    Test of hybrid metric-Palatini f(R)-gravity in binary pulsars

    We developed the parameterized post-Keplerian formalism for hybrid metric-Palatini f(R)f(R)-gravity. We obtained analytical expressions in the generel eccentric case for four PPK parameters: Ο‰Λ™\dot\omega, PΛ™b\dot P_{\rm b}, rr and ss. Using observational data of PSR J0737-3039 and PSR J1903+0327 we imposed restrictions on the parameters of hybrid f(R)-gravity and showed that this theory is not ruled out by the observations in strong field regime. In addition we obtained predictions for masses of systems components and found that considered astrophysical objects will be heavier than in GR.Comment: 12 pages, 4 figure

    Infrared stability of ABJ-like theories

    We consider marginal deformations of the superconformal ABJM/ABJ models which preserve N=2 supersymmetry. We determine perturbatively the spectrum of fixed points and study their infrared stability. We find a closed line of fixed points which is IR stable. The fixed point corresponding to the ABJM/ABJ models is stable under marginal deformations which respect the original SU(2)xSU(2) invariance, while deformations which break this group destabilize the theory which then flows to a less symmetric fixed point. We discuss the addition of flavor degrees of freedom. We prove that in general a flavor marginal superpotential does not destabilize the system in the IR. An exception is represented by a marginal coupling which mixes matter charged under different gauge sectors. Finally, we consider the case of relevant deformations which should drive the system to a strongly coupled IR fixed point recently investigated in arXiv:0909.2036 [hep-th].Comment: 1+11 pages, 4 figures; v2: minor correction

    The lecture describes the mechanisms of deterioration of respiratory exchange during exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It has been demonstrated that the rapid diagnosis and treatment of exacerbations is an important part of COPD management. The restriction ofΒ expiratory airflow followed by the increased dynamic pulmonary hyperinflation seems to be the most important pathophysiological mechanism in COPD exacerbation, which has catastrophic consequences for the respiratory system with respect to respiratory mechanics and gas exchange.
