    Prevalence of vaginitis during pregnancy and its fetomaternal outcome in the rural setup

    Background: Increasing evidence associates abnormalities in vaginal flora during pregnancy with preterm labor and delivery with potential neonatal sequelae due to prematurity and poor perinatal outcome. So the objective of this study is to study the prevalence of different type of vaginal infection during pregnancy and its fetomaternal outcome.Methods: This study was conducted in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and with the help of Dept of Microbiology in Adichunanagiri institute of Medical College (AIMS) BG Nagar, over a period of one year extending from October 2013 to September 2014. This study was conducted on 920 pregnant women, evaluated for vaginitis during pregnancy and studied for the fetomaternal outcome.Results: After vaginal microflora evaluation of the 920 women, revealed that 840 (91.3%) women had normal vaginal flora, 38 (4.13%) of them were diagnosed as candidiasis, and 26 (2.83%) had BV, 10 (1.09%) had Trichomonasis and 6 (0.65%) had mixed infection. From 80 patients with vaginitis, 35 of them had PROM (term and preterm), 22 of them had preterm delivery, 11 of them had anemia, 6 of them had oligohydramions and 10 of them had pueperial sepsis with vaginitis during pregnancy. So the association of vaginitis with fetomaternal outcome was highly significant (p < 0.0001).Conclusions: Vaginal ecosystem study with the detection of pathogens is a key instrument in the prevention of preterm delivery, pPROM, chorioamnionitis, neonatal, puerperal and maternal-fetal infections

    Emergence of multi-drug resistant strains among bacterial isolates in burn wound swabs in a tertiary care centre, Nanded, Maharashtra, India

    Background: Infection is a major cause of morbidity and mortality among burn patients. The worldwide emergence of antimicrobial resistance among a wide variety of burn wound pathogens, particularly nosocomial isolates, limits the available therapeutic options for effective treatment of burn wound infections. The study was conducted in the department of Microbiology, Dr. S.C.G.M.C, Nanded, Maharashtra, India to determine aerobic bacterial isolates from burn wound swabs and describe their antibiogram.Methods: Two wound swabs were taken from 570 patients, cultured aerobically. The isolates were identified by standard microbiological methods and antibiotic sensitivity pattern was determined.Results: Among 570 patients, 434 (76.14%) were female and 136 (23.85%) were male. Out of the total swabs collected, 548 (96.14%) were culture positive and 36 (6.56%) were having 2 isolates. Pseudomonas aeruginosa (34.93%) was the commonest isolate followed by Staphylococcus aureus (22.77%), Klebsiella pneumoniae (13.87%), Escherichia coli (13.01%) and Coagulase negative staphylococcus (11.31%). Incidence of MRSA was 59.39% and ESBL producers were 61.46 %. Gram positive isolates were 100% sensitive to Vancomycin, Linezolid and Gram negative organisms to Imipenem.Conclusions: Routine periodic sampling of burn wounds would facilitate the selection of appropriate empirical therapy and reduce the incidence of multidrug resistant infections among burn patients

    Feature Extraction and Classification of Flaws in Radio Graphical Weld Images Using ANN

    In this paper, a novel approach for the detection and classification of flaws in weld images is presented. Computer based weld image analysis is most significant method. The method has been applied for detecting and discriminating flaws in the weld that may corresponds false alarms or all possible nine types of weld defects (Slag Inclusion, Wormhole, Porosity, Incomplete penetration, Under cuts, Cracks, Lack of fusion, Weaving fault Slag line), after being successfully tested on80 radiographic images obtained from EURECTEST, International scientific Association Brussels, Belgium, and 24 radiographs of ship weld provided by Technic Control Co. (Poland) were used, obtained from Ioannis Valavanis Greece.. The procedure to detect all the types of flaws and feature extraction is implemented by segmentation algorithm which can overcome computer complexity problem. Our problem focuses on the high performance classification by optimization of feature set by various selection algorithms like sequential forward search (SFS), sequential backward search algorithm (SBS) and sequential forward floating search algorithm (SFFS). Features are important for measuring parameters which leads in directional to understand image. We introduced 23 geometric features, and 14 texture features. The Experimental results show that our proposed method gives good performance of radiographic images

    Wear by slurry abrasion occurs during transport of abrasive slurries encountered in industrial and specially mining applications, extruders, and in slurry pumps. Steel piping systems are widely used in mining to convey the mineral, ore and tailing slurries to the processing plant, as well as to recycle the debris medium back to the mining area. Hardfacing by welding is one of the economic methods to improve wear resistance of engineering components. The present work reports slurry abrasion behaviour of hardfaced martensitic stainless steel under a wide range of experimental condition. The slurry abrasion experiments were performed using slurry abrasion test apparatus using silica sand as the abrasive medium. The effect of test parameter such as sliding distance, normal load and slurry concentration of abrasive medium on slurry abrasion behaviors of martensitic stainless steel was investigated. The slurry abrasion volume loss exhibited increasing trend with increasing sliding distance, normal load and slurry concentration, although the magnitude of increase was different in each case. The results of the investigation suggest and slurry concentration had relatively stronger effect as compared to that of normal load.. The morphological studies of the worn surfaces revealed characteristic differences in the wear pattern under different test conditions

    Glycoprotein IIb/IIIa Inhibitors Use and Outcome after Percutaneous Coronary Intervention for Non-ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction

    Aims. We investigate the effect of glycoprotein IIb/IIIa (GP IIb/IIIa) inhibitors on long-term outcomes following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) after non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI). Meta-analyses indicate that these agents are associated with improved short-term outcomes. However, many trials were undertaken before the routine use of P2Y12 inhibitors. Recent studies yield conflicting results and registry data have suggested that GP IIb/IIIa inhibitors may cause more bleeding than what trials indicate. Methods and Results. This retrospective observational study involves 3047 patients receiving dual-antiplatelet therapy who underwent PCI for NSTEMI. Primary outcome was all-cause mortality. Major adverse cardiac events (MACE) were a secondary outcome. Mean follow-up was 4.6 years. Patients treated with GP IIb/IIIa inhibitors were younger with fewer comorbidities. Although the unadjusted Kaplan-Meier analysis suggested that GP IIb/IIIa inhibitor use was associated with improved outcomes, multivariate analysis (including propensity scoring) showed no benefit for either survival (P=0.136) or MACE (P=0.614). GP IIb/IIIa inhibitor use was associated with an increased risk of major bleeding (P=0.021). Conclusion. Although GP IIb/IIIa inhibitor use appeared to improve outcomes after PCI for NSTEMI, patients who received GP IIb/IIIa inhibitors tended to be at lower risk. After multivariate adjustment we observed no improvement in MACE or survival and an increased risk of major bleeding

The shape will provide the bandwidth which is required in various wireless applications like Bluetooth (2.4 GHz-2.484 GHz), RFID (2.4 GHz - 2.5 GHz), and WLAN (3.6 GHz) etc. Coaxial feed technique is used for its simplicity. The performance of the designed antenna is analyzed in terms of Bandwidth, Return loss, Gain, VSWR, Directivity and Radiation Pattern.
