Heavy-quark mass effects in Higgs boson production at the LHC
We study the impact of heavy-quark masses in Higgs boson production through
gluon fusion at the LHC. We extend previous computations of the fully
differential cross section and of the transverse momentum spectrum of the Higgs
boson by taking into account the finite top- and bottom-quark masses up to
O(alpha_S^3). We also discuss the issues arising when the heavy-quark mass is
much smaller than the Higgs mass. Our results are implemented in updated
versions of the HNNLO and HRes numerical programs.Comment: Minor modifications, results unchanged. Discussion on uncertainties

Measured indoor temperatures, thermal comfort and overheating risk: Post-occupancy evaluation of low energy houses in the UK
There is growing concern in Western Europe that higher insulation and air tightness of residential buildings leads to increased overheating risk. This paper discusses temperature monitoring from identical houses in the Southwest of the UK that were built to low energy standards (Code for Sustainable Homes Level 5). The temperature data were analysed using both established static overheating criteria (CIBSE Guide A) and an adaptive thermal comfort standard (BSEN15251). The houses can be considered uncomfortably warm during summer and are at risk of overheating. The study suggests that occupant behaviour plays an important role in reducing or increasing internal temperatures
Production of scalar and pseudo-scalar Higgs bosons to next-to-next-to-leading order at hadron colliders
We consider the production of intermediate-mass CP-even and CP-odd Higgs
bosons in proton-proton and proton-anti-proton collisions. We extend the
recently published results for the complete next-to-next-to-leading order
calculation for a scalar Higgs boson to the pseudo-scalar case and present
details of the calculation that might be useful for similar future
investigations. The result is based on an expansion in the limit of a heavy top
quark mass and a subsequent matching to the expression obtained in the limit of
infinite energy. For a Higgs boson mass of 120 GeV the deviation from the
infinite-top quark mass result is small. For 300 GeV, however, the
next-to-next-to-leading order corrections for a scalar Higgs boson exceed the
effective-theory result by about 9% which increases to 22% in the pseudo-scalar
case. Thus in this mass range the effect on the total cross section amounts to
about 2% and 6%, respectively, which may be relevant in future precision

Finite top quark mass effects in NNLO Higgs boson production at LHC
We present next-to-next-to-leading order corrections to the inclusive
production of the Higgs bosons at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC)
including finite top quark mass effects. Expanding our analytic results for the
partonic cross section around the soft limit we find agreement with a very
recent publication by Harlander and Ozeren \cite{Harlander:2009mq}.Comment: 15 page
Analytic Results for Higgs Production in Bottom Fusion
We evaluate analytically the cross section for Higgs production plus one jet
through bottom quark fusion. By considering the small pT limit we derive
expressions for the resummation coefficients governing the structure of large
logarithms, and compare these expressions with those available in the

Top-mass effects in differential Higgs production through gluon fusion at order \alpha_s^4
Effects from a finite top quark mass on differential distributions in the
Higgs+jet production cross section through gluon fusion are studied at
next-to-leading order in the strong coupling, i.e. . Terms
formally subleading in are calculated, and their influence on the
transverse momentum and rapidity distribution of the Higgs boson are evaluated.
We find that, for the differential K-factor, the heavy-top limit is valid at
the 2-3% level as long as the transverse momentum of the Higgs remains below

Reinforcement learning in populations of spiking neurons
Population coding is widely regarded as a key mechanism for achieving reliable behavioral responses in the face of neuronal variability. But in standard reinforcement learning a flip-side becomes apparent. Learning slows down with increasing population size since the global reinforcement becomes less and less related to the performance of any single neuron. We show that, in contrast, learning speeds up with increasing population size if feedback about the populationresponse modulates synaptic plasticity in addition to global reinforcement. The two feedback signals (reinforcement and population-response signal) can be encoded by ambient neurotransmitter concentrations which vary slowly, yielding a fully online plasticity rule where the learning of a stimulus is interleaved with the processing of the subsequent one. The assumption of a single additional feedback mechanism therefore reconciles biological plausibility with efficient learning
(Il)Legitimisation of the role of the nation state: Understanding of and reactions to Internet censorship in Turkey
This study aims to explore Turkish citizen-consumers' understanding of and reactions to censorship of websites in Turkey by using in-depth interviews and online ethnography. In an environment where sites such as YouTube and others are increasingly being banned, the citizen-consumers' macro-level understanding is that such censorship is part of a wider ideological plan and their micro-level understanding is that their relationship with the wider global network is reduced, in the sense that they have trouble accessing full information on products, services and experiences. The study revealed that citizen-consumers engage in two types of resistance strategies against such domination by the state: using irony as passive resistance, and using the very same technology used by the state to resist its domination
