Integrating Power Engineering Topics and Applications in Non-Power Courses
This paper investigates integrating power engineering material over the breadth of an electrical engineering curriculum. Electrical engineering curricula have a large number of required courses and many subareas for students to study. By introducing power concepts in a variety of courses, students may be motivated to take additional courses in the power area and are better prepared for the diverse background which will be required of them as practising power engineers. The important interrelationships between subareas of electrical engineering are better understood by students when cross discipline applications are discussed. This paper describes the introduction of power concepts and applications in courses such as linear systems, digital systems, microprocessors, digital signal processing, electronic system design and electrical materials
An epistemic community comes and goes? Local and national expressions of heart health promotion in Canada

Abstract

Background

The objective of this study is to examine the existence and shape of epistemic communities for (heart) health promotion at the international, national, provincial and regional levels in Canada. Epistemic community may be defined as a network of experts with an authoritative claim to policy relevant knowledge in their area of expertise.

Methods

An interpretive policy analysis was employed using 60 documents (48 provincial, 8 national and 4 international) and 66 interviews (from 5 Canadian provinces). These data were entered into NUD*IST, a qualitative software analysis package, to assist in the development of codes and themes. These codes form the basis of the results.

Results

A scientific and policy epistemic community was identified at the international and Canadian federal levels. Provincially and regionally, the community is present as an idea but its implementation varies between jurisdictions.

Conclusion

The importance of economic, political and cultural factors shapes the presence and shape of the epistemic community in different jurisdictions. The community waxes and wanes but appears robust.</p
Calcul de la forme du profil de la raie de résonance du mercure élargie par l'argon basé sur la théorie de Jablonski
The shape of the mercury resonance line broadened by argon was calculated on the basis of the theory given by A. Jablonski. Assumption was made that the interaction potential is of the Lennard-Jones [12-6] type. Potential parameters were determined from thermodynamic and spectroscopic data given in the literature. The theoretical calculations were compared with Michel's-exprimental data. The shape determined is in close agreement with the observed one.
