    Right pulmonary artery agenesis presenting with uncontrolled asthma in an adult: a case report

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Introduction</p> <p>Unilateral absence of the pulmonary artery (UAPA) or pulmonary artery agenesis is a rare congenital disorder presenting with a wide spectrum of symptoms. The clinical presentation is variable and many patients can be asymptomatic for many years and even throughout their lives.</p> <p>Case presentation</p> <p>We report the case of a 53-year-old African-American woman who was diagnosed with right pulmonary artery agenesis after presenting with uncontrolled asthma and recurrent bronchopulmonary infections.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>In an unexplained case of recurrent respiratory infections and shortness of breath, the possibility of a rare congenital anomaly like UAPA should be considered and an appropriate evaluation should be done.</p

    Profile of Co-morbidities in the Obese

    Objective: To study the profile of co-morbidities in obese patients reporting for bariatric surgical procedures. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted at the Bariatric Surgery Unit of Department of Surgery of the College of Medicine, Qassim University, Saudi Arabia. The records of all the obese patients (with Body Mass Index greater than 30), evaluated in the department over the period of two years from Jan 2012 to Dec 2014, were studied and co-morbidities were sought in all subjects. Results: Of the 172 subjects, 76.2% (n=131) were female and 23.8% (n=41) male. The age ranged from 17–49 years (Mean 29.9 years; Mode 28 years). The weight ranged from 82 kg–146kg and BMI ranged from 33–54 (mean BMI 44.7 kg/m). Out of the total of 172 patients, 96 (56 %) including 72 females and 24 males had one or more co-morbidities. Conclusion: A wide range of co-morbidities occur in obese patients that have the potential to decrease the quality of life and the life span

    Introduction: Tumors of hand are uncommon entities. Giant Cell Tumour of Tendon Sheath (GCTTS) is the second most common soft tissue tumour, next only to ganglion cysts.Method and Result: We report two cases of giant cell tumours of tendon sheath. One arose from the flexor tendon in the palm of a 22 years old female and the second was a recurrence of a digital giant cell tumour.
