The Limit Behavior Of The Trajectories of Dissipative Quadratic Stochastic Operators on Finite Dimensional Simplex
The limit behavior of trajectories of dissipative quadratic stochastic
operators on a finite-dimensional simplex is fully studied. It is shown that
any dissipative quadratic stochastic operator has either unique or infinitely
many fixed points. If dissipative quadratic stochastic operator has a unique
point, it is proven that the operator is regular at this fixed point. If it has
infinitely many fixed points, then it is shown that limit set of the

Monitoring the Thermal Power of Nuclear Reactors with a Prototype Cubic Meter Antineutrino Detector
In this paper, we estimate how quickly and how precisely a reactor's
operational status and thermal power can be monitored over hour to month time
scales, using the antineutrino rate as measured by a cubic meter scale
detector. Our results are obtained from a detector we have deployed and
operated at 25 meter standoff from a reactor core. This prototype can detect a
prompt reactor shutdown within five hours, and monitor relative thermal power
to three percent within seven days. Monitoring of short-term power changes in
this way may be useful in the context of International Atomic Energy Agency's
(IAEA) Reactor Safeguards Regime, or other cooperative monitoring regimes.Comment: 10 pages, 9 figure
Extending Feynman's Formalisms for Modelling Human Joint Action Coordination
The recently developed Life-Space-Foam approach to goal-directed human action
deals with individual actor dynamics. This paper applies the model to
characterize the dynamics of co-action by two or more actors. This dynamics is
modelled by: (i) a two-term joint action (including cognitive/motivatonal
potential and kinetic energy), and (ii) its associated adaptive path integral,
representing an infinite--dimensional neural network. Its feedback adaptation
loop has been derived from Bernstein's concepts of sensory corrections loop in
human motor control and Brooks' subsumption architectures in robotics.
Potential applications of the proposed model in human--robot interaction
research are discussed.

Cosmic Optical Background: the View from Pioneer 10/11
We present the new constraints on the cosmic optical background (COB)
obtained from an analysis of the Pioneer 10/11 Imaging Photopolarimeter (IPP)
data. After careful examination of data quality, the usable measurements free
from the zodiacal light are integrated into sky maps at the blue (~0.44 um) and
red (~0.64 um) bands. Accurate starlight subtraction is achieved by referring
to all-sky star catalogs and a Galactic stellar population synthesis model down
to 32.0 mag. We find that the residual light is separated into two components:
one component shows a clear correlation with thermal 100 um brightness, while
another betrays a constant level in the lowest 100 um brightness region.
Presence of the second component is significant after all the uncertainties and
possible residual light in the Galaxy are taken into account, thus it most
likely has the extragalactic origin (i.e., the COB). The derived COB brightness
is (1.8 +/- 0.9) x 10^(-9) and (1.2 +/- 0.9) x 10^(-9) erg/s/cm2/sr/A at the
blue and red band, respectively, or 7.9 +/- 4.0 and 7.7 +/- 5.8 nW/m2/sr. Based
on a comparison with the integrated brightness of galaxies, we conclude that
the bulk of the COB is comprised of normal galaxies which have already been
resolved by the current deepest observations. There seems to be little room for
contributions of other populations including "first stars" at these
wavelengths. On the other hand, the first component of the IPP residual light
represents the diffuse Galactic light (DGL) - scattered starlight by the
interstellar dust. We derive the mean DGL-to-100 um brightness ratios of 2.1 x
10^(-3) and 4.6 x 10^(-3) at the two bands, which are roughly consistent with
the previous observations toward denser dust regions. Extended red emission in

Retinal tubulin binds macular carotenoids
Journal ArticlePURPOSE: To investigate the biochemical mechanisms responsible for the specific uptake, concentration, and stabilization of the carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin in the macula. METHODS: Soluble extracts of bovine retina mixed with radioactive carotenoids were purified by hydrophobic interaction, ion exchange, and gel filtration chromatography. Carotenoid-associated proteins in these purified preparations were identified through photoaffinity labeling and protein microsequencing. Similar purifications on human macular tissue without the addition of exogenous carotenoids also were performed. RESULTS: Experiments on bovine retinal tissue demonstrated that tubulin is the major soluble carotenoid-binding protein. When soluble extracts of human macular protein were examined, the endogenous carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin were found to copurify with tubulin. CONCLUSIONS: Tubulin is found in abundance in the receptor axon layer of the fovea, where it can serve as a locus for the deposition of the high concentrations of macular carotenoids found there. The binding interaction of carotenoids and tubulin in the Henle's fiber layer could play an important role in the photoprotective effects of the macular carotenoids against the progression of age-related macular degeneration. The association of carotenoids with tubulin, a protein that can form highly ordered linear arrays, may provide an explanation for the dichroic phenomenon of Haidinger's brushes
Applications of BGP-reflection functors: isomorphisms of cluster algebras
Given a symmetrizable generalized Cartan matrix , for any index , one
can define an automorphism associated with of the field of rational functions of independent indeterminates It is an isomorphism between two cluster algebras associated to the
matrix (see section 4 for precise meaning). When is of finite type,
these isomorphisms behave nicely, they are compatible with the BGP-reflection
functors of cluster categories defined in [Z1, Z2] if we identify the
indecomposable objects in the categories with cluster variables of the
corresponding cluster algebras, and they are also compatible with the
"truncated simple reflections" defined in [FZ2, FZ3]. Using the construction of
preprojective or preinjective modules of hereditary algebras by Dlab-Ringel
[DR] and the Coxeter automorphisms (i.e., a product of these isomorphisms), we
construct infinitely many cluster variables for cluster algebras of infinite
