    Until the middle of nineteen sixties fishing for marine finfishes and shellfishes along the Andhra Pradesh coast used to be carried out employing indigenous non-mechanised crafts. Subsequently trawlers and later mechanised vessels operating gillnets came into use which resulted in the increased fish production. Use of outboard engine on indigenous crafts for reaching fishing grounds is a recent feature of near the coast fishing.     Increasing evidence for the important role of Labyrinthulomycetes in marine ecosystems

    This review summarizes increasing evidence for the role of Labyrithulomycetes in marine ecosystems gathered over the last six decades. It focuses on their diversity, habitats, biomass, productivity and overall role in food webs and remineralization. Earlier studies contributed enormously to the cultured diversity of Labyrinthulomycetes. In recent years, their uncultured diversity has been demonstrated in exotic environments like the deep sea and anoxic waters. These findings emphasize the need for novel culture methods to grow these organisms. Many species seem to be substrate-specific in their occurrence. Their commensalistic or mutualistic occurrence in marine invertebrates deserves attention. The biomass of Labyrinthulomycetes in the water column may often match or even exceed that of bacteria, although such occurrences seem to be seasonal. There is a major knowledge gap on their productivity and turnover in the water column. The high biomass and production of several degradative enzymes indicate their importance as remineralizers in the ocean. However, the mechanisms by which they overcome bacterial competition are not clear. It is likely that they occupy special niches, such as marine aggregates. One role of the Labyrinthulomycetes suggested in this review, based on preliminary experiments, is that of ‘left-over scavenging’, following bacterial growth

    Sciaenids are one of the major component of the demersal trawl The total catch of this resource during 1990-94 period was 1.50,142 t contributing 8.86% to the demersal catch of India. A number of species are found in different states of India. Of which biological and stock assessment studies were made on eleven important species. Crustaceans and fish appear to be the chief food in Juvenile and adult stage respectively. Most of the species have a protracted spawning season. Among all the species studied the largest asymptotic length was estimated for O.ruber from Tuticorin and the smallest for J. sina from Cochin. The highest Z of 7.59 was recorded for K. axillaris from Chennai and the lowest was for O. cuvierifrom Mumbai. The average exploitation rate (E) and the Lc/ Lao was 0.62 and 0.53 respectively. The present yield is 91.222 t and the MSY is 1.42,613 t for all the species taken together. The exploitation rate for almost all the stocks in the states appears to be more than the optimum leve

    Bacillus cereus KLUVAA Mediated Biocement Production Using Hard Water and Urea

    In the present study, a potential bacterial strain with maximum urease activity was isolated from urea-rich paddy field soil for biocement production. The bacterial isolate was screened using Christensen selective agar media and named as KLUVAA. This isolate was found to be tolerant up to 10 % urea. 16S rRNA sequencing analysis identified the isolate KLUVAA as Bacillus cereus. Biocement production was carried out using tap water with 431.7 mg L–1 of hardness as a natural source of calcium. Functional groups present in biocement were analysed using FT-IR spectrum. The morphology and elemental composition of the biocement was studied using SEM with EDS mapping and XRD analyses. Thermogravimetric analysis was used to study the thermal stability of the microbial biocement. Further, process parameters were optimized for enhancing the yield of biocement.     Validation of developed method by RP-HPLC for estimation of Prasugrelin human plasma and studying the stability of the drugs in plasma

    This paper is concern with a reverse phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) bio-analytical method development and validation for Prasugrel in human plasma using photo diode array detector (PDA detector). The HPLC separation was carried out in an isocratic mode on an X-Terra C18 column (4.6 x 150 mm; 5 μm) with a mobile phase consisting of potassium dihydrogen phosphate [pH 3.0] and acetonitrile in the ratio of 30:70 v/v at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min. The run time was maintained for 5 mins and the detection was monitored at 210 nm. The percentage recovery was found 99.61-100.06 in human plasma. This reveals that the method is quite accurate. The linearity was found 15-40 μg/mL in human plasma. The inter-day and intra-day precision in plasma was found within the limits. The lower limit of quantification (LLOQ) obtained by the proposed method was 0.05 μg/mL. The percentage relative standard deviation (%RSD) obtained for the drug spiked in plasma for stability studies were less than 2 %

    SH3 interactome conserves general function over specific form

    Src homology 3 (SH3) domains bind peptides to mediate protein–protein interactions that assemble and regulate dynamic biological processes. We surveyed the repertoire of SH3 binding specificity using peptide phage display in a metazoan, the worm Caenorhabditis elegans, and discovered that it structurally mirrors that of the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. We then mapped the worm SH3 interactome using stringent yeast two-hybrid and compared it with the equivalent map for yeast. We found that the worm SH3 interactome resembles the analogous yeast network because it is significantly enriched for proteins with roles in endocytosis. Nevertheless, orthologous SH3 domain-mediated interactions are highly rewired. Our results suggest a model of network evolution where general function of the SH3 domain network is conserved over its specific form
