Inclusion agglomeration in electrified molten metal: thermodynamic consideration
The effect of electric current on inclusion agglomeration in molten metal has been investigated. It is found that the agglomeration is dependent on the electric current density, distance between inclusions and orientation of electric field. Electric current retards the agglomeration unless two inclusions are aligned along or closely to the current flow streamlines and the distance between inclusions is less than a critical value. The mechanism is also validated in the computation of cluster agglomeration. The numerical results provide a comprehensive indication for the current-induced inclusion removal and current-induced inclusion elongation. When the inclusions are in long-thin shape, the calculation predicts the current-induced microstructure alignment and current-induced microstructure refinement phenomena
Sketch-based virtual human modelling and animation
Animated virtual humans created by skilled artists play a remarkable role in todayâs public entertainment. However, ordinary users are still treated as audiences due to the lack of appropriate expertise, equipment, and computer skills. We developed a new method and a novel sketching interface, which enable anyone who can draw to âsketch-outâ 3D virtual humans and animation.
We devised a âStick FigureFleshing-outSkin Mappingâ graphical pipeline, which decomposes the complexity of figure drawing and considerably boosts the modelling and animation efficiency. We developed a gesture-based method for 3D pose reconstruction from 2D stick figure drawings. We investigated a âCreative Model-based Methodâ, which performs a human perception process to transfer usersâ 2D freehand sketches into 3D human bodies of various body sizes, shapes and fat distributions. Our current system supports character animation in various forms including articulated figure animation, 3D mesh model animation, and 2D contour/NPR animation with personalised drawing styles. Moreover, this interface also supports sketch-based crowd animation and 2D storyboarding of 3D multiple character interactions. A preliminary user study was conducted to support the overall system design. Our system has been formally tested by various users on Tablet PC. After minimal training, even a beginner can create vivid virtual humans and animate them within minutes
Sketching-out virtual humans: From 2d storyboarding to immediate 3d character animation
Virtual beings are playing a remarkable role in todayâs public entertainment, while ordinary users are still treated as audiences due to the lack of appropriate expertise, equipment, and computer skills. In this paper, we present a fast and intuitive storyboarding interface, which enables users to sketch-out 3D virtual humans, 2D/3D animations, and character intercommunication. We devised an intuitive âstick figurefleshing-outskin mappingâ graphical animation pipeline, which realises the whole process of key framing, 3D pose reconstruction, virtual human modelling, motion path/timing control, and the final animation synthesis by almost pure 2D sketching. Sketching-out virtual humans: A smart interface for human modelling and animation
In this paper, we present a fast and intuitive interface for sketching out
3D virtual humans and animation. The user draws stick figure key frames first and
chooses one for âfleshing-outâ with freehand body contours. The system
automatically constructs a plausible 3D skin surface from the rendered figure, and
maps it onto the posed stick figures to produce the 3D character animation. A
âcreative model-based methodâ is developed, which performs a human perception
process to generate 3D human bodies of various body sizes, shapes and fat
distributions. In this approach, an anatomical 3D generic model has been created with
three distinct layers: skeleton, fat tissue, and skin. It can be transformed sequentially
through rigid morphing, fatness morphing, and surface fitting to match the original
2D sketch. An auto-beautification function is also offered to regularise the 3D
asymmetrical bodies from usersâ imperfect figure sketches. Our current system
delivers character animation in various forms, including articulated figure animation,
3D mesh model animation, 2D contour figure animation, and even 2D NPR animation
with personalised drawing styles. The system has been formally tested by various

Radiative and Collisional Jet Energy Loss in a Quark-Gluon Plasma
We calculate radiative and collisional energy loss of hard partons traversing
the quark-gluon plasma created at RHIC and compare the respective size of these
contributions. We employ the AMY formalism for radiative energy loss and
include additionally energy loss by elastic collisions. Our treatment of both
processes is complete at leading order in the coupling, and accounts for the
probabilistic nature of jet energy loss. We find that a solution of the
Fokker-Planck equation for the probability density distributions of partons is
necessary for a complete calculation of the nuclear modification factor
for pion production in heavy ion collisions. It is found that the
magnitude of is sensitive to the inclusion of both collisional and
radiative energy loss, while the average energy is less affected by the
addition of collisional contributions. We present a calculation of for
at RHIC, combining our energy loss formalism with a relativistic

Critical behaviour of a spin-tube model in a magnetic field
We show that the low-energy physics of the spin-tube model in presence of a
critical magnetic field can be described by a broken SU(3) spin chain. Using
the Lieb-Schultz-Mattis Theorem we characterize the possible magnetization
plateaus and study the critical behavior in the region of transition between
the plateaus m=1/2 and m=3/2 by means of renormalization group calculations
performed on the bosonized effective continuum field theory. We show that in
certain regions of the parameter space of the effective theory the system
remains gapless, and we compute the spin-spin correlation functions in these
regions. We also discuss the possibility of a plateau at m=1, and show that
although there exists in the continuum theory a term that might cause the
appearance of a plateau there, such term is unlikely to be relevant. This
conjecture is proved by DMRG techniques. The modifications of the three-leg
ladder Hamiltonian that might show plateaus at m =1,5/6,7/6 are discussed, and

Cryptanalysis of the Hillery-Buzek-Berthiaume quantum secret-sharing protocol
The participant attack is the most serious threat for quantum secret-sharing
protocols. We present a method to analyze the security of quantum
secret-sharing protocols against this kind of attack taking the scheme of
Hillery, Buzek, and Berthiaume (HBB) [Phys. Rev. A 59 1829 (1999)] as an
example. By distinguishing between two mixed states, we derive the necessary
and sufficient conditions under which a dishonest participant can attain all
the information without introducing any error, which shows that the HBB
protocol is insecure against dishonest participants. It is easy to verify that
the attack scheme of Karlsson, Koashi, and Imoto [Phys. Rev. A 59, 162 (1999)]
is a special example of our results. To demonstrate our results further, we
construct an explicit attack scheme according to the necessary and sufficient
conditions. Our work completes the security analysis of the HBB protocol, and

Radiative and Collisional Energy Loss, and Photon-Tagged Jets at RHIC
The suppression of single jets at high transverse momenta in a quark-gluon
plasma is studied at RHIC energies, and the additional information provided by
a photon tag is included. The energy loss of hard jets traversing through the
medium is evaluated in the AMY formalism, by consistently taking into account
the contributions from radiative events and from elastic collisions at leading
order in the coupling. The strongly-interacting medium in these collisions is
modelled with (3+1)-dimensional ideal relativistic hydrodynamics. Putting these
ingredients together with a complete set of photon-production processes, we
present a calculation of the nuclear modification of single jets and

Jet Modification in a Brick of QGP Matter
We have implemented the LPM effect into a microscopic transport model with
partonic degrees of freedom by following the algorithm of Zapp & Wiedemann. The
Landau-Pomeranchuk-Migdal (LPM) effect is a quantum interference process that
modifies the emission of radiation in the presence of a dense medium. In QCD
this results in a quadratic length dependence for radiative energy loss. This
is an important effect for the modification of jets by their passage through
the QGP.
We verify the leading parton energy loss in the model against the leading
order Baier-Dokshitzer-Mueller-Peigne-Schiff-Zakharov (BDMPS-Z) result.
We apply our model to the recent observations of the modification of di-jets
