 102 mg/dL, respectively. Body weight decreased from 107 kg to 100 kg in 4 weeks. As ketone body, 3-hydroxybutyric acid (3-OHBA) was elevated to 2350 μmol/L (-85). Lipid profiles from day 2 to day 28 showed that Triglyceride 215 to 46, HDL 32 to 44, LDL 89 to 93.
Discussion and conclusion: Authors have proposed 3 types of LCD so far, which are petit, standard and super, with 12%, 26%, 40% of carbohydrate ratio. Continuing super-LCD usually brings elevated ketone bodies and significant weight reduction. As for successful result, influenced factors would be application of super LCD, aerobics and anaerobic exercise, understanding and adequate continuation, adequate support of co-medicals
Investigation for waist circumference (WC), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) and thigh-to-waist ratio (TWaR) in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM)
The purpose of this study was to investigate anthropometric factors for the patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). Subjects were 80 T2DM patients with 67.7 ± 12.9 years old. Methods included basal blood test including HbA1c and measured height, body weight, waist circumference (WC) and thigh circumference (TC). Several factors were calculated and investigated the correlation among Body Mass Index (BMI), HbA1c. WC, TC, Waist to Height ratio (WHtR), Thigh to Height ratio (THtR) and Thigh to Waist ratio (TWaR). Results were as follows: 1) Average BMI was 25.1 kg/m2 and average HbA1c was 7.2%, 2). There was significant correlation between WC and TC (p<0.01). 3) Significant correlations were revealed between BMI and WC, WHtR, THtR. 4)Similarly, between HbA1c and WC and WHtR. 5) Negative significant correlation was shown between HbA1c and TWaR with the Coefficient -0.25 and p=0.26. WC and TC might indicate central adiposity and muscle volume, respectively, suggesting that TWaR could become the fundamental data and the possible utilization of TWaR on the clinical research in the future
The effect of acotiamide on epigastric pain syndrome and postprandial distress syndrome in patients with functional dyspepsia
The effect of acotiamide on gastrointestinal symptoms is undefined. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of acotiamide on abdominal symptoms in patients with functional dyspepsia. We retrospectively reviewed 51 patients treated with acotiamide. We evaluated patient quality of life using the Izumo scale that detects changes in quality of life caused by abdominal symptoms. Acotiamide ameliorated the symptoms of functional dyspepsia at one and three months (improved : 61% vs 80%, p=0.029 and resolved : 17% vs 33%, p=0.069). We then evaluated the effect of acotiamide on epigastric pain syndrome (EPS) (n=33) and postprandial distress syndrome (PDS) (n=41). Acotiamide treatment showed an early effect on rates of improvement (63%) and resolution (42%) of EPS symptoms at one month, maintained up to three months (69% and 39%, respectively). Both rates of improvement and resolution of PDS symptoms showed a significant increase from one month to three months (56% vs 78%, p=0.021 and 17% vs 46%, p=0.004, respectively). The severity of functional dyspepsia symptoms before treatment was significantly associated with failed resolution of functional dyspepsia symptoms (p=0.013). Acotiamide improves and resolves EPS symptoms as well as PDS symptoms. PDS symptoms take longer to resolve than EPS symptoms
Induction of inverted morphology in brain organoids by vertical-mixing bioreactors
上下動撹拌培養装置を用いた流体制御により誘導した反転型脳オルガノイド 脳オルガノイド誘導の流体シミュレーションと流体力学的理解. 京都大学プレスリリース. 2021-10-27.How you mix cells changes the brain. 京都大学プレスリリース. 2021-10-28.Organoid technology provides an opportunity to generate brain-like structures by recapitulating developmental steps in the manner of self-organization. Here we examined the vertical-mixing effect on brain organoid structures using bioreactors and established inverted brain organoids. The organoids generated by vertical mixing showed neurons that migrated from the outer periphery to the inner core of organoids, in contrast to orbital mixing. Computational analysis of flow dynamics clarified that, by comparison with orbital mixing, vertical mixing maintained the high turbulent energy around organoids, and continuously kept inter-organoid distances by dispersing and adding uniform rheological force on organoids. To uncover the mechanisms of the inverted structure, we investigated the direction of primary cilia, a cellular mechanosensor. Primary cilia of neural progenitors by vertical mixing were aligned in a multidirectional manner, and those by orbital mixing in a bidirectional manner. Single-cell RNA sequencing revealed that neurons of inverted brain organoids presented a GABAergic character of the ventral forebrain. These results suggest that controlling fluid dynamics by biomechanical engineering can direct stem cell differentiation of brain organoids, and that inverted brain organoids will be applicable for studying human brain development and disorders in the future
