Calculation and experimental verification of m drop in tsia electrodes of chlor-alkali cells

    Get PDF
A computer program to analyss the current distribution in a chlor-alkali cell using Titanium Substrate Insoluble Anode (TSIA) has baen developed. The program takes into account the polarisation resistance characteristics of anode and camode and the electrolyte resistance, in a d d i i to anode nodal resistance. The results are compared with the experimental data

Metastases to the craniovertebral junction: illustrative case report and review of literature

    Get PDF
Metastases at the craniovertebral junction represent 0.5-1% of spinal metastatic lesions. Common primary sites include breast, lung and prostate carcinoma. Initial presenting features include neck pain and occipital neuralgia. High index of suspicion is required to recognize this entity in patients presenting with neck pain. If left unrecognized, these metastatic lesions have the propensity to cause catastrophic collapse leading to significant morbidity and mortality due to fracture subluxation and spinal cord compression. Here we discuss such a patient who presented with acute onset quadriparesis and lower cranial nerve palsies due to metastatic lesion involving the C1 and C2 vertebra causing medullary and cervical cord compression. Early detection and timely intervention are key to improving outcomes in such patients

Functionalized Nanoparticles as Sorbents for Removal of Toxic Species

    Get PDF
Removal of various toxic species from aqueous streams is of great importance. Sorption is one of the important remediation procedures as it involves the use of cheap and easily available materials. Also the advantage of regeneration of the sorbent involves the possibility of using novel sorbents. Nanosorbents are very important as the removal is based on the surface phenomena and this is greatly affected by surface charge and area. Functionalization has been very important to bring about the removal of metal ions with greater selectivity

An interesting case of metastatic brain abscess

    Get PDF
Klebsiella pneumoniae is a Gram-negative, non-motile, lactose fermenting, aerobic rod-shaped bacterium with three different subspecies, K. pneumoniae, Klebsiella ozaenae, and Klebsiella rhinoscleromatis. Here, we report the case of a 32-year-old male, chronic alcoholic presented with fever, hemoptysis, and headache of 20 days duration. Over a period of 4 days, the patient worsened with the development of altered sensorium and respiratory distress, connected to a mechanical ventilator. Computed tomography and chest X-ray showed consolidation involving the left lower lobe with an air-fluid level. Magnetic resonance imaging brain showed multiple metastatic brain abscess involving cerebrum and cerebellum and culture reports of sputum and blood showed K. pneumoniae. The patient was started on antibiotics along with anti-tubercular drugs. In spite of effective management, the patient developed recurrent episodes of hemoptysis and died of respiratory failure. For the concomitant involvement of both cerebrum and cerebellum for the first time

Vanishing headache in a young female: An interesting case report

    Get PDF
Headache is one of the most common neurological symptom occurring worldwide. Here, we present a unique case of secondary headache in a young female which got reversed with appropriate treatment. A young female who presented with a severe subacute unilateral left-sided intractable headache with papilledema and obstructive hydrocephalus was found to have 4th ventricular neurocysticercosis causing obstruction of the foramen of Magendi and Luschka, relieved on timely surgical excision and with medical management. This case is reported to highlight the rare causes of secondary headache and various presentations of neurocysticercosis, in endemic areas like India as it causes neurological morbidity which can be alleviated on appropriate treatment, thereby preventing economic hardship and improving the quality of life

Limited data are available regarding outcomes in elderly head and neck cancer patients. This retrospective study was designed to characterize head and neck cancer in geriatric patients

Uranyl - PyridylAzo Resorcinol System: Uncertainty Budget Evaluation and Interference Elimination

    No full text
The spectrophotometric determination of uranyl ion with 4-(2-Pyridylazo)resorcinol (PAR) is a well known and old method. However this technique gives scope for further research in order to make it more selective as well as sensitive for uranyl ion determination. In this study, the experimental protocol has simplified as compared to previous report. An attempt to evaluate the uncertainty budget associated with the determination has been carried out. The effect of different cationic interferences has been studied and a simple method was developed to reduce the interferences
