Mapping the Sensitive Volume of an Ion-Counting Nanodosimeter
We present two methods of independently mapping the dimensions of the
sensitive volume in an ion-counting nanodosimeter. The first method is based on
a calculational approach simulating the extraction of ions from the sensitive
volume, and the second method on probing the sensitive volume with 250 MeV
protons. Sensitive-volume maps obtained with both methods are compared and

Long-range attraction between particles in dusty plasma and partial surface tension of dusty phase boundary
Effective potential of a charged dusty particle moving in homogeneous plasma
has a negative part that provides attraction between similarly charged dusty
particles. A depth of this potential well is great enough to ensure both
stability of crystal structure of dusty plasma and sizable value of surface
tension of a boundary surface of dusty region. The latter depends on the
orientation of the surface relative to the counter-ion flow, namely, it is
maximal and positive for the surface normal to the flow and minimal and
negative for the surface along the flow. For the most cases of dusty plasma in
a gas discharge, a value of the first of them is more than sufficient to ensure
stability of lenticular dusty phase void oriented across the counter-ion flow.Comment: LATEX, REVTEX4, 7 pages, 6 figure
Maximum Renyi entropy principle for systems with power--law Hamiltonian
The Renyi distribution ensuring the maximum of a Renyi entropy is
investigated for a particular case of a power--law Hamiltonian. Both Lagrange
parameters, and can be excluded. It is found that does
not depend on a Renyi parameter and can be expressed in terms of an
exponent of the power--law Hamiltonian and an average energy . The
Renyi entropy for the resulted Renyi distribution reaches its maximal value at
that can be considered as the most probable value of when
we have no additional information on behaviour of the stochastic process. The
Renyi distribution for such becomes a power--law distribution with the
exponent . When ()
there appears a horizontal "head" part of the Renyi distribution that precedes

Superconformal indices of three-dimensional theories related by mirror symmetry
Recently, Kim and Imamura and Yokoyama derived an exact formula for
superconformal indices in three-dimensional field theories. Using their
results, we prove analytically the equality of superconformal indices in some
U(1)-gauge group theories related by the mirror symmetry. The proofs are based
on the well known identities of the theory of -special functions. We also
suggest the general index formula taking into account the global

Aging and memory phenomena in magnetic and transport properties of vortex matter: a brief review
There is mounting experimental evidence that strong off-equilibrium
phenomena, such as ``memory'' or ``aging'' effects, play a crucial role in the
physics of vortices in type II superconductors. We give a short review, based
on a recently introduced schematic vortex model, of current progresses in
understanding out of equilibrium vortex behaviours. We develop a unified
description of ``memory'' phenomena in magnetic and transport properties, such
as magnetisation loops and their ``anomalous'' 2nd peak, logarithmic creep,
``anomalous'' finite creep rate in the limit of vanishing temperature,
``memory'' and ``irreversibility'' in I-V characteristics, time dependent
critical currents, ``rejuvenation'' and ``aging'' of the system response.Comment: updated versio
Sensory properties of solid solutions based on cobaltites of rare earth elements and bismuth ferrite
Dynamic constriction and fission of endoplasmic reticulum membranes by reticulon
The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is a continuous cell-wide membrane network. Network formation has been associated with proteins producing membrane curvature and fusion, such as reticulons and atlastin. Regulated network fragmentation, occurring in different physiological contexts, is less understood. Here we find that the ER has an embedded fragmentation mechanism based upon the ability of reticulon to produce fission of elongating network branches. In Drosophila, Rtnl1-facilitated fission is counterbalanced by atlastin-driven fusion, with the prevalence of Rtnl1 leading to ER fragmentation. Ectopic expression of Drosophila reticulon in COS-7 cells reveals individual fission events in dynamic ER tubules. Consistently, in vitro analyses show that reticulon produces velocity-dependent constriction of lipid nanotubes leading to stochastic fission via a hemifission mechanism. Fission occurs at elongation rates and pulling force ranges intrinsic to the ER, thus suggesting a principle whereby the dynamic balance between fusion and fission controlling organelle morphology depends on membrane motility
(1,0) superconformal models in six dimensions
We construct six-dimensional (1,0) superconformal models with non-abelian
gauge couplings for multiple tensor multiplets. A crucial ingredient in the
construction is the introduction of three-form gauge potentials which
communicate degrees of freedom between the tensor multiplets and the Yang-Mills
multiplet, but do not introduce additional degrees of freedom. Generically
these models provide only equations of motions. For a subclass also a
Lagrangian formulation exists, however it appears to exhibit indefinite metrics
in the kinetic sector. We discuss several examples and analyze the excitation
spectra in their supersymmetric vacua. In general, the models are
perturbatively defined only in the spontaneously broken phase with the vev of
the tensor multiplet scalars serving as the inverse coupling constants of the
Yang-Mills multiplet. We briefly discuss the inclusion of hypermultiplets which
