Are you a researcher as well as a medical illustrator?
When we list the areas of practice for medical illustrators we always include research, but how involved in research are we? The aim of this activity is to encourage your professional development not just as a medical illustrator but your involvement with research whether that is undertaking your own research, undertaking evidence based practice (1) , working as part of a research team, advising researchers on the value of medical illustration or supporting a student undertaking a research project for their degree or post-graduate qualification
Special tool seals conductors with combination of plastic sleeves
Special tool seals electrical conductors connecting instrumentation within space vehicle cryogenic fuel tanks and oxidizer tanks. An inner sleeve of fluorinated ethylene-propylene and an outer sleeve of tetrafluoroethylene enclose a bundle of conductors and are heated with the tool to form a tight seal of the bundle and each individual wire
Ultrasonic metal etching for metallographic analysis
Ultrasonic etching delineates microstructural features not discernible in specimens prepared for metallographic analysis by standard chemical etching procedures. Cavitation bubbles in ultrasonically excited water produce preferential damage /etching/ of metallurgical phases or grain boundaries, depending on hardness of metal specimens
q-Deformed Supersymmetry and Dynamic Magnon Representations
It was recently noted that the dispersion relation for the magnons of planar
N=4 SYM can be identified with the Casimir of a certain deformation of the
Poincare algebra, in which the energy and momentum operators are supplemented
by a boost generator J. By considering the relationship between J and su(2|2) x
R^2, we derive a q-deformed super-Poincare symmetry algebra of the kinematics.
Using this, we show that the dynamic magnon representations may be obtained by
boosting from a fixed rest-frame representation. We comment on aspects of the
coalgebra structure and some implications for the question of boost-covariance
of the S-matrix.Comment: 15 pages, LaTeX; (v2) references adde
tolerance: An R Package for Estimating Tolerance Intervals
The tolerance package for R provides a set of functions for estimating and plotting tolerance limits. This package provides a wide-range of functions for estimating discrete and continuous tolerance intervals as well as for estimating regression tolerance intervals. An additional tool of the tolerance package is the plotting capability for the univariate and regression settings as well as for the multivariate normal setting. The tolerance package's capabilities are illustrated using simulated data sets. Formulas used for the estimation procedures are also presented.
REIT Property-Type Sector Integration
Equity real estate investment trust (REITs) grouped by property-type sectors have become more integrated over the 1989 to 1998 period as evidenced by increasing correlation over time. Specifically, six pairs of equity REITs grouped as having predominantly apartment, industrial, office and retail properties in their portfolios were examined for correlations of rolling sixty-month returns. Property-type-specific equity REIT portfolios showed a similar trend in rolling sixty-month return correlations, but at generally lower levels than randomly-generated property-type-neutral portfolios. When correlations of property-type-specific portfolios differed statistically from property-type-neutral sample portfolios, the average monthly return differences were not found to be statistically significant.
Demand for Gasoline: Effects of a Durable Good
This paper estimates empirical demand functions for premium gasoline. Specifically, it determines the effectiveness of policies designed to conserve gasoline by considering the effects of changes in gasoline prices on the demand for premium gasoline and by accounting for the differential effect of these changes on the size and composition of the existing stock of automobiles. Regression estimate is conducted.People’s Car Program, automobile sector
