    Atiyah-Hitchin M-Branes

We present new M2 and M5 brane solutions in M-theory based on transverse Atiyah-Hitchin space and other self-dual geometries. One novel feature of these solutions is that they have bolt-like fixed points yet still preserve 1/4 of the supersymmetry. All the solutions can be reduced down to ten dimensional intersecting brane configurations.Comment: 18 pages, 5 figures, one paragraph added in the conclusions, typos correcte

    A Journey Between Two Curves

    No full text
A typical solution of an integrable system is described in terms of a holomorphic curve and a line bundle over it. The curve provides the action variables while the time evolution is a linear flow on the curve's Jacobian. Even though the system of Nahm equations is closely related to the Hitchin system, the curves appearing in these two cases have very different nature. The former can be described in terms of some classical scattering problem while the latter provides a solution to some Seiberg-Witten gauge theory. This note identifies the setup in which one can formulate the question of relating the two curves

    Branes, Instantons, And Taub-NUT Spaces

ALE and Taub-NUT (or ALF) hyper-Kahler four-manifolds can be naturally constructed as hyper-Kahler quotients. In the ALE case, this construction has long been understood in terms of D-branes; here we give a D-brane derivation in the Taub-NUT case. Likewise, instantons on ALE spaces and on Taub-NUT spaces have ADHM-like constructions related to hyper-Kahler quotients. Here we refine the analysis in the Taub-NUT case by making use of a D-brane probe, and give an application to M-theory.Comment: 63 p

Moduli Spaces of Instantons on the Taub-NUT Space

We present ADHM-Nahm data for instantons on the Taub-NUT space and encode these data in terms of Bow Diagrams. We study the moduli spaces of the instantons and present these spaces as finite hyperkahler quotients. As an example, we find an explicit expression for the metric on the moduli space of one SU(2) instanton. We motivate our construction by identifying a corresponding string theory brane configuration. By following string theory dualities we are led to supersymmetric gauge theories with impurities.Comment: 26 pages, 7 figure

    Hyperkahler Metrics from Periodic Monopoles

    Get PDF
Relative moduli spaces of periodic monopoles provide novel examples of Asymptotically Locally Flat hyperkahler manifolds. By considering the interactions between well-separated periodic monopoles, we infer the asymptotic behavior of their metrics. When the monopole moduli space is four-dimensional, this construction yields interesting examples of metrics with self-dual curvature (gravitational instantons). We discuss their topology and complex geometry. An alternative construction of these gravitational instantons using moduli spaces of Hitchin equations is also described.Comment: 23 pages, latex. v2: an erroneous formula is corrected, and its derivation is given. v3 (published version): references adde

Linear Sigma Models of H and KK Monopoles

We propose a gauged linear sigma model of k H-monopoles. We also consider the T-dual of this model describing KK-monopoles and clarify the meaning of "winding coordinate" studied recently in hep-th/0507204.Comment: 13 pages, lanlmac; V3:added argument on the nature of disk instanto

New Reducible Five-brane Solutions in M-theory

We construct new M-theory solutions of M5 branes that are a realization of the fully localized ten dimensional NS5/D6 and NS5/D5 brane intersections. These solutions are obtained by embedding self-dual geometries lifted to M-theory. We reduce these solutions down to ten dimensions, obtaining new D-brane systems in type IIA/IIB supergravity. The worldvolume theories of the NS5-branes are new non-local, non-gravitational, six dimensional, T-dual little string theories with eight supersymmetries.Comment: 19 pages, 4 figures, two paragraphs added in conclusions, typos correcte

Supergravity Solution of Intersecting Branes and AdS/CFT with Flavor

We construct the supergravity solution for fully localized D2/D6 intersection. The near horizon limit of this solution is the supergravity dual of supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory in 2+1 dimensions with flavor. We use this solution to formulate mirror symmetry of 2+1 dimensional gauge theories in the language of AdS/CFT correspondence. We also construct the supergravity dual of a non-commutative gauge theory with fundamental matter.Comment: 17 Pages, 2 figures, references added. Minor corrections to eqs (5.3) and (5.4

Higher-Dimensional Twistor Transforms using Pure Spinors

Hughston has shown that projective pure spinors can be used to construct massless solutions in higher dimensions, generalizing the four-dimensional twistor transform of Penrose. In any even (Euclidean) dimension d=2n, projective pure spinors parameterize the coset space SO(2n)/U(n), which is the space of all complex structures on R^{2n}. For d=4 and d=6, these spaces are CP^1 and CP^3, and the appropriate twistor transforms can easily be constructed. In this paper, we show how to construct the twistor transform for d>6 when the pure spinor satisfies nonlinear constraints, and present explicit formulas for solutions of the massless field equations.Comment: 17 pages harvmac tex. Gibbons-Hawking M-branes

We present new M2 and M5-brane solutions in M-theory based on transverse Gibbons-Hawking spaces. These solutions provide realizations of fully localized type IIA D2/D6 and NS5/D6 brane intersections. One novel feature of these solutions is that the metric functions depend on more than two transverse coordinates (unlike all the other previous known solutions). All the solutions have eight preserved supersymmetries and the world-volume theories of the NS5-branes are new non-local, non-gravitational, six dimensional, T-dual little string theories with eight supersymmetries. We discuss the limits in which the dynamics of the D2 and NS5-branes decouple from the bulk for these solutions.Comment: 32 pages, 7 figures, few sentences added, a couple of typos corrected, to appear in JHE
