Electronic structures of La3_3S4_4 and Ce3_3S4_4

We have investigated electronic structures of La3_3S4_4 and Ce3_3S4_4 using the LSDA and LSDA+UU methods. Calculated density of states (DOS) are compared with the experimental DOS obtained by the valence band photoemission spectroscopy. The DOS at EFE_{\rm{F}} indicates the 5dd character in La3_3S4_4 and 4ff character in Ce3_3S4_4. It is found to be nearly half metallic in the ferromagnetic ground state of Ce3_3S4_4. %Ce3_3S4_4 has ferromagnetic ground states with spin and orbital magnetic %moments of 1.27 μB\mu_{\rm{B}} and -2.81 μB\mu_{\rm{B}} per Ce, respectively, %and shows nearly half metallic ground state. We discuss the superconductivity and structural transition in La3_3S4_4, and the absence of structural transition in Ce3_3S4_4.Comment: Transport and Thermal Properties of Advanced Materials(Aug. 2002; Hiroshima, Japan

One-Loop QCD Mass Effects in the Production of Polarized Bottom and Top Quarks

The analytic expressions for the production cross sections of polarized bottom and top quarks in e+ee^+e^- annihilation are explicitly derived at the one-loop order of strong interactions. Chirality-violating mass effects will reduce the longitudinal spin polarization for the light quark pairs by an amount of 3%3\%, when one properly considers the massless limit for the final quarks. Numerical estimates of longitudinal spin polarization effects in the processes e+ebbˉ(g)e^+e^-\to b\bar{b}(g) and e+ettˉ(g)e^+e^- \to t\bar{t}(g) are presented.Comment: 17 p. U(1) Gauge Field of the Kaluza-Klein Theory in the Presence of Branes

    Get PDF
We investigate the zero mode dimensional reduction of the Kaluza-Klein unifications in the presence of a single brane in the infinite extra dimension. We treat the brane as fixed, not a dynamical object, and do not require the orbifold symmetry. It seems that, contrary to the standard Kaluza-Klein models, the 4D effective action is no longer invariant under the U(1) gauge transformations due to the explicit breaking of isometries in the extra dimension by the brane. Surprisingly, however, the linearized perturbation analysis around the RS vacuum shows that the Kaluza-Klein gauge field does possess the U(1) gauge symmetry at the linear level. In addition, the graviscalar also behaves differently from the 4D point of view. Some physical implications of our results are also discussed.Comment: 10 pages, revtex, no figure, version to appear in Phys. Rev. Measurement of the π\pi^- decay width of Λ5^5_\LambdaHe

We have precisely measured Λpπ\Lambda \to p\pi^- decay width of \5LHe and demonstrated significantly larger α\alpha -Λ\Lambda overlap than expected from the central repulsion α\alpha-Λ\Lambda potential, which is derived from YNG \Lambda$-nucleon interaction.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure

Proton asymmetry in non-mesonic weak decay of light hypernuclei

We have obtained the decay asymmetry parameters in non-mesonic weak decay of polarized Lambda-hypernuclei by measuring the proton asymmetry. The polarized Lambda-hypernuclei, 5_Lambda-He, 12_Lambda-C, and 11_Lambda-B, were produced in high statistics via the (pi^+,k^+) reaction at 1.05 GeV/c in the forward angles. Preliminary analysis shows that the decay asymmetry parameters are very small for these s-shell and p-shell hypernuclei.Comment: 4pages, 4figures, International Conference on Hypernuclear and Strange Particle Physics (HYP2003

Measurements of the Composite Fermion masses from the spin polarization of 2-D electrons in the region 1<ν<21<\nu<2

Measurements of the reflectivity of a 2-D electron gas are used to deduce the polarization of the Composite Fermion hole system formed for Landau level occupancies in the regime 1<\nu<2. The measurements are consistent with the formation of a mixed spin CF system and allow the density of states or `polarization' effective mass of the CF holes to be determined. The mass values at \nu=3/2 are found to be ~1.9m_{e} for electron densities of 4.4 x 10^{11} cm^{-2}, which is significantly larger than those found from measurements of the energy gaps at finite values of effective magnetic field.Comment: 4 pages, 3 fig

pi^0 decay branching ratios of 5_Lambda-He and 12_Lambda-C hypernuclei

We precisely measured pi^0 branching ratios of 5_Lambda-He and 12_Lambda-C hypernuclei produced via (pi^+,k^+) reaction. Using these pi^0 branching ratios with the pi^- branching ratios and the lifetimes, we obtained the pi^0 decay widths and the non-mesonic weak decay widths at high statistics with the accuracy of ~5 % (stat) for both hypernuclei.Comment: 4pages, 4figures, International Conference on Hypernuclear and Strange Particle Physics (HYP2003

Nucleon-nucleon coincidence measurement in the non-mesonic weak decay of 5_Lambda-He and 12_Lambda-C hypernuclei

We have measured both yields of neutron-proton and neutron-neutron pairs emitted from the non-mesonic weak decay process of 5_Lambda-He and 12_Lambda-C hypernuclei produced via the (pi^+,K^+) reaction for the first time. We observed clean back-to-back correlation of the np- and nn-pairs in the coincidence spectra for both hypernuclei. The ratio of those back-to-back pair yields, Nnn / Nnp, must be close to the ratio of neutron- and proton-induced decay widths of the decay, Gn(Lambda n -> nn)/Gp(Lambda p -> np). The obtained ratios for each hypernuclei support recent calculations based on short-range interactions.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figure, International Nuclear Physics Conference (INPC 2004), Goteborg, Sweden, June 27 - July 2, 2004, to appear in Nuclear Physics
