    Effect of Integrated Nutrient Management on Onion Yield and Soil Properties under Chromic haplusterts of Karnataka

    A field experiment was conducted during the Kharif season of 2002 and 2003 under Chromic Haplusterts (medium black soils) at Zonal Agricultural Research Station, Hiriyur to study the effect of Coir Pith Based Compost (CPBC) along with organic manures and inorganic fertilizers on yield of Onion. The study revealed that combined application of CPBC @ 15 t/ha along with press mud (PM) and half the recommended dose of fertilizer (RDF) gave significant higher bulb yield of onion (14.70 t/ha) as compared to RDF along with FYM (9.55 t/ha). The bulb yields were on par with the combined application of CPBC along with FYM and 50% RDF or combined application of CPBC and Green manure (GM) along with 100% RDF, indicating the utility of CPBC in onion cultivation. Higher net and gross returns were recorded with application of CPBC and PM @ 15 t/ha each along with 50% RDF with better benefit cost ratio. The yield and quality parameters also differed significantly among the various combinations of CPBC with PM or FYM in conjunction with inorganic fertilizers. Analysis of the soil after the harvest of onion crop did not show any significant difference in pH and EC among the treatments. However, organic carbon, available phosphorus and available potash were significantly higher due to application of CPBC, PM, FYM and GM along with 50% or 100% RDF

    Niemann-Pick (NP) disease is a distinct disorder with specific clinical and morphological manifestations. We report a 2-year-oldgirl who presented with normal development, acute onset of pallor, lethargy, and massive splenomegaly, which made us to think ofhemolytic anemia as the initial diagnosis. Her bone marrow done, after initial hematological work up being normal, showed NP cells.As the child did not have any neurological abnormality, she was diagnosed as NP Type B (NPD-B) storage disease. We report it as atypical presentation of NPD-B

    Temporal lobe involvement: A diagnostic challenge in Japanese encephalitis

    Japanese encephalitis (JE) and herpes encephalitis are the most common endemic and sporadic encephalitis, respectively. A 10-yearoldboy, presented with features suggestive of viral meningoencephalitis, had neuroimaging suggestive of herpes encephalitis, butcerebrospinal fluid serology was positive of JE. Temporal lobe involvement in JE may cause problems in differentiating it from herpesencephalitis, which highlights the importance of both neuroimaging and serology for a complete diagnosis

    Performance of an Orifice Compensated Two-Lobe Hole-Entry Hybrid Journal Bearing

    The work presented in this paper aims to study the performance of a two-lobe hole-entry hybrid journal bearing system compensated by orifice restrictors. The Reynolds equation governing the flow of lubricant in the clearance space between the journal and bearing together with the equation of flow through an orifice restrictor has been solved using FEM and Galerkin's method. The bearing performance characteristics results have been simulated for an orifice compensated nonrecessed two-lobe hole-entry hybrid journal bearing symmetric configuration for the various values of offset factor (), restrictor design parameter (2), and the value of external load (0). Further, a comparative study of the performance of a two-lobe hole-entry hybrid journal bearing system with a circular hole-entry symmetric hybrid journal bearing system has also been carried out so that a designer has a better flexibility in choosing a suitable bearing configuration. The simulated numerical results indicate that for the two-lobe symmetric hole-entry hybrid journal bearing system with an offset factor () greater than one provides 30 to 50 percent larger values of direct stiffness and direct damping coefficients as compared to a circular symmetric hole-entry hybrid journal bearing system

    Study of Vibration Behaviour of Stiffened Polymer Composite Shells for Underwater Structural Applications

    This paper presents vibration behavior of ring stiffened polymer composite thick shells used for underwater structures. Filament wound shells stiffened with internal and external rings and with hemispherical ends were tested for vibration in air and water in free-free boundary condition using roving hammer and fixed response method. Modal testing of the shells was performed under hydrostatic loading in a custom designed buckling tester for determining natural frequency at higher sea depths. Accelerometer was mounted on the inner surface of the shell. It was excited using a plumbob, rope and pulley arrangement. Experimental results were validated by modal analysis using Hyperworks and ANSYS. Vibration behavior in water was simulated by Fluid structure interaction approach. Experimental first natural frequency in water was lesser than that in air. With increase in hydrostatic pressure, the shell showed moderate variation in natural frequency. The experimental and numerical results of natural frequency and mode shapes were in good agreement with each other. Natural frequencies were lower in long and thick shells

    Abstract: 1-Phenyl-4-(2'-hydroxyphenyl-1-yl)di-imino azine, {1P-4-(2' HPDA)} 1, 4(2'-hydroxyphenyl-1-yl)di-imino azine, {1, 4-(2' HPDA)} are derived from benzophenone hydrozone with different aldehydes in presence of few drops of concentrated hydrochloric acid in alcoholic medium. Metal(II) complexes have been prepared by salts of CoCl 2 , CuCl 2 , NiCl 2 and CdCl 2 reacting with azine ligands dissolved in alcohol in the molar ratio of (1:2). The prepared complexes were characterized by using various physical methods viz. elemental, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility, IR, NMR, XRD and UV-Visible. Conductivity of the powder samples were measured by two probe method. Measured electrical conductivities of Co(II), Cu(II), Ni(II) and Cd(II) complexes of azines are reported in this paper. It is found that at room temperature these complexes show insulator behavior. At higher temperature conductivity increases linearly, showing semi conducting behavior

    A ternary PEDOT-TiO2-reduced graphene oxide nanocomposite for supercapacitor applications

    A ternary composite of PEDOT was prepared with TiO2 via emulsion polymerization method adjusting various weight ratios of TiO2 to PEDOT and synthesized rGO was then blended with this composite. The FTIR, UV–Vis and XRD analysis displayed characteristic features of PEDOT and TiO2. The morphology of the nano-hybrid structure was additionally investigated by SEM analysis. Pore size and surface area analysis of particles were characterized by BET method. The electrochemical analysis showed that the specific capacitance (Csp) for PEDOT-TiO2-15-rGO was 18.9 F.cm-2 at 0.1 mA g-1 current density
