Multipartite entanglement for entanglement teleportation
The scheme for entanglement teleportation is proposed to incorporate
multipartite entanglement of four qubits as a quantum channel. Based on the
invariance of entanglement teleportation under arbitrary two-qubit unitary
transformation, we derive relations of separabilities for joint measurements at
a sending station and for unitary operations at a receiving station. From the
relations of separabilities it is found that an inseparable quantum channel
always leads to a total teleportation of entanglement with an inseparable joint
measurement and/or a nonlocal unitary operation.Comment: slightly modifie
Muon-Spin Rotation Spectra in the Mixed Phase of High-T_c Superconductors : Thermal Fluctuations and Disorder Effects
We study muon-spin rotation (muSR) spectra in the mixed phase of highly
anisotropic layered superconductors, specifically Bi_2+xSr_2-xCaCu_2O_8+delta
(BSCCO), by modeling the fluid and solid phases of pancake vortices using
liquid-state and density functional methods. The role of thermal fluctuations
in causing motional narrowing of muSR lineshapes is quantified in terms of a
first-principles theory of the flux-lattice melting transition. The effects of
random point pinning are investigated using a replica treatment of liquid state
correlations and a replicated density functional theory. Our results indicate
that motional narrowing in the pure system, although substantial, cannot
account for the remarkably small linewidths obtained experimentally at
relatively high fields and low temperatures. We find that satisfactory
agreement with the muSR data for BSCCO in this regime can be obtained through
the ansatz that this ``phase'' is characterized by frozen short-range
positional correlations reflecting the structure of the liquid just above the
melting transition. This proposal is consistent with recent suggestions of a
``pinned liquid'' or ``glassy'' state of pancake vortices in the presence of
pinning disorder. Our results for the high-temperature liquid phase indicate
that measurable linewidths may be obtained in this phase as a consequence of
density inhomogeneities induced by the pinning disorder. The results presented
here comprise a unified, first-principles theoretical treatment of muSR spectra
in highly anisotropic layered superconductors in terms of a controlled set of
approximations.Comment: 50 pages Latex file, including 10 postscript figure
Don't touch: Developmental trajectories of toddlers' behavioral regulation related to older siblings' behaviors and parental discipline
Behavioral regulation is one of the key developmental skills children acquire during early childhood. Previous research has focused primarily on the role of parents as socializing agents in this process, yet it is likely that older siblings also are influential given the numerous daily interactions between siblings. This exploratory longitudinal study investigated developmental heterogeneity in behavioral regulation during toddlerhood and the early preschool years (18 to 36 months) and relations with older siblings' control and behavioral regulation while taking into account parental discipline. Toddlers were visited at home at 18, 24, and 36 months and observed during a gift-delay task with their older sibling in 93 families. Behavioral regulation of both siblings and gentle and harsh control of the older sibling were coded during the sibling gift-delay task, which was validated using parent-reports of toddlers' internalized conduct. Analyses revealed five distinct developmental trajectories among toddlers' behavioral regulation, revealing different patterns of developmental multifinality and equifinality. Older siblings' harsh control and parental discipline differed across toddler trajectory groups. Older siblings' behaviors covaried with the toddlers' behavioral regulation suggesting that older siblings may be acting as models for younger siblings, as well as disciplining and teaching toddlers to resist temptation.Education and Child Studie
Magnetic Phase Diagram of GdNi2B2C: Two-ion Magnetoelasticity and Anisotropic Exchange Couplings
Extensive magnetization and magnetostriction measurements were carried out on
a single crystal of GdNi2B2C along the main tetragonal axes. Within the
paramagnetic phase, the magnetic and strain susceptibilities revealed a weak
anisotropy in the exchange couplings and two-ion tetragonal-preserving
alpha-strain modes. Within the ordered phase, magnetization and
magnetostriction revealed a relatively strong orthorhombic distortion mode and
rich field-temperature phase diagrams. For H//(100) phase diagram, three
field-induced transformations were observed, namely, at: Hd(T), related to the
domain alignment; Hr(T), associated with reorientation of the moment towards
the c-axis; and Hs(T), defining the saturation process wherein the exchange
field is completely counterbalanced. On the other hand, For H//(001) phase
diagram, only two field-induced transformations were observed, namely at: Hr(T)
and Hs(T). For both phase diagrams, Hs(T) follows the relation
Hs[1-(T/Tn)^2]^(1/2)kOe with Hs(T-->0)=128.5(5) kOe and Tn(H=0)=19.5 K. In
contrast, the thermal evolution of Hr(T) along the c-axis (much simpler than
along the a-axis) follows the relation Hr[1-T/Tr]^(1/3) kOe where
Hr(T-->0)=33.5(5) kOe and Tr(H=0)=13.5 K. It is emphasized that the
magnetoelastic interaction and the anisotropic exchange coupling are important
perturbations and therefore should be explicitly considered if a complete
analysis of the magnetic properties of the borocarbides is desired
Quantum Ferromagnetism and Phase Transitions in Double-Layer Quantum Hall Systems
Double layer quantum Hall systems have interesting properties associated with
interlayer correlations. At where is an odd integer they exhibit
spontaneous symmetry breaking equivalent to that of spin easy-plane
ferromagnets, with the layer degree of freedom playing the role of spin. We
explore the rich variety of quantum and finite temperature phase transitions in
these systems. In particular, we show that a magnetic field oriented parallel
to the layers induces a highly collective commensurate-incommensurate phase
transition in the magnetic order.Comment: 4 pages, REVTEX 3.0, IUCM93-013, 1 FIGURE, hardcopy available from:

Four Light Neutrinos in Singular Seesaw Mechanism with Abelian Flavor Symmetry
The four light neutrino scenario, which explains the atmosphere, solar and
LSND neutrino experiments, is studied in the framework of the seesaw mechanism.
By taking both the Dirac and Majorana mass matrix of neutrinos to be singular,
the four neutrino mass spectrum consisting of two almost degenerate pairs
separated by a mass gap eV is naturally generated. Moreover the
right-handed neutrino Majorana mass can be at GeV scale unlike
in the usual singular seesaw mechanism. Abelian flavor symmetry is used to
produce the required neutrino mass pattern. A specific example of the flavor
charge assignment is provided to show that maximal mixings between the
and are respectively attributed to the
atmosphere and solar neutrino anomalies while small mixing between two pairs to
the LSND results. The implication in the other fermion masses is also
discussed.Comment: Firnal version to appear in PR
Homodyne Bell's inequalities for entangled mesoscopic superpositions
We present a scheme for demonstrating violation of Bell's inequalities using
a spin-1/2 system entangled with a pair of classically distinguishable wave
packets in a harmonic potential. In the optical domain, such wave packets can
be represented by coherent states of a single light mode. The proposed scheme
involves standard spin-1/2 projections and measurements of the position and the
momentum of the harmonic oscillator system, which for a light mode can be
realized by means of homodyne detection. We discuss effects of imperfections,
including non-unit efficiency of the homodyne detector, and point out a close
link between the visibility of interference and violation of Bell's
inequalities in the described scheme.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures. Extended version, journal reference adde
Skyrmion Excitations in Quantum Hall Systems
Using finite size calculations on the surface of a sphere we study the
topological (skyrmion) excitation in quantum Hall system with spin degree of
freedom at filling factors around . In the absence of Zeeman energy, we
find, in systems with one quasi-particle or one quasi-hole, the lowest energy
band consists of states with , where and are the total orbital and
spin angular momentum. These different spin states are almost degenerate in the
thermodynamic limit and their symmetry-breaking ground state is the state with
one skyrmion of infinite size. In the presence of Zeeman energy, the skyrmion
size is determined by the interplay of the Zeeman energy and electron-electron
interaction and the skyrmion shrinks to a spin texture of finite size. We have
calculated the energy gap of the system at infinite wave vector limit as a
function of the Zeeman energy and find there are kinks in the energy gap
associated with the shrinking of the size of the skyrmion. breaking ground
state is the state with one skyrmion of infinite size. In the presence of
Zeeman energy, the skyrmion size is determined by the interplay of the Zeeman
energy and electron-electronComment: 4 pages, 5 postscript figures available upon reques
Conditional generation of N-photon entangled states of light
We propose a scheme for conditional generation of two-mode N-photon
path-entangled states of traveling light field. These states may find
applications in quantum optical lithography and they may be used to improve the
sensitivity of interferometric measurements. Our method requires only
single-photon sources, linear optics (beam splitters and phase shifters), and
photodetectors with single photon sensitivity.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, RevTeX
