Spin Wave Response in the Dilute Quasi-one Dimensional Ising-like Antiferromagnet CsCo_{0.83}Mg_{0.17}Br_3
Inelastic neutron scattering profiles of spin waves in the dilute
quasi-one-dimensional Ising-like antiferromagnet CsCo_{0.83}Mg_{0.17}Br_3 have
been investigated. Calculations of S^{xx}(Q,omega), based on an effective spin
Hamiltonian, accurately describe the experimental spin wave spectrum of the 2J
mode. The Q dependence of the energy of this spin wave mode follows the
analytical prediction
omega_{xx}(Q)=(2J)(1-5epsilon^{2}cos^{2}Qa+2epsilon^{2})^{1/2}, calculated by
Ishimura and Shiba using perturbation theory.Comment: 13 pages, 4 figure
Observation of Spin-glass-like Behavior in SrRuO3 Epitaxial Thin Films
We report the observation of spin-glass-like behavior and strong magnetic
anisotropy in extremely smooth (~1-3 \AA) roughness) epitaxial (110) and (010)
SrRuO3 thin films. The easy axis of magnetization is always perpendicular to
the plane of the film (unidirectional) irrespective of crystallographic
orientation. An attempt has been made to understand the nature and origin of
spin-glass behavior, which fits well with Heisenberg model.Comment: 5 pages, 5 Figure
Sublattice Asymmetric Reductions of Spin Values on Stacked Triangular Lattice Antiferromagnet CsCoBr
We study the reductions of spin values of the ground state on a stacked
triangular antiferromagnet using the spin-wave approach. We find that the spin
reductions have sublattice asymmetry due to the cancellation of the molecular
field. The sublattice asymmetry qualitatively analyzes the NMR results of
CsCoBr.Comment: 5pages, 5figure
A Novel Longitudinal Mode in the Coupled Quantum Chain Compound KCuF3
Inelastic neutron scattering measurements are reported that show a new
longitudinal mode in the antiferromagnetically ordered phase of the spin-1/2
quasi-one-dimensional antiferromagnet KCuF3. This mode signals the cross-over
from one-dimensional to three-dimensional behavior and indicates a reduction in
the ordered spin moment of a spin-1/2 antiferromagnet. The measurements are
compared with recent quantum field theory results and are found to be in
excellent agreement. A feature of the data not predicted by theory is a damping
of the mode by decay processes to the transverse spin-wave branches.Comment: 9 pages of text plus 4 postscript figures (1 color
Experimental Observation of Continuous Melting into a Hexatic Phase
This paper reports the results of an x-ray diffuse scattering study of the melting transition of monolayer xenon on the surface of single crystals of exfoliated graphite. It is found that the two-dimensional xenon solid melts into an orientationally ordered liquid (or hexatic) phase. The temperature dependence of the orientational correlations suggests that the hexatic phase exists as a consequence of the continuous melting process, not the substrate
Magnetic Excitations in the Quasi-1D Ising-like Antiferromagnet TlCoCl
Neutron inelastic scattering measurements have been performed in order to
investigate the magnetic excitations in the quasi-1D Ising-like antiferromagnet
TlCoCl. We observed the magnetic excitation, which corresponds to the
spin-wave excitation continuum corresponding to the domain-wall pair excitation
in the 1D Ising-like antiferromagnet. According to the Ishimura-Shiba theory,
we analyzed the observed spin-wave excitation, and the exchange constant
and the anistropy were estimated as 14.7 meV and 0.14 in TlCoCl,
respectively.Comment: 2 pages, 3 figures, jpsj2.cls, to be published in J. Phys. Soc. Jpn.

Polarized Neutron Inelastic Scattering Study of the Anisotropic Magnetic Fluctuations in the Quasi-1D Ising-like Antiferromagnet TlCoCl
Polarized neutron inelastic scattering experiments have been carried out in
the quasi-1D Ising-like antiferromagnet TlCoCl. We observed the
longitudinal magnetic fluctuation for the spin-wave
excitation continuum, which has not been observed in the unpolarized neutron
inelastic scattering experiments of the quasi-1D Ising-like antiferromagnets
CsCoCl and TlCoCl so far, together with the transverse magnetic
fluctuation . We compared both obtained intensities of
and with the perturbation theory from
the pure Ising limit by Ishimura and Shiba, and a semi-quantitative agreement
was found.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures, jpsj2.cls, to be published in J. Phys. Soc. Jpn.

Neutron, electron and X-ray scattering investigation of Cr1-xVx near Quantum Criticality
The weakness of electron-electron correlations in the itinerant
antiferromagnet Cr doped with V has long been considered the reason that
neither new collective electronic states or even non Fermi liquid behaviour are
observed when antiferromagnetism in CrV is suppressed to zero
temperature. We present the results of neutron and electron diffraction
measurements of several lightly doped single crystals of CrV in
which the archtypal spin density wave instability is progressively suppressed
as the V content increases, freeing the nesting-prone Fermi surface for a new
striped charge instability that occurs at x=0.037. This novel nesting
driven instability relieves the entropy accumulation associated with the
suppression of the spin density wave and avoids the formation of a quantum
critical point by stabilising a new type of charge order at temperatures in
excess of 400 K. Restructuring of the Fermi surface near quantum critical
points is a feature found in materials as diverse as heavy fermions, high
temperature copper oxide superconductors and now even elemental metals such as
Cr.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures. Accepted to Physical Review
